Trying to find reasons to make myself play

I have been playing DDO for years. I took a break of a couple of years after just feeling burnt out and bored, came back this January, loved the dinosaurs in IoD.
Now I'm bored again.

I'm on my 60 something life, probably more, with long periods sat at max level to do things like raid learning PUGs and stuff. Those were the days.
I remember being so exited after a TR to get in, get gear, do korthos for tradition.

Now I have just TRed. I have sat and looked at my character and I just can't find that enthusiasm anymore.

I am a VIP, I buy all the new content, I buy double DDO points, coffers and everything else. And now I am really feeling like I think I am done. The reasons for staying at the moment are friends and I have to admit, the idea that I've just spent too much time and money on this game to stop.
But I'm not sure I even want to play anymore.

Is anyone else feeling this? What brings you back and keeps you playing?

I am so excited for the 64-bit servers so that I have intention to upscale DDO into 4K, without much lag

Interesting topic.
Go play D&D, I mean get immersed in it. Get a good group and play at least twice a week. Play to the point where you'll be wanting to see how DDO is different from PnP.
Try simple yet mundane things, like filing up the monster manual. (this also helps running all optionals as you'll need them for the MM)

UCLA & Stanford both did studies on this subject. Not pointing at you, but people that buy everything tend to exit games sooner rather than later.
tbd...

New raid is really kinda fun.

I always have fun going back and doing old areas I've not tried in years.

Makes new character. With the accelerated exp you can do a new character pretty easily to 5 lives

Farm new sun and moon augs to sell - make bank

You just described me. Last summer I had just dinged 20 on my 2nd Chaosmancer life with friends, and simply couldn't find the motivation to login for 8 months. After prodding from friends I came back about a month ago to get ready for the new raid. Friends have been and always will be the reason for me to play DDO long term.

But now I'm supposed to baby sit this stupid heart
I'm also about there. I have about zero patience with lag anymore. Maxed out my main and started on an alt, lost the motivation to keep TRing my alt. Thinking about taking a break until 64-bit and The Chill of Ravenloft are out. Maybe spend my free time upskilling on AI and kubes...

Anywho, the friends I've made while puging is what keeps me around.

I’m currently on my 3rd or 4th extended “break.” I log in about once every 2 to 3 weeks. I personally know it’s a mixture of issues (I.e. work, personal projects, boredom, etc). Friends keep me inside the gravitational pull of DDO but I’m slowly exiting the games pull.

I've been playing for a very long time as well. Since buying DDO point cards sold in walmart were a thing. :D I've taken a few many year breaks and many much smaller 3 some odd month breaks. I'm now in a season where I basically log in collect my daily/weekly rolls maybe do a quest or two and say hi to people and log. I love the game and will always come back to it for the exact reason of I've invested so much in it and the familiarity.
I think though the attitude of take the 3ish month breaks is healthy so I can touch grass, play other games, you know do stuff other than be an entire degenerate.

If you're looking for higher highs of excitement you might be disappointed. If you're looking for a place to get away from RL and just immerse oneself into a mindless repetitive farming experience dotted with intense moments of character planning and gear tetris, then you're in the right place.

My minions. I play for them.

That and complaining how much certain nonsense such as inquisitive, elf-res, and Beckon Dvinitiny has turned this game into a complete joke.
Well, not a complete joke, as everything you want to do in game would be considerably harder. Beckon is “meh”. It’s hyper situational when it will actually save a raid. Den of Vipers for example, impossible to save from a full party wipe with beckon.

Or, inquis gets nerfed and casters get a buff and you’ll complain about casters… never ending cycle. Say they buffed the hell out of melee (your preferred combat style I believe), you’d still find something to tear your dress over lol. It’s PvE, not PvP.

Simple solution is to make the reaper system have more skulls, like R20.

That solution is so dumb it should be in congress.

EVERYTHING is too powerful. EVEYTHING needs a nerf. Some things need a slight nerf, some need to be nuked from orbit. Balancing things upwards to where the current level of broken which is inquisitive is absolute madness.

And it's a loin cloth, not a dress. Some of you mammals just don't have any culture.

I know the feeling. I started in June of 06 but I bet Ive spent more time on a break then actually playing over 19 yrs. I’ll log in and move some stuff around and log off because the desire isn’t there. I’ll TR trying to spark the desire to play. Make it to lvl 6ish and drop out.
I too feel like Ive spent too much time and money to abandon the game so I take really long breaks instead.

Predominantly my guild, I’ve worked hard to grow it. It’s the mini-community within where I encourage guildies to quest with one another if there isn’t an LFM up; I help them with questions, quest with guild new players to teach mechanics. There are some weeks, that I don’t emerge from within guild only groups/raids.

Questing with my TR partner, Lurea. When new content comes out, we either go out ourselves to hit it up on high reaper, and we do a lot of things that we did when we didn’t have guild or r/l committments as it were, when it was just us (over a decade ago). So we’ll pause half way through a quest, chill, camp out with food.

I enjoy helping the community both on the server (Orien for now, and whatever 64 bit that is the future), as well as the community overall, so all of the players are informed. This makes it not so much as a solo-just them experience, but helps bring them more into the fold of all the players.

My main is on her 208th life, no. 2 is on 133rd. I usually park the no.3 at 5 to help new players, but I wanted to play with dragonlord and see what the hype was about. Both 1 & 2 are parked at cap, they’ll only move when dhampir comes out. Main will get the re-acquire the triple racial completionist first, and back to cap, then it’ll be #2.

I did this during my current life, at least to start with. I forgot how fun some of the quests that I’ve skipped in favor of efficiency are. Not drinking an XP pot from the start so my eyes aren’t constantly on the buff bar is oddly relaxing. I know it isn’t as time efficient at all, but remembering my way through e.g. the Keeper’s Sanctuary* etc made it not feel inefficient.

*The note with “May you fare well in the storm to come” might be the best small detail in the game.

Maybe try a different enviroment and get back to what made you love the game in the first place.

Why not try playing in a permadeath guild on a first life toon, truly washed up on the shore with nothing. You are playing with people who all love to play like this and in the most challenging permadeath that exists across the servers to date. No hirelings, no piles of ship buffs, no house p buffs, no twinked out gear, no loot running, no purchasing of endless supplies of consumable and by challenging we mean running at levels way harder tham standard hardcore is run. Quests are only run on elite or higher and if you are in a group at a certain level you must then run quests that are of the same minimum level (for example a group of level 3 toons must run saltmarsh on elite at level 3).

Bring life back to your gaming experience and come try out EXTREME. Look for EXTREME MV Permadeath, we are on argonessen, search for EXTREME in the guilds on the who list. Otherwise send me a PM and we can arrange a time to meet you and get you set up into the guild.

IMO if you are playing a game for any reason other than because you just enjoy playing it then it is time you move on to something different.
It is a perfectly normal feeling in all aspects of life, but in gaming we get the luxury of minimal consequences. Not abiding by it will only leave you worse off.

I simply don’t agree. We are level 34, on a comp toon you have 83 destiny points and 100 enhancement points, with an assumed reaper capped toon of 156 points. No quest should be a challenge if you’re on a properly built toon. Whether it be melee, ranged, or caster.

So I guess either make harder content or nerf everyone? To where we HAVE to group for R10? There is no correct answer.
