VIP - Q1 2024

Some of it comes down to word choice, but "scrapped entirely" is not the correct phrase to use for our decision to take a fresh look at the work in progress list that was previewed about a year ago.
My words initially, but thank you for clarifying they're wrong.

I view this as just a bunch of folks wanting even more stuff that VIPs already get as part of being a VIP. I've been a VIP from the start of the game in Feb. 2006 non-stop and my reward is just playing a game I love.
I don't need anything additional to keep playing DDO as a VIP. I agree with one of the posts from Canicus, you will not be able to please most folks.
I've been a VIP since 2010 when I started playing the game. It really has nothing to do with how long you've been VIP, and honestly at this point it is starting to be less about "perceived value" and more about accountability (at least how I see it). Yes, the value of VIP has gone down continuously over the last few years, and you would think that ... given the literal meaning of the acronym "VIP" ... SSG would do things to a) make VIP appealing and b) have actual value over being a F2P/Premium account other than silly things like being able to unlock elite/reaper difficulty automatically. I say it is starting to be more about accountability at this point because update after update, producer letter after producer letter, this message comes out straight from SSG saying "we want to do more for VIPs" or "plan to give more value to VIPs" etc. and then literally nothing happens. Its just delays followed by excuses and no real benefit to VIPs.

Then, even when they had something decent in place that was at least SOMETHING (daily gold rolls), they took it away as it was "costing them too much" ... which again was a joke because they've brought it back twice since then ... and we were supposed to get something in place of it... and yet again, we got nothing.

Cool story. I bet car salespeople, internet providers and insurance companies love having you as a customer, too.

Some of us would actually like to get some value for the additional money we pay (or that SSG would like us to pay).

Value for money spent aside, the other thing is, some of us would like to see SSG make this game that we all enjoy playing even better.

Making VIP actually worthwhile in some form should be low hanging fruit for that so to speak. Tons of options for doing so, yet SSG hasn't been able to manage even one of them in 2+ years since their initial promise.

Instead, they appear to be too busy nerfing or even outright removing a lot of things people did enjoy about game while adding minimal value in return.

I can immediately think of one VIP convenience for which some players would sub... open quest instance or instant teleport to quest instance from Quest Journal. Just click on quest in journal you wish to begin and ta-da the quest panel opens and you are instantly teleported inside. No more running to quest after someone shares it, no more running around wilderness zone from quest hub if you do not desire to do so.

Expansion teleports would still be both viable and valuable to get to quest hubs faster and especially for those that aren't VIP.

Giving away cosmetics or other specific items is like buying someone a store gift card as a Bday or whatever present. What if you don't like the store you got the gift card to? I would prefer a generic gift card that I can use anywhere. If the concern is having VIP only cosmetics, then maybe sell them in a VIP only section of the DDO Store at an appropriate cost. Give me 1500 pts instead of 500 and I am happier than having 500 pts and some cosmetics I will never use and take up my bank space.

The real VIP perks should be in game perks. My suggestion was to look at other games that offer daily VIP rewards per month. They start small and usually end pretty nice for completing a full month. For example, a wartime ship simulation game I play has a day of premium as reward for reaching the top monthly goal and a random shot at premium items offered each week of completion...like a gold roll only way better items.

The current thinking by SSG is way behind the times for a free to play game with a premium option. And now YEARS behind schedule.

Oh no, please not that daily login crap. So glad ddo doesnt have that and i hope it stays that way.
And all this start at 4 or teleport to quests is good for min-max power tr players. Hopefully it will be something for everyone.
Like how about filling up our health and sp on quest entry again. Then we dont have to feel bad for actually taking part in the wilderness areas.

The rolls are already like a daily log in thing. I'm sure some people couldn't care less but I bet a lot of people do log into each server every day just for their dice rolls.

Filling up health, sp, even action boosts at one point was amazing ... but that shouldn't be limited to a VIP perk, that should just be a QOL thing for everyone.

We can certainly have differening opions. SSG didn't take away Daily Gold Rolls, they stated up front it was an incentive with a start and end date.

I hope noone is desperate enough to log in just to make a silver roll. 500 xp takes <30 second of quest time earn so its not worth the time to log in for, imho. I doubt many VIP do that, but obviously neither of us know how many do :)

I cut them slack about VIP value because the big loss of value was only relative to them giving away the packs.

It was in place for one year as a placeholder VIP perk while they worked on other things. Then, towards the end of that year period (as the end date of the rolls was approaching), players asked SSG to extend the daily rolls until they fully implemented the "new replacement perk" they had been working on. They didn't want to do that because it was too costly according to Sev, so VIPs sat around waiting for this new thing to be implemented.

If it was simply just an incentive, and not treated as a placeholder while they worked on something that was supposed to be better, it would be a different story.

TL;DR: they did take away daily gold rolls and left us continuously waiting for something to come in place of it... and guess what we're still waiting for.

They were there, then they weren't. That's "taken away", regardless of the why.

You're missing the point though. Those daily gold rolls were the only thing they've done to improve the VIP program after years of slowly reducing the value of it.

They could very easily have left those in until they came up with other ways to improve the VIP program. They didn't though. *That* is the gripe some players have about it.

I would glamor more things if I had places to put them for sure
I think it’s already been said that the devs could not do a closet for glamored stuff, the closet would only be a reference point for storing and pulling out base premade cosmetics.

You know what would be nice? If vips got a btc +1 heart every time they created an iconic.

A +1 heart is really just good for iconics; I cannot think if any other use for one! Specifically for switching from the standard to an archetype.

To me, the iconics are a pretty awesome thing for vips to have. I would like to see additional iconics just for vips, ESPECIALLY if they come with a +1 heart. But even if they do not come with a heart (again for vips), I would still love to just see a few more iconics. Specifically some eberron ones!

I love the free codes, think they're great for the game. My main beef is they've said multiple times since then that vip is lacking and needs more. It would be pretty simple and easy to implement a few bonuses, or just increase existing one. It doesn't have to be a whole giant new system, especially when they don't have any experience with something like that.

The last 12-month thing they had looked like a horrible idea of a battle pass that many games have. BP are intended to keep players coming back for more. Problem is, they have a FREE path that gives stuff, and then if you pay for the pass, you get extra stuff. These games also have daily rewards and daily missions to get people on every day.

DDO isn't that type of game at all. There's no reason to try and push a VIP(pass) with rewards that very slowly escalate and you don't get the big rewards til the last few months. It would be like if the current vip system started you at 100 store points in the first month and 1% vip bonus, and by 12 months it would go up to 500 and 10%.

People that VIP tend to get it and keep it, not do 1 or 2 months here and there. Everyone I hear just WAS vip. Don't try and shove this new system on us thinking it will change any of that. All that does is spread out things for no reason other than to make the system that NO ONE liked, look like it's necessary.

That plus the boxes every 3 months were insultingly bad. Please just look at the zillion suggestions in the thread in my sig.
