Ukraine payment source restricted from making purchases

  • I was able to buy DDO Points back in 2013 (to upgrade my account from F2P to Premium).
Well, it was possible in 2013.
  • In 2016, when I started playing again, I was no longer able to purchase DDO Points.
Because they stopped supporting Ukraine in 2014.
  • Somewhere around 2020, I was able to purchase a few expansions on sale

  • Bet I still wasn’t able to buy DDO Points, though. I remember being envious of the triple DDO Points discount
Oh, now it became clear.
DDO Store (in-game) and DDO Market (website) are maintained by different companies. Or at least they were.
So, yeah, it's possible that DDO Market kept accepting payments for some time while DDO Store won't.
But, as far as I know, both of them are not working nowadays.

The discrimination against Ukraine (which I strongly disagree with - and I also don't like that they are using a Russian company) began in 2014.

  • In 2016, when I started playing again, I was no longer able to purchase DDO Points. I’m not sure about expansions back then — I didn’t try (I think only MoTU and Shadofell were available).
  • Somewhere around 2020, I was able to purchase a few expansions on sale — I think it was Ravenloft and/or Sharn. I also remember that during COVID, Sharn was given free access, and after that free access ended, I bought the expansion. I’m also pretty sure I bought MoTU and Shadowfell on sale at some point, possibly even before Sharn and RL, since I remember getting access to them before I had Ravenloft or Sharn gear, running around Forgotten Realms in RNG items. Bet I still wasn’t able to buy DDO Points, though. I remember being envious of the triple DDO Points discount 😁
Are you sure you bought them on the Market? It seems more likely you bought those expansions for 99 points in the Store, since that was the first time they were discounted for 99 points. If you played during COVID, it doesn't make sense that you bought them for real money, especially Ravenloft, since I think the Ravenloft pack was no longer on the Market at that time, only on the Trove.

As some mentioned, VPN or changing county or different payment method was possible with varying success from 2014 onward. With options shrinking as time passed. As much as i like game, I dont think you should jump through all possible hoops to, maybe, have a chance to spend your money - intent is clear, to not allow payments from some region-bound accounts. Even if you left region long time ago - it is not possible to change it in DDO, not to mention star level CS interactions.

idk, changing payment options, deleting and putting them back in, while on the vpn, might, might, make it set the country to the vpn one. You would have to leave the vpn on the whole time, and go through it all over again next time if it even works. But the payment option would have to match the vpn as well, so good luck.

Until fraud became too much, and every anti-fraud mechanism was enabled to minimize it. It's not a coincidence that happened the same time the new DDO Store launched.

I believe I bought Ravenloft, MoTU, and Shadowfell a few months before COVID. I remember making a fairly large purchase (in terms of content) and being very happy with it. That 99-point purchase was made on my second account (mainly used as an opener).

My memory may not be 100% accurate regarding exactly what and when I bought, but I’m quite certain that I made a purchase of Expansions through the web store at least once. I clearly remember adding my credit card details and the transaction completing successfully.

I tried several different approaches, including changing the information in my SSG account to match the region of my VPN. Even after more than a week, nothing changed. I still have only the same PayPal option available, which I am unable to bind as my Payment Resource. I tried this on my second account, which I had not logged into for over a week.

The DDO Web Market bugs out even before attempting to access PayPal: a “Zip Code” popup appears without any input field, and pressing “Continue” simply returns me to a broken page.

Different browser try? Delete cookies before vpn and save cookies while on the VPN?
I did try that as well. I created a new Chrome profile and also downloaded Firefox. However, this was before I received a detailed response from DDO support, where they made it clear that accounts are simply flagged, and even changing the country will not work 100% of the time if the system does not decide to unflag the account.
I did post two responses here: one general, and the other more detailed.

From similar posts over years - no good solutions or high hopes. Sorry folks who cant fully enjoy game they like. While it is possible to earn DDO points (and maybe buy in game), you still 6-12 month behind everyone running newer expansions. Brace yourself, and have fun with what you have.
Yeah, sucks — no Ultimate Bundles for me, with the 80% Black Friday sales, and all the account-wide goodies 😕

Well, at least DDO Points are still available. I hope they won’t block them; I might buy more during double or triple sales, hopefully for the 20th anniversary. Not as efficient as getting an Ultimate Bundle on sale, but at least it’s something.

Anyway, I’ve gotten used to it and have played the game like this for quite a while. More motivation to TR and farm favor 😅.
