Isn't thorn strike piercing damage and not force damage? That master of stuff says it needs to proc'd by the appropriate damage types. But that's odd that splinterbolt triggers it given those conditions...
I think force spell will trigger force addition (for example salt ray proced force dmg when i checked) and physical spell like thorn strike will proc proper physical (in this case - piercing) addition - that worked for me (at least i saw in my combat log two instances of dmg for this one spell)

I totally missed that it does force for force and blugeon/pierce/slash too when I first read thru things; thought it was just force for force. So much information overload with all these changes.

They're unlikely to completely remove the ap requirements, but lowering them to something like (tier level *4 ) would be reasonable.
I have definitely felt at times that it would be nice to get tiers 4 and 5 with fewer points. Usually I get the things I want from tier 4 and then have to go back and grab some random minor bonuses to unlock tier 5.

The current progression is
Tier 2, 5 points spent in the tree
Tier 3, 10 points spent
Tier 4, 20 points spent
Tier 5, 30 points spent

Changing it to 5/10/15/20 could be pretty interesting I think. It'd allow you to spread out through enhancement trees a bit more, opening up more options. And it'd still require some investment to grab tier 4 enhancements, just slightly less.

Big fan, sounds great.

Most of all would like to see changes to Warchanter and caster trees, which are insane point hogs.

Very cool overall, though can we halve (or 33% reduction, idk what's best) the AP investment for tiers and cores? Or just do away with it and stick with the class level in the tree tiers and in the cores? Would really like to see the penultimate core open up at 16 instead of 18 as well.

Always happy for more AP to spend. With the changes to Harper and a few other trees, this definitely opens up some new build ideas.

Does this mean Holy Retribution in KoTC going to get an AP cost increase from 1 to 2 AP? If it is it should still be more than made up for with decreases lower in the tree, Exalted Smite especially which should go from 6 to 2 AP.

IMHO, this is a fantastic first pass to balance out AP costs and implicitly solicit sane feedback at the same time. ;)

More will likely be needed. There are trees like DL where you pretty much blindly paint the tree and get decent to exceptional value all the way up and other trees like GMOF chock full of 3x non-action nodes that are only useful after 3dp spent.

That would be some crazy power creep

We want the game to be harder not easier

  • All active enhancement style tree abilities are reduced to only 1 rank (the most powerful version). This "fixes" the action bar bug where you’ll have an inferior version of the ability if you don’t redrag after increasing it's rank. We intend to no longer make ranked active abilities going forward.

  • For each active ability the AP cost is set to 1 on tier 1 abilities, and 2 for any other Tiers.

  • This includes enhancements, racial, universal and destiny trees.

  • Most Trees will free up somewhere between 2 - 8 AP. Enjoy!
Note - This pass is NOT done in preview 1 but is in progress and will appear in subsequent previews. Affected Trees...

Sorcerer Trees (but not wild mage)
Wizard Trees
Fighter Vanguard/Kensai
Deep Wood Stalker
Druid Trees (including blight caster)

Great Change!

This is something I had not even considered, but I like it and it does make a a lot of sense, since you pretty much never use a not fully ranked active anyway.

We could push this economy of scale idea to its ultimate conclusion and think along the lines of one human past life = +1 health, +1 WIS and +1 racial AP?

As reality bites me in the assets, it would be really good to rationalise this greatly appreciated initiative by SSG (that's a combination of words I haven't used much in the past, long may it continue!) and thereby I would humbly suggest the example of the Primal Avater tree and it's T1 3-tier ability where you can currently spend 3 EDP for +3 PRR and +3 MRR, which always seemed expensive to a tourist like me, strapped for the local currency.

I'd go even further, I think we should remove Trances from the game entirely. They're just a boring 2 minute button-press tax. And they're so strong that they're a mandatory part of any reasonable build, so they're a build tax, too. And you can snapshot them, so they're an item swap tax, too. And the best way to do that is through a sentient weapon, so they're a fully maxed out sentient weapon swap tax, too. Oh and don't forget to cast Tenser's Transformation and any other short term buffs and potions you have before your Trance, so there's another swap tax, too!

I hate that optimal play has become an exercise in tedium. Just remove trances and buff up Enh/Ins/Qua bonuses for hit and damage on gear to compensate. That way my desire to min-max isn't at odds with my desire to have playing my character be fun.

And still reduce enemy AC at end game on top of that. The formula for it is out-pacing our to-hit way too much.

Also needed (at least by my characters to get a DC high enough for combat actions (trip, stun etc). Yeah, i think if an ability is absolutely required on all builds, be it melee, ranged or casters, then there's something wrong.

Master of Force should apply a proc for the appropriate damage type for force/piercing/bludgeon/slashing, the thorn spells appear to be missing the right flags
