Hi forums ,
wanted to share this fun melee build i've been running for the past few months , its sort of a sequel to my first post ever https://forums.ddo.com/index.php?threads/dragon-lord-staff-version.10638/ , but this time im not using a staff!
disclaimer - not meta , still strong high-control, high-helpless-damage endgame melee for R10 questing
TL;DR video in the first comment

The objective of this build is to create a fun, high-impact melee that excels in R10 questing, consistently lands no-fail CC, and delivers extremely high damage vs helpless targets. This results in one of the strongest pack-clearing melee playstyles currently possible, while still offering strong party utility through the Dragon Lord auras. The build is fast, aggressive, and incredibly efficient for farming mid–high Reaper content.

Race

Eladrin
Chosen primarily to work toward an Eladrin racial past life, but the race fits the build very naturally:
  • Large bonuses to hit chance and Doublestrike
  • Access to Eladrin Dodge Dash, enabling windows of 85%+ Dodge on-demand
Alternative:
  • Half-Orc — for more STR, Strikethrough, and Helpless Damage, if racial life isn’t a concern.
  • Shadar-kai -- for obvious reason its a great choise , requires a lesser heart of wood to function.

Class Split

16 Dragon Lord / 4 Monk
This split is designed to maximize helpless damage, Self ability to CC, and dps:
  • 16 Dragon Lord
    • Grants the tactics bonuses, auras, and Strength trance
    • Provides Dragons roar , and reduced CD on trip ( will explain later )
    • Many many feats , you can do whatever!
  • 4 Monk
    • Grants Ninja Spy T4 (No Mercy) — core to helpless damage
    • Fire stance! (grandmaster or just master its your decisiom)
    • Allows the character to remain centered while using a Sun Blade (Finality)
    • Some movement speed

Stats

18 STR — main stat for hit & damage
14 DEX — allows the Spring Attack line + Precision
18 CON — necessary for survivability, especially while wearing outfits
Remaining points untouched.

Feats & Order

1: Single Weapon Fighting + Tactics Aura
2: Dodge
3: Mobility
4: Weapon Focus: Pierce
6: Improved SWF + Weapon Specialization: Pierce
8: Damage Aura
9: Improved Critical: Pierce
10: Offhand Versatility
12: Greater SWF + Tactical Master
13 (Monk): Precision
14 (Monk): Spring Attack
15 (Monk): Adept of Forms + Dark Path
18: Master of Forms + Tactical Combatant
20: Melee Power Aura
21: Overwhelming Critical
22: Perfect SWF
24: Tactical Supremacy
25: Crush Weakness
27: Patience
28: Doublestrike
30: Greater Weapon Specialization pierce + Scion of Arborea
31: Two-Handed Specialization
33: Epic Damage Reduction
34: Legendary Toughness

Feat rationale:
Finality is a Sun Blade, making it a shortsword that can strikethrough. This defines the build: SWF for speed, strikethrough for clearing, Dark gift for range, THF Specialty for more strikethrough , and Crush Weakness for the sweet sweet dmg vs helpless. all of the weapon focus / spec feats are for dps , if you feel too squishy take toughness instead.
Whirlwind Attack is optional but unnecessary — AoE is already excellent.

Enhancements

Build targets maximum helpless damage.
Dragon Lord — 35 AP
best T5 for helpless dmg : makes roar helpless instead of daze + short CD for trip.

Falconry — 24 AP
  • Tier 4 No Mercy
  • Fort bypass via bird strikes (important in new content)
  • Qual HP , sprint boost

Ninja Spy — 23 AP
  • Tier 4 No Mercy again (stacking helpless damage)
  • Dodge cap increases
  • Centered synergy for Shortsword
  • Threat reduction

Epic Destinies

key features - grabbing improved trip from fury along with T5 dreadnaught grants us another aoe (sunblade) CC that makes monsters helpless on a 7 sec cd .
grandmaster is nice if you want to max stun dcs and save a feat on deflect arrows. shadowdancer is a great alternative . Since we're using a sunblade we can use boulder's might .

Gear

Disclaimer: This is not fully min-maxed — it uses strong mythic/reaper/curses I already owned. Its an okay template.

Helmet: Dino Bone Helm — Seeker, Stunning, Dodge Bypass, Dread Stalker
Goggles: Legendary Glasses of the Meditative Mind — Solar STR, Legendary Bulwark
Necklace: Legendary Pendant of Crippling Strikes — Lunar Wpn Damage, Bold Tactician
Cloak: Legendary Dread Stalker Cloak
Armor: Dino Bone Outfit — Prof DS / Prof SA / Trip / Relentless Fury, Dread Stalker
Bracers: Legendary Bodysnatcher’s Bracers — CON, Insightful CON, Lunar MP, Deception, Bulwark
Gloves: Gauntlets of the Stormreaver — Slotted Shatter
Belt: Legendary Baron’s Bandolier — STR / Quality STR / Lunar PRR / Bulwark
Boots: Footfalls of the Dracolich — Insightful & Festive STR, Bold Tactician, Lunar STR
Ring 1: Tumbleweed — Mind & Matter
Ring 2: Omniscience — Mind & Matter
Weapon:
Finality — Fall of the Sun

  • Sun Blade → counts as shortsword but strikethroughs
  • Centered with it
  • Slay Living + Fear Eater proc constantly
  • Incredible with the extra range Dark gift , your aoe strikes cover such huge area.

Filigrees

  • 2× Sucker Punch / One Against Many (raid rare sets)
  • 4× Shattered Device
  • 4× Dreadbringer
  • 2× Treachery
  • 3× Next Fall

Swap: 5-piece Prowess on a swap weapon.

Pros

  • No-fail CC up to top-end difficulty ( improved trip sitting at 143 , dragons roar at 147)
  • 175% Damage vs Helpless on eladrin (195% on horc) . lets say you strike with a boulders might (+50% dmg) and that is equivalent to adrenaline (+225% dmg)
  • Dragon Lord auras benefit the whole party (MP, dmg , tactics)
  • Very strong for gear farming on mid reapers due to great clearing abilites and speed.

Cons

  • relativly squishy -> you have to be aware in combat, use eladrin dodge clicky and spell absorb when needed.
  • mid red name dps -> can't solo R10s at ease and will have less value in a raid . (FOM is the exception , can be great vrox beater ~ better if TWF)
  • finality is a raid item for some thats a con , while leveling i used daggers and vkf instead of falconry .

Personal Notes

This build is fun, unique, and extremely efficient without requiring perfect gear.
Even without completionist bonuses, it reaches excellent DCs and tremendous helpless damage (1.8k fronts and ~20k crits on R10 helpless targets).
Fortification bypass is critical: use the bird attacks to reduce enemy fort by 50% at any range — massively valuable in new content.

I highly recommend Dark Gift for the increased range:
it dramatically improves survivability in raid situations (Marilith strikes, Juggernaut spins) and lets you sort of kite in clutch situations.

Credits : special thanks for Punneius that helped me with the gear tetris . copied Lominal's build posts format.

I thought I am going to see another VKF but surprised to see a Finality build.

I have been playing TWF centered dragon lord for a while but never thought about this split. I got around 6p of gear same as your layout and I got the blade at bank.

i never use the finality yet. Though SWF strike through is interesting, the attributes on it are not that attractive. How do you feel using that?

Where are you getting the Strike through on a single weapon? I thought it only applied to Two Handed Fighting?
How much strikethrough do you end up with % wise?

I just saw that the Sunblade Finality description about Strike-through but was wondering how much Strikethrough % you had?
I had a THF staff to test but that was 2 years ago.

It acutaly serves the purpose of the build quite well , the legendary slay living can proc on hit and it does more frequently than i thought it would.
you do miss out on magma/metlfang but being a trash killing machine i did not feel lacking trash dps. for those seeking a more balanced build if i had the resources , I'd make an undying shortsword (with filigrees) and move the points from falconry to 12 in shintao ( 25% ds strike and hand of harm which is an auto crit on 9s cd) 11 pts in ravager for mp and action boosts and 1 in henshin . That way you just swap weapons during boss fights.

The main source is https://ddowiki.com/page/Two_Handed_Specialty , and I end up getting bit more from FoTW and GMoF for a total of 165% .
when considering swf attack speed , quick cutter and boulder's might , the aoe clear felt great.

What would you say the damage range would be using Quick Cutter?
Paired with dragon's roar , enough to one shot all trash mobs all the way to lamordia R10.

Afaik fort-bypass only helps landing crits , if you have low to-hit the debuff you can apply is armor destruction/ sunder (with a simple shatter aug you hit sufficient dc's with this build) . Both reduce the target's AC .

You have a screenshot of that to see what procs (extra damage) shows, I think my UI got messed up. What N+N+N you see?
