u74 - Dhampir Race Full Review + 3 1-20 leveling builds

hello hello, fine builders and players. today i shall be giving my honest review of the new race, Dhampir (NOT the iconic. that comes later). I hope this guide will convince you (or not) to play/buy this new race. NOTE: everything said here is my opinion, and i am not endorsed by anyone to make these claims. with that said, lets go straight into the review.
Overview
Dhampir has many unique qualities compared to other races. the bite ability grants infinite charge healing without any points in the tree. the undead form gives many cool immunities and synergies with other classes. rush of bats gives a nice movement boosts, and fearsome countenance is a powerful single target stun. this is just my quick analysis of the race and its main features
Cosmetics
for me, one of the most important features of a new race is its cosmetics. Dhampir, luckily, does not disappoint. featuring many hair, ear, eye, eye shape, and facial detail styles, the race has a plethora of customization. the first 10 hair styles even allow for duo chromatic hair, my personal favorite part of eladrins customization. However, the best part of the race has to be the glow shape 10. glow shape 10 transforms this race from a pretty cool, elf looking thing to a being of great power and importance, and im surprised such a cool cosmetic is locked behind 1 race's 1 eye choice. i will easily give Dhampir an 8/10 for cosmetics because of the vast array of choices as well as glow shape 10
Pros
  • racial infinite charge heal at level 1 (that actually heals a decent amount up to r1)
  • str race and past life (hell yeah)
  • a ton of SA dice and SA to hit in the cores, 2 stats essential for endgame damage
  • a ton of negative amp to massively boost your undead form healing
  • +3 to all ability scores with full uptime if you keep using the bite (and you will if you play melee)
  • undead form with the following notable immunities (as well as +2 int wis cha for mainstat and the on hit heal)
    • burning blood
    • all fatigue/exhaustion
    • all enchantment spells
    • natural AND magical diseases AND poisons
    • stun
    • 100% extra fortification
    • paralysis
    • death effects (that dont effect undead like sunburst)
    • ability drain/damage
    • negative levels
    • heal from negative energy
  • rush of bats gives a usable charge for better mobilty on low movement speed characters (will explain below)
  • fearsome countenance gives a high DC single target stun that works on everything and has a fast cast speed (see below)
  • lots of stun and enchantment DC bonuses
  • instakill on the bite (see below)
  • powerful dot on the rush of bats (see below)
Cons
  • aside from rush of bats, no other movement speed
  • some of the abilities are bugged (at least right now) in ways that make them much worse
  • not a lot of stats a pure dps character would want (SA dice and mainstat are the main ones)
  • hard time spending points on good stuff for most casters
  • 11 racial points just to get your bite to heal negative feels like a tax more than an ability you want to take. this should be baked in for free
  • missing spot in the t5 makes me very sad
  • 19 racial points are ideal for getting the most out of this race (though not as needed as eladrin)
  • the healing from both vampire form and the bite become much worse the higher skulls go
Bugs (that affect gameplay)
  • draining bite only applies 1 neg level all the time
  • embrace death toggles off on logout
  • rush of bats can be used without a target
  • ascended bite has the wrong DC of 10+ stat (meaning it stops landing past level 10)
  • biting swarm does about 30% less damage than 1d12 per level at 200% melee power
  • the bite instakill does not work on targets cowered by dragons roar from dragonlord
Recommended Builds/Classes
  • EK wizard
  • 1-20 sorc caster so you can heal
  • melee rogue so you can heal
  • melee warlock so you can heal
  • melee dark apostate
  • caster alch
  • DC casters (assuming you dont play the iconic
  • any kind of fighter or dragonlord
Closing Words
Dhampir as a race has an unique place in the meta. Being the only race with powerful healing (not mediocre) means that many classes, such as sorc and rogue, become playable for leveling due to those classes normal inability to heal. The cheap undead form with all the crazy immunities will make this race a prime choice for hardcore or low life/new player builds. When the bugs get fixed, the instakill will be useful in taking out dangerous champs in high reaper. Fearsome countenance will always be useful due to it affecting all enemies (and some other stuff...). rush of bats gives a decent movement speed option for low speed classes (sorc, wizard, etc). Overall, I think that Dhampir is a fantastic race with many advantages and cool, unique abilities. is it the best race? no, thats eladrin. I think with everything Dhampir has going for it, Dhampir will remain a staple in the meta for some builds in the years to come.

alright lets be real here. dragonlord is the best thing in the game period end of discussion. leveling, endgame, reapers, raids, its not even close. what we are interested in is leveling, however. i present to you the 12 monk 6 edgelord 2 rogue. you thought leveling a caster was easy, well this is a god tier leveling build for anyone who wants to edgelord some mobs while still zooming at mach 15. since this is a leveling build, it will be slightly less in depth than my usual builds. NOTE: this build only goes to 20 as its for dhampir racials
Pros
  • you will be going so fast your piss poor party members cant keep up
  • it uses the best weapon type in the game for leveling
  • basically unkillable due to all the healing and immunities
  • low past life friendly (my build has all my lives, but i will make note of what to cut for less RAP)
  • lots of tumble charges
  • zoom zoom zoom
  • hilariously high tactics DCs
Cons
  • is not a caster :(
  • requires specific quarterstaves to level (but thats just any staff build)
  • is probably complete dogwater at endgame
  • some feats wasted on toughness since you get a comical amount of feats
  • not good for teamplay. no buffs, only 1 debuff, outruns them all, no healing for anyone else, sucks at getting healed with positive
Build Notes
  • for leveling, use chieftons spear at 4 and use elemental bloom at 7 till cap. yeah, bloom really is that good...
  • if missing some/all racial points, cut points out of henshin until you have at least the undead form in dhampir and deathly bite (11 points in racial tree)
  • the harper agent points are because i have a tome and no other reason. if you dont have these tomes, just cut these points
  • requires a +1 dex tome to take precision at level 3 as well as dodge and mobility
  • tree leveling order: start with 8 points in TA for quick strike and acrobatics. get 11 points in DL for imbue, then take 8 points assassin for the imbue dice. Now reset TA, take HM staff attack speed and then go up shintao for quick strike. go all the way up DL for t5. get 3rd core of HM and all the stuff before it. take jade strike and hand of harm in shintao. rest of points go in HM
  • the skill points are whatever. i just used auto spend feature cuz im lazy. tumble and umd are most important, thats all ill say

Dark Apostate Dragonlord
first build too fast for you? or not enough healing? well this build speed for even more healing, thanks to dark apostates harm spell. the harm spell is the undead equivalent of heal, one of the best heals for both leveling and endgame. this build also uses VKF and daggers for EZ leveling without thf
Pros
  • lots of defense from WP/VKF
    uses daggers, WP, and VKF for insane amounts of to hit
  • doesnt need many past lives
  • great healing, both in and out of combat
  • cleric buffs
  • easy to acquire weapons (see below)
Cons
  • isnt the fastest
  • rapid slash, while good, is not as much aoe as thf
  • healing is mediocre until harm is gotten due to the inflict spells having massively reduced healing for whatever reason
Notes
  • weapons to use while leveling: sky pirates dagger until level 9 when you get improved crit, then swap to nightforge stileto till 20. if going to epics, i recommend drow dagger of the weapon master
  • enhancement order: start with DL imbue. then, put all the rest of the points until you get the 20 mp in VKF t4. then, go up DL to t5. take the core 12 and 5% DS in VKF at 12. rest of points into WP
  • if missing racial points, cut points from WP so you can get at least deathly bite and the undead form in dhampir

yeah i know. so original. i will barely talk about this one as i will link another very good guide for how to play it (very similar build). the main appeal for dhampir alch is you can heal yourself with the inflict vials which you are already using for damage until about level 12, making healing very easy.

The rush of bats being used without a target is intended, they changed that after feedback in lammania, unless you mean it still needs a target and is therefore bugged?

Monks still have their healing. The bite is new but not shiny, its not very good.

works entirely differently because healing curse functions as healing given by the affected enemy (thus not subject to reaper reduction.), shintao monks still have it in tier 3 and now you can spam the healing finisher with no ki cost and no need to build up, so now monk healing is stronger and spammier than it ever was before the changes.
Honestly much better than the bite healing because bite healing is subject to reaper penalties and limited to combat.

Think I'm gonna wait until the server change to do these lives, I wanna see some of the endgame play and ETR a few times before I knock these lives out. Was thinking about rouge or DL. Thanks for this, it will give me a cool baseline of what I might run. Gonna save the iconics to knock out the monk archtype.

nice write up BUT... people post builds with a ton of PL's that in no way help players that don't live on that hamster wheel.
I'll take my EK build with 5 PL's and make it work. (I always do)
