U65 - Swashbuckling Rogue

Hello everyone,

I've had a few people ask me about my build so I figured I would share it here. I made this build to be self sustainable in R10s and raids, while also having fairly decent damage (x5 multiplier, x7 on 19-20).

The nice thing about this build is the amount of CC you have. Guard Breaking is the biggest thing, considering how much you will be critting with a 15-20 crit threat range. You will also have paralyze from the hand axe, knock down from chain attacks and knock down from Adrenaline.

If you want to see how the build performs in an R10 setting, you're welcome to check out the video below:

Thank you for the video and detailed breakdown.

I didnt add up the melee power or doublestrike, but it looked mighty!

I think I have most of the gear, sans shield and a few augments. What are the critical items? Guardbreaking, armor piercing, that kinda stuff?

Thanks for the item details!

Melee power was sitting at 286 in reaper, a bit low compared to some builds. Could push over 300, but I lacked mythic/reaper bonuses and 1 rare filigree. +50 from Prowess swapping.

Doublestrike was sitting at 97%. 102% when Cannith Combat Infusion procs.

After playing an Offhand Versatility version of the build (great for raids), I really missed the survivability that Guard Breaking provided in R10s. So I'd say the shield is the most critical item in the build for me personally.

As nice as Raven's Eye set is, it's not going to be a huge loss if you don't have it right now. Having the Legendary Devil's Infernal Dance and the 5 piece Legendary Forbidden Knowledge sets are more important, since they will cover most of the bonuses you need for the build to function.

Do you think dragon lord would be a viable alternative to barb? The roar and tactics dcs bonuses seem real nice. And you probably wouldn’t lose much survivability with the offhand versatility alternative. Obviously it’s not out yet, but it’d be interesting to hear a super player’s thoughts

It's definitely something that I have considered. On paper is seems like it would synergize very well with my current build. It would free up points in Vistani and all of the points in Harper that could be spent elsewhere. There's a lot of potential, though I probably won't do any theory crafting until the archetype has been finalized.

Can this be done on scoundrel Iconic race?

Maybe 11 fvs/clr - 6 brb - 3 brd and cha as main stat? Or stick with str?

Thanks
If you're doing it for a past life it would work fine, but would fall short at endgame due to the lack of AoE (chains) and damage via SA that the rogue levels provide. Personally, I would choose STR as the main stat and have CHA as secondary for a trance. STR has a lot more stacking bonuses (rage, etc.) and melee based filigree sets are more suited for those trying to maximize STR or DEX while also netting the benefit of the filigree sets (MP, doublestrike, fort bypass). Hope this info helps. :)

If you switch away from SDK, you lose the racial chain attacks which are great AoE damage for this sort of SWF build. So the immediate question is: what do you replace them with? Cleaves and/or Whirlwind Attack? Adds a feat tax to a feat-starved build; you can see OP's build doesn't take WWA until level 30. Supreme Cleave and En Pointe? Free from Swashbuckler and Frenzied Berserker trees so any bardbarian gets them.

Dragon Lord is about to add an alternative to barbarian since either class can get +2 crit multiplier from its Tier-5s. Switching to fighter will give some bonus feats to help out if you want WWA sooner, as well as the STR Battle Trance if you decide to combine with Strength-domain cleric. But now you're talking about a build which is less focused on DPS and maybe more focused on self-sufficiency, e.g., bard 3 / Dragon Lord 6 / cleric 11 (Heal spell).

It helped. I think I'll stick with STR, as also my items are mostly geared toward str builds.

So if I just copy your build on a scoundrel.. with rogue and all is it going to be better? I do like the SA and opportunist and stuff, but not sure if having self heal / trance would be nicer..

Also, what do you have in terms of CC? Do you use dire charge?

More self healing is always nice, but I self healed just fine using rage charges via Unquenchable Rage. I believe I had 13 rage charges to work with for healing + Primal Scream applying the same heal on a 30 second CD.

My main source of CC was guard breaking but also had chains knock down, adrenaline knock down, and paralyze from the hand-axe proc (~5% chance on hit). I did mess around with Dire Charge, but it wasn't very reliable. The tactical DC's were there, but the targeting was very wonky.

Copying the build as a scoundrel will be fine for single target DPS, but unless you change up the enhancements a bit to include Supreme Cleave, your AoE will be severely lacking and even then it likely won't perform the same.

I mostly play casters but I'm looking to switch when the latest update goes live. This build is really close to what I was thinking, thanks for posting!

Is there a reason you don't take shield mastery specialty at 31 instead of the two feats? Maybe the stacking combat style bonus or something else?

I think for the DL lord version this is what I came up with.

Progression:
1-Rogue
2 thru 4-Bard
5 thru 9 - Dragonlord
11 thru 20 - Rogue

I debated DL5 or DL6 I went Rogue 12 to take the epic sneak attack feat.

Enhancements (98)
Dragonlord 40
Racial 18
Assassin 23
Swashbuckler 14
Thief Acrobat 3

Not certain about the cost of T5 Dragonlord, assuming 10 points for all of them.

Feats: (7 +2 FB +1 RB + 1DL Aura)
1-SWF
3-Dodge
5-(DL Aura) Thraxata's Instinct

If you're doing it for a past life it would work fine, but would fall short at endgame due to the lack of AoE (chains) and damage via SA that the rogue levels provide. Personally, I would choose STR as the main stat and have CHA as secondary for a trance. STR has a lot more stacking bonuses (rage, etc.) and melee based filigree sets are more suited for those trying to maximize STR or DEX while also netting the benefit of the filigree sets (MP, doublestrike, fort bypass). Hope this info helps. :)
I found the annoying thing was having to dismiss rage whenever I needed to trap. Not a problem for raids, but questing it's a pita.

Is there a reason you don't take shield mastery specialty at 31 instead of the two feats? Maybe the stacking combat style bonus or something else?

This is just one of many variations that I've tested when theory crafting the build. I spent 3-4 months play testing different splits with various feat choices.

Since I wasn't 12 rogue I couldn't make use of Improved Sneak Attack as a feat option and I didn't really need the additional doublestrike from Shield Mastery Specialty because I was already close to hard-capping doublestrike (over-capped with Cannith Combat Infusion). I chose to take 6 Barb for the secondary imbue to give the build more options when dealing with enemies that are immune to poison. The ideal split would be 12/5/3, taking Improved Sneak Attack and Shield Mastery Specialty if you're wanting to min-max your damage output.

There are numerous ways this can be built, even more so now with DL. Hope you have fun with your DL version. :)

I didn't care much for dismissing rage to trap either (unless it was absolutely necessary), so I would just say "I'm not that kind of rogue", and would usually get a free pass. ?

Awesome thank you for posting the build and the extra info!

Maybe I missed something but why didn't you use Resonant Arms (Sonic Imbue) instead?

If you read my posts you have already lost
i remember doing this build back in ye olden days when SDK had just been revamped. while I never got credit for "making" the build (as I didn't share it), I do like to see how far its come from those days when I was still figuring out how to do the endgame. glad to see this great build carrying over to a better player than me. cant wait to see what happens with dragonlord and this build

I have to admit, after a certain point (months of staring at multiple build files) I started to get tunnel vision when trying to optimize the build. This would be better than Frenzy if you can squeeze in a decent amount of sonic spell power (assuming it scales off 100% spell power) which would free up the 1 level of Barbarian to do the 12/5/3 split for Improved Sneak Attack in epics. This is my first real attempt at a multi-class melee build, so there is definitely room for improvement. Thanks for the feedback. :)
