Warlocks and Eldritch Blast

Otay! Another newb question! 🙃

I have two Warlocks:
a baby lvl 9, Teifling, Pact Celestial
a teenager lvl 21, Teifling, The Great Old One

Now the question is "what is my Eldritch Blast?" (wiki says Force)

I "think" as Pact Celestial, electricity is ADDED to my Eldritch Blast?
I "think" as The Great Old One acid is added to my Eldritch Blast?

But what is the core?
Energy Types: Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, Sonic, Force

The reason I'm asking is the Enhancement Trees (somewhere) I noticed something about boosting Fire damage.
But if I don't do fire attacks, then I don't want to put any points into this, right?

Thanks!!

You get both blast dice and pact dice. You do whatever your pact damage is for the pact dice. For blast dice, it's force by default which can be changed with utterdark (to evil using radiance spellpower) or piercing blast (piece using force spellpower) via the TS tree

There is 2 parts to the eldritch attack. First the blast dice, and secondly the pact dice. By default the blast dice is force damage. Pact dice are as you noted based on your pact.

So the first one (without enhancements) does force + lightning. The second does force + acid. There are enhancements to change the blast dice to other types such as Utterdark blast in the Tier 2 Tainted Scholar converting it from force to evil damage.

https://ddowiki.com/page/Warlock has the relevant saving throws for each pact, etc.

Only Warlock tree that boost fire damage is Acolyte of the Skin. Maybe you choose the archetype, or you are talking about the Racial Tiefling Tree that has some Fire damage as Hellish Rebuke, Scorch and Incinerator.

Yes, if you are not building a Fire Pact Damage, is best to avoid spending points on those enhacements.

Okay! This part is starting to make sense... mostly :)

Now I just found "Power of Enlightenment: Light (1/3)" < Enlightened Spirit Tree
Which says: "You gain +5 Light Spell Power and +2 Universal Spell Power"

This is my lower level lock, the one with the Celestial Pact. So, would this do anything for me?

You guys are better than the Wiki!!
Thanks!! :)

The answer there is complex. +2 universal obviously would effect blast & pact.

For +5 light:
For blast damage, it would only effect it if you're using utterdark in TS tree to make your damage evil.
For pact, with celestial (electric), it would do nothing for you.
If you use the active AoE blasts (Eldritch Burst, Spirit Blast) in the ES tree, those have light damage on them and it would effect those.
If you go deep enough in the ES tree for the light imbue, it would effect that.

so your using force + pack elemental damage unless you switch to evil damage.
so take a scepter of force spell power with lore and another with the element of your pack in the other hand .
better to use an Orb for the off hand ( there is a reduction for two handed fighting using two scepter's).
Then if you choose to use evil damage with the toggle.
switch the force spell power scepter for radiance with radiance lore. keeping the orb or scepter for the pack element.
put it in a quick weapon select as a set for each and place them on your tool bar.

I put the radiance set next to the Utterdark toggle so I remember to switch scepters to increase damage from the specific element. force or light

for normal blaster with or with out chain

GAH!

Okay, so with all this great info/advice I was checking my "Feats" tab on the character sheet.
I tripped over two different Feats: Pact Damage & Eldritch Blast Damage.

Eldritch Blast Damage: +1d8 EB base damage. "Requires one of: Fey, Fiend, Great Old one"
Pact Damage: +1d6 pact damage from your EB. "Requires one of : Fey, Fiend, Great Old one"

The wiki says that Eldritch Blast Damage (Passive) is automagically given to warlocks...
[ I can't find "Pact Damage" for this instance on the wiki ]

I'm Pact: Celestial

Did I pick these or were they actually just given to me?
and they don't work for me?

</heavy sigh> </lol>
Thanks!!

There are seven different Pacts a Warlock can choose at Lv 1, basicly it changes the elemental damage you will do.

Fey - Sonic Damage
Fiend (True Fiend) - Fire Damage (Acolyte of the Skin exclusive)
Great Old One - Acid Damage
Celestial - Eletric Damage (This was what you chose at Lv 1)
Abyss - Negative Damage
Carcieri Storm - Cold Damage
Dark Powers - Evil Damage (Exclusive to Dark Bargainer Iconic Class)

Eldritch Blast Damage: +1d8 EB base damage. "Requires one of: Fey, Fiend, Great Old one"
This Requires one of... is wrong in-game tooltip, all Warlocks are granted Eldritch Blast Damage at Lv 1. Should be:
"Requires one of: Warlock level (1) or Acolyte of the Skin level (1)"

Pact Damage: +1d6 pact damage from your EB. "Requires one of : Fey, Fiend, Great Old one"
This requires one of... is incomplete in-game tooltip. It would have to list the seven diferent or at least include what we choose.

Did I pick these or were they actually just given to me?
Yes, you picked Celestial at Lv 1, so you do Eletric Pact Damage which has spellpower boosted by Magnetism and critical chance by Lightining Lore.

Okay, just to verify (cause my guild is telling me different):

Tiefling, Warlock, Pact Fiend, lvl 8
Eldritch Blast = Force + Fire | +X universal spell power wouldn't do anything?
Eldritch Aura = Force + Fire | +X universal spell power wouldn't do anything?

Now, if I spent points on:
Enlightened spirit Tree > "Power of Enlightenment" +5 light spell power and +2 universal spell power - it would do nothing? for either Blast OR Aura?

But, if I put points in:
Tainted Scholar Tree > "Utterdark: Blast" Eldritch Blast swaps "Force" for "Evil" > Then +X universal spell power would boost Blast, but not Aura?

I think I'm getting this, but I want to make sure! THIS lock is my test lock that I want to do it right :)
It doesn't have to min/max, it just has to be correct </sigh> Virgos, were like that!

Thanks!!

Aura changes your blast into an aura. Therefor anything that modifies your blast will also modify your aura, becuase your aura is your blast in a different shape.

Universal spell power benefits everything.

Light spellpower only benefits light and alignment (evil, good, chaos, law) damage.

Utterdark blast makes your blast (and therefor also your aura) do evil instead of force.

Pact damage remains unchanged and scales with whatever spellpower aligns with it's element.

Not all light spell power affects alignment as well. I don't know exactly when the decoupling happened, perhaps when they revamped Eds and Shiradi gave chaos only...but I have often sat at cap with 100+ or more light than evil spellpower on my warlock. Some of the destiny trees even say light and alignment, however only give light spellpower (i.e. EA)
