Hey everyone this is going to be a "Lanterns of the Mist" style event. I want to give you some details on how this event will differ.
Summary: Hyrsam has re-appeared following the events of Fables of the Feywild in the Hut from Beyond. It's that odd hut in the harbor. The quick and dirty version is the Formorian King's curse which took Hyrsam's music has scattered it across the cosmos as "motes of musical power". He's been collecting them gradually under the watchful eyes of Hawthorn as a sort of centuries long penance, but it turns out the Formorian King has sent an army of minions from the Shadow Fell to steal the motes for himself. As each mote is taken Hyrsam can feel his soul being corrupted. Hawthorn and the Fey courts of Summer and Winter are asking you to help.

Lutes Instead of Lanterns:
Winter Court - New Hard Core Features
i. You may only take up a Winter Court lute with a level 1 character who has less than 1500 XP. Iconics work as before, but one change is a reincarnated character with past lives cannot take up this challenge. New characters only. This does not prevent you from turning in so you can reincarnate during a winter court lute run if you wish. We are trying to simulate the hardcore server experience a bit more here.
ii. Upon taking a winter court lute you receive a buff called Vow of Glory. This effect means you may only equip magic items that have dropped during the event!
iii. Items of the Fey Season: Nearly all magic items that drop during the event will have a special flag to indicate they are "In Event" legal items. They'll have a special colored border and mutation in the description. Anyone playing regardless if their on a Winter Court run or not can loot these items or, trade them or auction them. Only magical equippable items excluding the ammo slot are part of the Fey event system. Consumables are not impacted. If you equip an off season item with a Vow of Glory active you will be greatly debuffed until you remove it.
iv. In addition to being bound to using recently dropped items anyone with a Vow of Glory will appear on the leaderboard (yes, it's back! Speak with the Winter Court rep). This is why we can't really support people reincarnating into a hardcore run now, they have to start fresh or things get messy with their reaper xp. Your progress on the leader board and the Vow will be removed if you die of course. Summer lute runs don't interact with this system.
New Server Goal Feature
As your server collects motes you will see Hyrsam's condition improve. After a certain point he will be effectively "out of danger" and he will apply a buff to all players on the server for the remaining length of the event. We aren't really looking for servers to race, but that may happen anyway. This is more to give folks a feeling of accomplishment and narrative resolution.

Lutes Instead of Lanterns:
Instead of a lantern you get a Lute. It's different in the following ways....
i. Equipped as a cosmetic shield it allows you to see Motes of Music when you adventurer in quests. Note the Lute won't update your shield visual but will update your Lute visual if you play one already so hello bards!
ii. Encountering Motes of Music
They appear randomly in quests and wilderness areas, but not raids.
You can play the Lute to trigger a mote, which will cause it spawn its guardians, which most will have. Once you defeat the guardians you play it again near the mote to claim it to progress your lute's durability (and nearby allies) just like the lantern.
If you see a mote it won't trigger until you use the lute but it will disappear in a minute or two once it spawns which is pretty much in front of you, so it's more a call to action than an ambush.
Motes come in 3 difficulties with a 4th type which is special (see below). The most difficult may invoke magical Geases on your character which you can use your lute to remove. (you can't use this lute on the Geases in the Feywild raid, sorry)
iii. Lutes are easier to progress and turn in then the previous lanterns. One lute doesn't have a level lockout threshold and can be finished pretty quickly, and two have them only require level 15 to complete, so it should be possible to progress through them with a new character more easily in 1 life, filling and turning in lutes as you go, as opposed to having to wait until level 25 as before.
IV. There are two sets of 5 lutes, summer court and winter court (the winter court is the hardcore version), with a cosmetic reward for each one.
V. There is a special mote called a golden mote. There are five hidden specific locations somewhere in the game that each correspond to a type of Lute. If you can find a golden mote and absorb it, it'll give you a significant chunk of progress and a special custom reward (it's a secret). A lute can only use a golden mote once and only the mote of its type so it's a one golden mote per lute deal. This is meant to make this event significantly less grindy than the lantern event once all the motes are discovered.
