Help my blue bar brain understand handwraps, pretty please?
If that weapon have 100% off hand strike chance by default, why do you take the whole two weapon fight feats? Just for the extra hp on heroic durability?
it doesnt have 100% off hand strike…the offhand attack uses 100% of doublestrike vs. base 50% for 2wf. They also get 100% of ability mod to hit and dmg vs default 50% for offhand.

The question posed earlier about arcane warrior I agree that the main benefit is melee power, i believe procs like dripping/etc. benfit from spell power so there is should be a small benfit there…now I just need to figure out a way to get stacks on my 14/5/1 SfF/DL/Mk build.

The Monk class embodies the fantasy of a martial artist, a master of unarmed combat and physical discipline. It draws inspiration from Shaolin kung fu and other Eastern martial art traditions with a focus on meditation and self-mastery.

With Update 72, the Monk received an overhaul opening up new build options. Gone are the days of relying on Falconry and Vistani Knife Fighter. Henshin Mystic is now a Monk powerhouse compared to Falconry, and Ninja Spy provides access to Haste Boost that VKF once did.

Approach and Philosophy:

The build goal is twofold: Maximize damage and crowd control effectiveness, while maintaining sufficient defense to remain alive. This guide illustrates the art of the possible at level-cap in reaper difficulty after maximum investment in past lives and raid gear. You can still use this guide as a framework if you have few past lives or don’t have the gear.

The guide goes beyond listing starting attributes, feats and enhancements. It aims to be the definitive handwraps reference. You'll find insight about:

* Power Attack vs. Precision
* Is the Patience feat worth it
* Strength vs. Dexterity vs. Wisdom variants
* Which active attacks are worth it
* Selecting epic destinies based on your goals
* Three different gearset options
* Which stances should I use

It includes a breakdown by source of all important mechanics.

I hope you find this useful.

Hey! You have any suggestions for the build if I cant get those raid set augment things? Anything that would help there? I would likely go with the dread set since I have or can easily get the gear I need for that.

I've provided three different gearsets. If you dont have the set augments, then use the set that most closely matches the resources you have. Work towards the aug sets you want.

I don't solo. I prefer to play with friends. Like I mentioned in the guide, you need a way to heal if you're gonna solo. What you chose with Primal Scream is one way to do it. If I was gonna solo raids, then I'd likely build it like Jorye did in the LH VoD solo he posted.

Arcane Warrior is answered earlier in the thread, and a video of it in action. It procs from Cauldron.

What do you suggest as Sophie's Choice to get Otto's Irresistible? You have to sacrifice something for it.

Hi. Thanks for the comprehensive guide!

Do you have more information on Epic destinies of Jorye? I cant find information on the video or his monk build.
What do you think would be best for a First Lifer with an aim to solo R5-R6?

I'm thinking:
GMOF
Dreadnought
Unyielding Sentinel (for renewal)
Epic strike either from GMOF or Dreadnought.

Ying, I just hit lvl 20 now with this build and really enjoying it. I wanted an Iconic life so doing it as a Tabaxi Trailblazer. The speed of the Tabaxi really fits the build well. I do have about 150 Pls and 138 rps so while I don't have op gear yet, I am doing pretty well. I am still learning what the best attacks and combos are but its very fun, when the lag permits me to play at full speed.

Question about DPS. I have 81 Destiny points. I want to fit in Unquenchable Rage on my build, so I have to choose between getting Primal Force tier 3 on Fury OR core 4 on Shadowdancer. I don't have points for Bring Darkness as it requires 2 points. What would be more DPS? Getting the benefits of the core 4 (5MP/1SA dice) or the (+4attack/2% more damage) from primal force? OR maybe having 2% less DS from Wider Weapons and fitting in Bring Darkness from Shadowdancer? 😅

the sneak die and melee power are almost certainly better than 2% base dmg.
and you should always aim for 100% dstrike.

Just leveled my main back to 15 on this build mostly solo. Some thoughts from a long time monk fan who rolled his main as a monk in 2008.

TLDR: Ying is correct.

The two biggest differences of this build vs the classic fist monk of old:
  • Taking Stunning Fist fairly late.
  • Going Dark Path.
  • Take Whirlwind early (which tbf was already an accepted change from the classical build).
So on both of these, the new conventional wisdom seems better. The main reason is stuff just dies so fast, there's no time or need to CC anything leveling on R1. You're almost limited more by run speed. I've never run a monk life without stunning fist and FoL healer, but on a toon with any PLs, you just don't usually take enough damage to worry about needing a lot of healing. A hire parked at the quest entrance will be more than enough to get you through everything.

I could possibly see an argument for taking light fist while leveling and switching to dark later. The CC from Dark just isn't needed in heroics.

Ive been running this build for the past month or so, and it is a machine. Still missing the Armor, so Im running with the other Outfit from MD. Im wondering if there is a way to work in Ravens Sight from GoMF and the Gloves. The problem is, as always, gear tetris. If I lose the Mind Flayer Trinket, Id have to swith Goggles to Meditative Mind. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've got almost all the bits for the 3pc dread set at the moment. Only thing I am missing is the visions of the beyond augment set. Any thoughts on what I can slot in it's place? I feel like it will work just fine with a little less wisdom but want to add some useful augments in its place.

Tough shields augment set and swap solar gem (goggles) to wisdom
