Wellspring Enhancement Bug?

My Blightcaster's Spiked Growth and Grasping Thorns spells are being destroyed by fireballs and other fire effects even though I have the Wellspring enhancement from Seasons Herald. Is this a known bug?

Did the following tests (don't have a Blightcaster):

- Ranger 20, used Spike Growth, then I used Fireball via scroll, Spike Growth didn't disappear
- Ranger 20, used Spike Growth, party member used Fireball, Spike Growth didn't disappear
- Ranger 20, used Spike Growth, enemy player (in PvP arena) used Fireball & Wall of Fire, Spike Growth didn't disappear
- Druid 20 without Wellspring, used Spike Growth & Entangle, then I used Fireball via scroll, Spike Growth didn't disappear
- Druid 20 with Wellspring, used Spike Growth & Entangle, then I used Fireball via scroll, Spike Growth & Entangle didn't disappear

@J1NG Care to test this? Does it have something to do with whether the source of the spell is a monster or player? Does Wellspring's effect work? And is there a bug with Blightcasters after all?

Let me see what I can do in a bit, my usual cooking/prepping of dinner for family at this time.

Can OP give us more details on their build experiencing this issue? What is the race of the Blightcaster? And male or female?

Likelihood is it's the Class, but want to eliminate Race or the Gender of the character too at the same time.

Just from reading it, I would say because Blightcaster came out a lot later than this tree, the effect in the tree likely didn't count Blightcaster properly for it if it really is bugged. Much like the Fog for Warlocks, etc. As it's miscounting the appropriate levels for calculating duration or other effects such as immunity to fire from removing it.

Just tried this now on a Blightcaster, and there is some funniness going on.

Without the Wellspring Enhancement from Seasons Herald (Druid), the spells Entangle and Grasping Thorns are correctly burned away by fire spells from a Fireball style AOE effect. However, Spike Growth was not impacted by the fire, despite not having the Wellspring Enhancement.

With the Wellspring Enhancement from Seasons Herald (Druid), the spell Entangle becomes immune to being removed by fire as expected. However, Grasping Thorns did get removed still despite having Wellspring. So I would surmise given what OP wrote, that Grasping Thorns is definitely one that is buggy here.

The same results carries true also on my normal Druid. So again, it would suggest that Grasping Thorns is the only one with the issue here (not being protected from fire). Although these tests also highlight that Spike Growth is not impacted either way, meaning either it's not supposed to be included with this enhancement, or it has protection from fire that it shouldn't have.

Deeply appreciated, thank you.

So, to summarize:
- Spike Growth (regardless of class origin) isn't being burnt away by AoE Fire spells when you don't have Wellspring, even though it should (as is evident by Wellspring's description). It is WAI not being burnt away when you do have Wellspring.
- Entangle works as intended in all scenarios.
- Grasping Thorn (regardless of class origin) isn't being granted protection from AoE Fire spells when you do have Wellspring, i.e. it always gets burnt away regardless.

I have had this issue with Grasping Thorns on a Blight Caster. To be specific, I have only used the SLA version. That one kept getting burned away.

I have not tried it on a normal druid, nor the regular spell version of Grasping Thorns.

Male Halfling. I need to verify, but I believe the Spiked Growth is getting destroyed also, which I also have enhanced by Defiled Growth and Every Rose has its Thorn. I usually notice them being destroyed by Red Abishi or Gnoll Casters.

I haven't tried it with the Halfing yet, so I can't confirm if that might be the issue with your Spiked Growth being able to be removed.

I redid the tests for Spiked Growth here just now and it remained despite using a Fire Elemental to walk over it, Holy Fireball to blast it centrally, both in an Explorer and in PvP (Arena). So if it is being destroyed, it's likely not by the presence of Fire.

A quick test with Gust of Wind does clear Spiked Growth as per normal for Gust of Wind and Cyclonic Blast, which might be what Gnoll Casters might have used if it was in a spell cycle rotation in the middle of battle.

I also just tried it now in Grim and Barret against a Red Abishai, and the Spiked Growth was not being removed by them. The others however were impacted.

Should this be normal? I lean towards it not effecting them?
By rights, Gust of Wind and Cyclonic Blast should not impact on Spiked Growth.

However, by "Code" (as in, game code), it does affect them.

So, I would say it's one of those DDO quirks that possibly sit in the "Not WAI but there's nothing that can be done" category.

There's always stipulations. I'm sure if we could find a way to abuse it that they would find a way to patch it, haha.
