Hello, everyone!

This preview has your first look at the loot for the Terror of Demogorgon expansion! The items for this expansion can be found in the Test Dojo, so feel free to leave your feedback here!

For a framework for the items you're looking at, here's an overview on a few new and interesting things that can be found in this expansion pack's loot. There are a few features not yet appearing in Preview 1, but will be important to know about to understand the context of what's going on with these items.

Level
The items in this expansion pack are ML11 in Heroic and ML35 in Legendary.

New DC Proc Effects
We've made a suite of new item effects for the loot in this expansion. These largely resemble some existing effects, such as Paralyzing and Telekinetic, but using a system that lets us create them with level-appropriate DCs more easily. These are still a work in progress - We'll be adjusting things like DC numbers, cooldowns, and chance to apply on hit with these throughout the U81 Preview process. In the end, they may not be 1:1 identical to their older counterparts, but the hope is to be able to add these kinds of effects more easily to items with DCs that are useful in content near their minimum level.

Crafting Overview
There are two kinds of crafting in this expansion:
  • Items that drop with Nearly Completed effects, allowing you to select a 4th affix
  • Catalyst Crafting, in which you collect Rare Abyssal Catalysts and Deep Catalyst ingredients and combine them with legacy Named Items to create powerful new versions
Nearly Completed Items
Many items in this expansion drop with a "Nearly Completed" effect for their 4th effect. If you're familiar with Nearly Finished in previous content, this is a very similar (and Forgotten Realms-friendly) system. There are six kinds of Nearly Completed present on items in this expansion:
  • Spell School: This allows you to craft on an Equipment bonus to your choice of Spell School.
  • Skill: This allows you to craft on an Exceptional Bonus to a group of skills based on an ability score of your choice (STR skills, INT skills, etc)
  • Healing Amplification: This allows you to craft on your choice of Competence Bonus to Positive Amp, Enhancement Bonus to Repair Amp, or Profane Bonus to Negative Amp (the normal bonus types for those amps found on named items)
  • Ability Score: This allows you to craft on your choice of Enhancement Bonus to Ability Score.
  • Insightful Ability Score: This allows you to craft on your choice of Insight Bonus to Ability Score.
  • Quality Ability Score: This allows you to craft on your choice of Quality Bonus to Ability Score.
The ability to craft these onto items is not available in this Preview, but will be for Preview 2. To do so, you will collect Abyssal Gems (BtA) from chests, then use those with these items in a crafting station.

Rare Catalysts & Catalyst Crafting
The powers of the Abyss and Underdark are manifesting in strange ways! The Rare Items in this expansion pack's chests are Abyssal Catalysts and Deep Catalysts. Each of these thirty items relates to a specific item from DDO's history, and when the two are brought together, they can be combined into a powerful new form at either ML11 (for Heroic Catalyst ingredients) or ML35 (for Legendary Catalyst ingredients).

To do so, you will need:
  • One of the Rare Catalysts
  • The specific named item it is associated with - In some cases, this may require the Heroic version of the item for crafting a Heroic item and the Epic or Legendary version for crafting the Legendary one.
  • A number of Abyssal Gems
This will consume all of those (including the named item) to create the new item. These items, generally speaking, are stronger than other quest items at level, skewing closer to the power of at-level Raid loot.

The ability to craft these items is not available in this Preview, but will be for Preview 2. That said, all thirty Catalysts can be found in Rare Loot in the Test Dojo, and the items they create can be found under "Transformed Items" (a temporary name) there as well. Give them a spin!

Known Issues
  • Many items are not yet using the correct icons
  • Duergarcraft and Great Forge armors are showing the correct base layers, but do not yet have the gear that goes on top of those base layers.
  • As stated above, the system for crafting Nearly Completed item effects is not in Preview 1.
  • As stated above, the system for crafting Catalysts into new items is not in Preview 1.
  • Minor Artifacts planned for this expansion are not in Preview 1. They will drop on their own list, similar to how they dropped in Masterminds of Sharn.
  • Duergarcraft Weapons do not yet drop in chests. They will have a chance to drop in chests in this expansion pack, similar to other recent expansions.
  • Madness of the Demon Lords is visually smaller than it should be.
  • There are some chests in the new content dropping basic daggers - This is placeholder for things like ingredients and artifacts that aren't in Preview 1.
  • Legendary Catalyst ingredients don't have "Legendary" at the start of their name yet in this Preview.
  • Items in Demogorgon quest chests drop with the Weapon mythic bonus regardless of item type in this Preview.
  • New items with clickies and spell absorption don't yet have their charges set up.
  • Someone said they spotted some kind of "Starry" gem? Wild. Probably just a rumor. A myth. A thing that may disappear by next preview, if it existed at all.

All of the new clickies are missing charges and don't work.

Same issue this gear has had for a couple years now https://forums.ddo.com/index.php?threads/bug-longstrider-clicky.27853/

Please tell me there are lots of rare items! I have thoroughly enjoyed my so far 185 tries to get the Heartshard, and I am positively thrilled at the prospect of looking for more gear in the same completely and entirely enjoyable way!

On the Legendary Demon's Door, you have Lifesealed 40% and also Negative Energy Absorption 40%, but only one of these applies their 40%.

Some really cool gear here! Here are some initial bugs I found:
  • Wave of Despair is already an item that drops a Bastard Sword in the quest Desire in the Dark
  • Ruler of Ruin(both heroic and legendary) list Kinetic Intensity twice (insert Kylo Ren gif here)
  • Cracked Symbol of Lolth is missing one ehancement
  • Flamewhip Belt(both heroic and legendary) list Fire Intensity twice
  • Cavernous Chill(both heroic and legendary) list Ice Intensity twice (Ice Ice baby)
  • Demon's Door(both heroic and legendary) has both lifesealed and negative energy absorb also has 5 effects
  • Fiendish Requisition (both heroic and legendary) are missing one enhancement
  • Null Blade Heroic is missing one enhancement (I think it is counting taint of evil when most items don't count this)
  • Demonic Rush, Dream of the worldshaper, Drow Captin's Mask, hooves of Orcus, Planar Lariat, and Visor of Fraz-Urb'luu are missing charges
  • The Blood of Demons (both heroic and legendary) is missing an enhancement (I think it is counting taint of evil when most items don't count this)

of course, SSG needs your money from rerolls. as such all the loot will be rare this update... joking... i hope...

Loot looks very cool. I prefer this rare system to lamordias, please keep the shards unbound and tradeable

Few issues that others have noted, so I wont try to list those out
Without being able to do the crafting / upgrading, I couldnt test this. However based on the name it sounds like the sharn crafting. Please please make it work like more recent crafting systems where you can craft over effects youve already crafted, such as morgrave, threats, den of vipers, etc ect

Happy to come up with ideas for minor artifacts if that would be useful since they werent in this preview, but dont want to post a wall of ideas if it would get skipped

Cheers!

I haven't seen anyone mention this. I don't agree with the Expeditious Retreat on level 11 & 35 boots. You can get similar run speed items at those levels. Quiver of Alacrity was just available to everyone. Topaz of Striding (ML 8) is available. Gayar's has more charges (technically speaking since these have 0 charges.)

Maybe it was a placeholder. I am hoping it is.

mmm.. this might be something like nebula fragment..

I wonder.. if it's this "special thing" for the expansion. I've already seen it dropped in a preview quest.

Honestly, sounds like sharn. I don't use nearly finished in sharn because it's not interchangable to different spell abilities, I have to have three of the item to cover the other classes of magic, and with your drop rate system that's not going to happen ever. so **** NO!!!!
And you went all in with the solar/lunar gems, now you're ditching them. You go on and on about keeping equipment and items valid and usable long term, then you put out a system like the solar/lunar gems, with so many available it's impossible to get the ones players want, not to mention the rare ones, then you scrap it all together. It seems like you're intentionally sabotaging the game we all love to play and spend money on. Don't forget we are customers.

Could I please ask that the % chance gets included in the tooltip text? I dont mind if its tiny or large, just that I have a clue about how often its likely to happen. as it is I tend to just... ignore effects with a stated 'chance' of happening because I have no idea if the mob is saving all the time, or the proc chance just... never happens.

What are you talking about? The loot in this expansion has Sun and Moon slots.

o they? That's good to hear, seriously, but they didn't mention that in the description here. Or did I miss it. I did just have brain surgery a month ago.
I still stand by my point, the crafting system is a lot like sharn, which is the absolute worst in the game. And if they want to keep gear from expansions viable, they need to not flood us with crappy crafting systems and with too much gear we never see due to rare loot systems. Maybe target certain types of gear pieces to be spectacular while the rest is mediocre with less of it. The next expansion rotate it for what types of pieces are spectacular. And in the process increase the drop rate percentage so paying customers can actually get the pieces they work and paid for. To me, IOD is the only balanced accross the board expansion. I'm looking at gear usefulness, acquisition, and customization. To include acquiring ingredients to customize gear and weapons. And it's a lot of fun, not too big wilderness, has warp points t areas to key areas to help grind quests for gear n a timely manner.
