Vecna Unleashed Mini Expansion Details

Dragnilar

Dragonborn of Bahamut
After today's stream, the Traveler is 100% for sure going to be involved in our fight against Vecna.

In each quest of the hidden hand, the traveler appears to us an interactable. Always wearing the same hat regardless of the form. And all encounters are basically at or very near the entrance of each quest.

Army of Eternal Night - Wandering Elf
Order in the Court - Normal Statue
Three Paths to Battle - Odd Lantern Archon
Growing Pains - Totally Normal Cow *Side note very worth talking to the cow multiple times. very funny
The Hand and the Eyes - Wanderer

However, it the odd Lantern Archon that seals the deal for me.

The Traveler, an estranged member of the Dark Six, not that it is really related to them or even the Sovereign Host.

From the wiki:

The most mysterious of all the gods, the Traveler is believed to be a supreme shapeshifter and trickster, a virtuoso of deceit and craftiness, a creator of things and a bringer of knowledge.[1][2][6][3][8] It is even believed to be the true lord of Eberron, having walked all its roads and seen all its sights, and left them all transformed.[5] However, it is also said to be impulsive and unpredictable[16] and a creature of dark cunning.[5] The Traveler is thought to look favorably on those who use their wits or are resourceful, and to disapprove of those who beg for safety and care or for unearned gifts.[6]

Bolded for emphasis in where the Traveler sits in regards to others in Eberron and would be invaders.

Checked out Kill 10 Rats and didn't find any traveler plot points. Though if anyone knows of any other sightings let me know.

In other news, preview for Machrotechnic in two weeks (probably). :)

Thanks for the update.

On Kill Ten Rats - I've run it a couple of times trying to find something interesting that may have something to do with the current story... But nothing stands out to me, other than, AGAIN, the suspicious usage of music from Ravenloft. You'd think the music in the sewer would all be Sharn music, right?

Thinking on the rats themselves... I DON'T recall or know of Cranium Rats having any specific ties to RL, Vecna or Greyhawk. I checked the FR wiki on them and they seem to have been something that came from Planescape?

So with that in mind... I guess the whole point of Kill Ten Rats was to show Vecna is causing monsters from other Planes to start visiting Eberron via having the eyes and/or manipulation of the plot via the ol' Codex?

Misadventure

Killing everybody on Hardcore with pleasure.
I guess you can count me as one of the people in the "hardly anyone" category. ?

If I had to guess, it's probably because Frogo and the rest tend to either get stuck in daydream mode (seems to be a performance problem, idk) or they do dumb stuff like start fights with monsters halfway across the dungeon? Regardless of the reason, I get it.

On the taunt thing, I thought this was funny:

A couple weeks ago, Frogo or the Shield Guardian somehow managed to taunt the entirety of "Wild Thing". That was fun... I had an instant red dungeon alert and suddenly trains of dinosaurs, cats, water elementals, reapers and bugs all heading towards me.

Thinking K10R was more or less to say... codex pages still matter. Vecna's connection to the pages was arguably not obvious. Otherwise, I'm still not really sure what the point was.

Good guess puts us either reforming or redestroying the codex via the Conch and Foxpaw (and maybe the traveler). The veil that hid Eberron from other realms is attributed to the codex. That dropping is what Vecna show up in the first place.

Alternate theory that we may begin to harness the power of remnants or see more things empowered by the remnants. Maybe new champions? or more lore behind the champs? the mind boggles.

Either way it felt like Algernon was a accident involved a rem. u60 should reveal a bit more. Fingers crossed for the preview next week. :)

Someone just posted this image on discord. When the horse model glitches (any horse), it'll default to a plain brown looking base model. So it looks like the underlying base model for the panther is a sabertooth and the poster just revealed a likely upcoming mount (my guess would be with the mini-expansion).

Will tell my son he'll just have to walk barefooted through the snow this winter, uphill both ways.

Digging deeper. Would we say that the book is the Codex of the Infinite Planes? Doesn't match what we saw in the Shroud exactly but if I were a betting man. I think that's the codex.

I never played it and for others like me that have no clue what "Vecna Lives!" is...

Plot Summary
The adventure concerns the lich Vecna and his disembodied hand and eye—both powerful magical artifacts.[2] The arch-lich Vecna and his cult are plotting to change Oerth forever.[3] The adventure starts with a scene in which the players play the City of Greyhawk's great Circle of Eight wizards.[3] Vecna has ascended to demigod status, and serves as the ultimate foe for the adventurers in the module. Assuming the players are successful in defeating Vecna, he is transported to and imprisoned within the Ravenloft campaign setting.

I don't know...
We kinda killed it so maybe a stitched together version?

My guess, Planar Eyes + Conch of Secrets + Remnants = reforgeed book.

Power of the planes, plus a source theorized to influence the pages, and we know that the book is busted, but all the pages still exist..

Which is the hand drawing power from the book, is the hand merging with it, or is the hand being summoned from it? hmmm

Seeing as we're speculating and judging by where the story seems to be leading, is it possible this may continue back to Ravenloft? I mean, the hand and the eye CAN only be destroyed by the Sword of Kas and to get that wouldn't we have to venture to Cavitius?

I mean, if we where to, we would need an item to keep the environment from consuming us so maybe some piece of equipment crafting that we have to wear while out there kinda like the Boots of Anchoring in Tower of Despair possibly?

It would be nice to see a future expac bring us back to Ravenloft as there's still a lot of untouched potential there. Barovia is only a drop in the pond.

Also i like how the Sword of Kas could play into it as we already have sentient weapons and most depictions of the Sword resemble the Sword of Shadow which is pretty fun.

Maybe i'm just dreaming but it could be a fun little twist!

If we're gonna go off on that tangent then this Q&A from Sev a year ago will amuse you. 53 minutes in. It's a year old and SSG changes their minds and plans about stuff all the time, but just for the fun of "what ifs" and Ravenloft.

I would prefer...
The Book of Vile Darkness.

Book of vile darkness makes a lot of sense too. Though I would've expected more vile and darkness rather than the more metalic pages. Though Corso did say it wasn't quite done.
