Trying to Create DDO free account with previous LOTRO account

This is what I had to do a couple years ago. It took a couple days, but worked just fine.

IIRC it's not possible now. The games were account linked back in the Turbine days, but they had to change everything going forward when SSG was established. The old accounts could be migrated over, but no new linked accounts could be made.

People have been using the code method above as of at least a couple months ago. It very much works according to the people that have done it.
I am curious if the code I linked is still valid or if the OP had to open a ticket for a newer one.

BTW I just happened to read Cordovan's Account Support FAQ article https://forums.ddo.com/index.php?threads/account-support-faq.48/ , which the article posted just in May (so couple months back) and it says:
"If you’ve never played DDO before but have an account from playing LOTRO, we can set you up with a key to activate your account for DDO. Submit a ticket to request a DDO key. We’ll send you out an email with the code you need to jump into the Forgotten Realms!"

Correct, I did file a ticket to ddo last year or the years before, they will give you a "code" or something, but 1st they need to flag your account to activate LOTRO.
So in this case YES, you need to contact them to activate ddo for your account.
But do note DDO is DDO, LOTRO is LOTRO. So dont expect anything, you will have an absolutely blank account in DDO. None of your LOTRO perks will come over.

No, these are just some little known tricks. Used to be, you bought an X-Pack or something, for whichever game, and you received a product key -- which you could activate on your account page.
Only reason my main LOTRO account is different to my main DDO one is that when the LOTRO transfers from Europe were done, we could not use the same account as we had for our previous DDO ones. But I had been able to make a new secondary DDO account for my LOTRO one, which at the time was a slightly fiddly process.
That all went away when they made the site login, account login, and forum login the same, because you stopped getting product keys the same way.
So they devised this alternate method to get DDO and LOTRO associated with just one SSG account even without an upfront purchase.
