Update 69 Preview 3: Myth Drannor Wilderness Area

I spent about 45 minutes running around epic wilderness yesterday, and my first reaction is that it's big, beautiful, empty, and boring. I went in the entrance by the boat, took a left and roughly followed the edge of the map (although I was far enough away from the edge that I should've seen or triggered mobs anywhere along there), eventually making it to the cemetery and then into some of the ruins.

I came across very few monsters and they were in groups no larger than 3. I was solo, so the group size doesn't concern me, although I hope it scales with party size, similar to IoD. The problem was that they were really sparse, far apart, and there was little variety in what popped up. I'd like to see a lot more density and variety. I did run across a few mob portals, but they were difficult to see and disappeared after the initial set of mobs was killed. I'd like to see a few waves come out, along with variety in what monsters spawned each wave or by portal -- that'd make it more interesting.

In my time running around, I came across one scroll and two quests (one in the cemetery and one in the ruins). I'll have to explore again to find other quests, but the fact that I found nothing of interest in the area I ran through, until I got to the cemetery means there is NO reason for me to ever go through that area again once the expansion goes live, and that makes me sad. Sure, I might run through it for slayers, assuming mob density increases, but with no rares or scrolls (at least not that I encountered), there's little reason for me to bother. I'd love to have some reason to go to the area, even for slayers. Maybe put some rares there, or have explorer points. Another thought is to make the monster portals more worthwhile, maybe by having them drop chests, presumably with a different loot table than rares, but with something worth farming. It would be great if this whole wilderness was a great place to do slayers. That'll require more mob density, scaling of mob group size by party size, and enough rares and explorer points to keep it interesting.

I'll try to get back into the wilderness to see where the quest entrances and rares are tonight. My hope is that it doesn't require endless running to get to them all, because that would not be fun and will keep people from wanting to buy the expansion for the quests.

I really like the game's wilderness areas and appreciate the effort that goes into making them. But they do feel a little underutilized and I would like to see more special events in them. Like there are in epic Orchard, and also more of those Isle of Dread style purple named encounters.
Would love to see stonejaw-esque mobs pretty much in every wilderness, but away from the paths to quests.

Thank you all for the feedback. Adding more monsters this week. :)
Perhaps some additional feedback. The surrounding environs of the ruins are sparsely populated with monsters. The main thoroughfare of the ruins feel about right in terms of going to and from quests. If more monsters are added to the ruins, they should be more "off the beaten path."

And I do have to ask: Are all the explorer points "up and running" ???

I have to say I am rather flummoxed. I cannot locate The Seeds of Decay quest. Nor can I find a Collapsed Tower nor a villa of House Llundlar. Perhaps most remarkably, I cannot find a southeast crater. I would have expected a large landform like that to be easy to find.

Seeds of decay is a bit tricky because it has to be accessed from a higher vantage point. There were a number of explorer locations I did not find, the collapsed tower was one of them.

Finally found that darned Villa. I have to assume that the southeast crater is the prominent one southeast of the Speculum teleport and exploration points, somewhat south of the "monster lair" crater. At this point, I'd have consider the southeast crater as a bug report.

As for that "collapse tower" I have to wonder what that might look like ...

I would love to see an endless slayer rare a-la "Grim Disturbance".

Especially if this zone is going to be this big. Probably has a high cap number. Ideal for XP.

But if the Mob density is tough to nail down, just give us a rare devil portal that spews them out till we kill the red name in batches of 6-12.
Or undead spewing from a wild magic well. Anything to get us to a slayer cap in and hour or an hour and a half with a group would be fine.

No better time to coordinate your groups meals than the 45 mins-1 hour Endless slayer in King's Forest and I'd love to have a Legendary/Heroic Version as well!!!

I'm too lazy to search, was there ever an answer to the zillion percent fortification of the mobs in the forest?

I ran around the area for a bout 15 minutes last night.

Obviously more mobs need to be added, lots of emptiness. I don't think I ran into a single rare encounter either. Not sure if I was unlucky or if they weren't in the current build.

I would love to see Eveningstar Forest/Orchard style rare encounter mission objectives added to the area. Brand new rares as missions, in that style. Those are so great, and IoD lacked them.

Could someone please give me general directions to the Temple of Shaundakul Explorer location please? (I'll take specific directions as well)

Based on the number of rare encounters in Kings Forest that never show up, it seems like they exceeded your wishes. ?
