Training dummies: why are they soft after going down once?

Makes it hard to get a feel for DPS when they change how they react to damage. Is there an upside to this behaviour that I'm just missing?

iirc, after the first beatdown they stand up again but in "helpless" condition. once upon a time was useful, when you had to refresh manually all the buffs in the old amenities system.

they reset when the airship instance is reset, afaik that means after 5 minutes if no one is in it.

Ah, the days when a high level would quickly knock the dummy down to a couple of hit points so a low level could finish it for the bonus instead of spending several minutes beating it down.

I use the Gynosphinx in White Plume Mountain. Quick to get to and at least on EE it's got a decent amount of HP. With the EA aura i can stand toe to toe and just focus on spamming 1 attack till its death and timing it to get a fairly accurate back to back comparison. Even without the aura a hireling can easily keep me alive and does so little damage it doesn't affect my testing. Would help if i knew the starting hitpoints.

In LoTRO the guilds, or kinships as they are called there, can have a DPS test dummy in the kinship house. It is an immortal dummy that tells you what your DPS is after you have been attacking it, first after 1 minute and then after 3 minutes.

I do not understand why we can not have something like this in DDO.

We need that!

Lam Kobolds have been on the wishlist for guild amenities for a while now

Steelstar has said before that the test kobolds were made with very sloppy, inefficient code, since they were just meant to be throwaway temporary test mobs. I think originally they were only meant for dev testing, but they put a few on Lama once and they've stuck around since then...but we wont ever see them on Live because of how much strain they put on servers with how they calculate DPS.

A seconds counter from 1st hit to kill is too much strain on a server? Have you seen what gets pushed through the combat log during raids, let alone solo play?

Come on

Yeah, that does the trick; thanks! Should have thought of that.

It would still be nice if the regular training dummies didn't go helpless after being downed once, though.

Create multiple dummies (a 6x6 grid in Hold would be nice - or, HEY SSG MAKE IT AN AS ONLY upgrade!!) if you really want "a feel." Even then, meh.

As a long time VIP, I think I've more than paid for a cleanup. Kobold's certainly have some acrobatics that we may have been teased with but are now gone.

Yeah, there are workarounds. All I'm saying is that they shouldn't be necessary. The dummies don't serve their intended purpose and never have.

that's what we need, the lotro one (btw, it's a house decoration, you can put it in kinship house sure, but in your own house too, or outside your house and set permissions stuff outside to let it be used by anyone or your guild\friends only.....or all of this if you get multiple ones)

because it is active for a fixed amount of time and it gives feedback in chat about your dps. numbers, like, your dps is 5264. that's why it is superior to any ddo workaround.
