Performance Update Preview

We've made some adjustments to improve game performance with this preview. Like many of our performance changes, these changes touch deep inner workings of the game. Try a couple existing DDO dungeons that you know quite well, and if you experience any unusual behavior during your dungeon gameplay, let us know here.

Other changes

  • Fixed some display issues with the Black Rose supporter pack helm cosmetic for Dragonborn and Elves.
  • Fixed an issue where part of the special effects on the Echoes of the Black Rose supporter pack mace weren't displaying.
  • Den of Viper's Raid:
    • The Teleport Blocker effect Domain of Dread will now remove itself on players who exit the quest by recall or lost connection.
    • Fix the rather unfortunate pit located against the north wall outside the temple.
    • There is now an exit waypoint at the beginning.
    • The shadow demons no longer have empty titles.
  • Thieves tools in the DDO Store should now be visible for classes other than rogue.
  • VFX Cosmetics such as wings, eyes will no longer appear when in rat form.
  • Frogo's hat will no longer float over him if he's in ratform.
  • Quest: Kind of Big Deal - Adjusted Height of 2nd Trap Box.
  • Endless Fusillade is now spelled correctly in all places it is referenced. Two Ls, not one!
  • In the quest 'The Evil We Know', the portal leading into the Chamber of the Shadow now properly teleports you into the Chamber of the Shadow.
  • Fixed a typo in the dialog of the Year of the Dragon claim NPC.
  • Tweak to fire beetles to not use fireball until epic unless they are oversized.
  • Fixed a graphical issue in the Character creation flow with some buttons being partially cut off.
  • Quest Best Laid Plans - Several changes have been made to the quest for performance and in response to feedback:
    • Reduced Number of Breakables, and reduced Required number of breakables, for performance reasons
    • Reduced Number of Tacticians in several waves
    • Slowed Speed of Constructs
    • Reduced Number of Monsters in certain wave encounters.
  • It will no longer be possible to use XP stones on the Heart of Wind (the airship you start on as a new character). This is to prevent confusion with using xp stones before you speak with the NPC during veteran status. The stones will operate normally once you leave the Heart of Wind.

Elemental victory cosmetic, inquis dual shooter, butterflies via curse, and weapon cosmetic (the new Black Rose supporter pack mace in this case) still all show effects in rat form.

Would be nice for Threats, Old and New to get similar treatment - the lag in there is absolutely horrid at times (most times).

And, as usual, the Quest Giver told to buy the Adventure Pack to access those quests, but there is nothing to buy...
("Key master" NPC gives access to MD only, no new quests.)

So, how many times we were in this situation already ?! Like 4 times per year for the last 10-something years ? ~40 in total ?
Would we see a day the Devs finally would learn something from the past mistakes, I wonder ? 🙄 Honestly... 😔

I'm not sure why there's such a focus on the symptoms instead of the sickness? It's recently introduced (evidence strongly suggests due to AI pathfinding) issues that cause the lag when breaking any box or jumping onto a ledge, so shouldn't that be the focus instead of progressively going through the game and removing things [that make quests interesting]?

While, in general, I agree, at the same time, I can't say that destroying tons of breakableas is an interesting thing to do. (Well, not unless you are playing "DYSMANTLE" 😆 That whole game is about progressively breaking stuff.)

Some quests in Saltmarsh have whole fields of breakables laying around. It almost like the Devs don't know what decoration to put in there so they've opted to fill the space with vases and crates. 😅

I suppose we should be happy that one of the new quest features a new "type" of breakable.

You spend your time on this, typoes, one hat on on type of race so it looks pretty, and "fix"something like 5 year old Best Laid Plans thats just fine "because of feedback" (whose, after 5 years)?

Could you prioritize on the most horrible bugs that affect the game right now (typos dont affect the play experience imo) ?

From my recent play-experience didn't play my dragonlord, because you broke it, so tried my luck with crossbows. If you talk about waves try hit spawning spiders, scorpions with it, and my favorite, bats, with the usual lag (you could argue those make the lag occrr so remove all em from the game, or , well , just try to get the 64bit server to handle the game)

Since there is a new update in testing, does this mean that what is still broken in Monk/DD will stay broken for the next decade or more?

Tyg :)

Also while you're under the hood in Sharn can you add a cut scene skip to Just Business? Really like the tweak to Technicians though, tac det is cheese when you get multiple casters spamming it.

just ran BLP and i have to say its greatly improved! some notes
  • the amount of monsters was nearly HALVED
  • new breakable totals
  1. mischief: 76
  2. vandal: 92
  3. ransack: 114
  • quest feels much less sloggy
  • less tac det spam is much appreciated
  • i was not able to get conquest. i only killed 74 monsters and i killed darn near everything
devs, thank you for these changes. all thats needed is to reduce conquest to ~70 so the bonus is still achievable. thank you!

Thanks for fixing the typos, but I still see no mention of fixing the broken Magic Fang spell for level 34 characters, the inability to use CC crafting beyond level 32, the "normal white panther" visual skin bug for the Underdark Warrior's Panther, the intermittent lack of sound device on client startup, the requirement to change my windowed resolution every time I log in, etc.

Can we please get some of these gameplay-impacting and commonly occurring annoyances addressed?

There is something off about Drossheart and Igan
A 3 hour guest pass per quest could be a bold move Cotton.

Still no fix to shifter's magic fang, etc. 🤬

At the rate I'd be quite happy if that was the only thing in this completely underwhelming release. Or any other TBH. 😞
