Is this a hint that the ingame party chat will never improve?

Titus.
Or maybe even likely be phased out which is funny, our guild leader auto kicks anyone that uses discord so everyone in our guild is and has been well versed on the security and privacy issues that come with discord.

I like the many other in our guild will never use discord and if they game goes back to not offering the in game chat it will likely result in what happened in the previous outage of in game voice, very few of our guild played during that time and several cancelled there auto renew due to the effects it had on our guild leader.

He has since spent many hours looking for a game to play when the in game voice wasnt working and came up with a game called warframe(I havent played it yet but he says it is awesome) which is completely free to play.

Of course this is only speculation and it is likely they will not be doing anything to shut down the in game voice.

If the discord turns out to be anything like these forums then its going to be a $*** Show. I'll check it out, of course and ill be pleased to be wrong... but something tells me its just going to be the biggest trolls here talking crap and spreading misinformation only you can't scroll past their BS.

I just want to say that the devs of Warframe are working on a game called SoulFrame, it looks cool. I like the look of it over the look of Warframe. I personally haven't played Warframe either.

I have direct moderation experience on discord, aside from the typical owning a server for a group. Im currently a moderator for the Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis Official discord and have been since 9/14/23 but that server has a terrible mod to community activity ratio and id be fully willing to step down there to dedicate my time to the DDO discord! I have been on discord for many years now and would love to be able to not only engage with but help this awesome community! I work from home and have 3 monitors, so I always have a monitor with discord visible! I put in my application earlier, crossing my fingers for a response <3

either way: see you all in the discord!! :D

Getting a group of moderators is a good idea but would still require a lot of this game's development staff to visit from time to time or many players may not visit. It would be good to get moderators from different GMT time zones to cover the slow less busy times of the day or if there are not as many players in that geographic area. Perhaps the experience of having this forum for years will help in starting the new Discord server.

I've moderated many times before in different communities of a similar genre such as on website forums, IRC, Teamspeak, Facebook and on Discord as well. So, I do understand how difficult it might be to start a new community but I'm sure many from the forums will come. Or it might not be active at all, difficult to know for sure.

The NDA is a tough one but is necessary when dealing with business communication between employees and other external employees, volunteer or otherwise not directly employed. If you owned your own server, you can say whatever you want and make any rules that you like or none at all. I once worked for a site around twenty years ago as a volunteer because I was intensely interested in the subject. No one made any money there except for the one that owned the site from ads and that just paid for the server bill almost. There was a NDA there as well, after I read it the outline was not very strict and easy to follow since I never told anyone about the inner workings of the site because this website had competitors.

You might have to deal with angry players on update days like today on voice chat in Discord. Not sure if too many players would want to deal with that.

Oh... the official server has a phone verification requirement.

I'm one of the rare few that don't have a phone number linked with my discord account (and currently can't add one). Unless @Cordovan or someone else with power can give me a role to bypass that, guess I'll be locked out for the time being.

I understand for server security reasons why it's like that, just pointing out for others that it's there, and atm I can't do that.

strongly recommend multiple MODs, with several junior MODs and one Senior MOD. Ban powers ultimately resides with Senior MOD who will consult junior MODs of decision to ban.

Of course, Cordovan will hold ultimate veto power over any ban decision. Plenty of warnings. A concise and open system needs to be implemented.

Also.

Somewhat controversial, but perhaps a link between forum member and discord member, so a ban there will also include a ban here.

No thank you, and likely to never happen. Discord is a dangerous place for lots of reasons. This forum was already leaked on the dark web years ago. I would be concerned that my game data would show up there again.

IDK is a discord ban warrants a Forums ban and vis versa.
It's to keep discipline in discord. Cord's eye of Sauron doesn't quite extend all the way to Discord. But the forums are well within Mor..er DDO jurisdiction, so a discord ban will carry more heft.

Fair enough.

I guess a permanent official discord ban is adequate.

But I still think we need several mods to police the discord. It's going to be a massive burden if it's a single mod. Also, some system to keep discipline in the discord channel. So it's not vigilante wild Wild West in there.

If Warframe interesting to your crew, you should also check out Remnant II. It's a similar idea to Warframe but I like it more. It also has a permadeath option at character creation. ?

The only limitation is co-op play is capped at 3 people so it's perfect for a couple friends but won't work for larger groups.

Ironically, I discovered this gem two weekends ago after getting sick of the constant lag in DDO and logging off instead of leveling my TR as originally planned. It's 50% during for Steam's Summer sale.

Remanant II has a solid amount of build diversity and gearing options. The combat is similar to Dark Souls, so there's no just holding down auto-attack and winning. The puzzles are reasonably interesting. Most importantly, their devs got a LOT of the small, quality-of-life things right.

The worlds you explore are gorgeous and thematically on-point. Each one feels unique. There's a nature world, a sci-fi (think Riddick/Pitch Black + Matrix) and a goth/steampunk style world so far.

Here's a screenshot of the nature world for example.

uh, Cordo never used singular language in the OP, and clearly uses pluralized language instead, thus indicating that they do - in fact - want multiple volunteer moderators to help moderate the new discord server.

Glad we are working on making a better voice chat and community gathering place. very excited to see this in action and have applied to moderate. I hope this gets going soon and goes well.

I'll tell you why that won't work.. you need IMMEDIATE power to ban in some instances. Discord doesn't just "turn off" when American's go to sleep. DDO is played by people all around the world, so how do you propose with ONE mod that can ban, how they are going to do that immediately when something is happening at, say 2am?

Also if you read his initial post properly they are already aware they need multiple mods., this is nothing new for any discord server tbh

That's why even the unofficial DDO discord has multiple mods.

Also bans across both.. no, hard disagree on that.

How are you going to moderate discord if you're not on it? lmao
I was able to create and account just now without installing Discord on my computer. It appears I can run from a browser. I'm a brand new user :D

I'm still using a non-work computer for this that I just put together. Might no be Win11 compatible, but rockin' fine right now on Win10!

Just a heads up that at least for now our voice channels will be audio only. We could maybe open it up to video in the future, but there are some...problematic things that could happen if people start turning on video cameras.
Good points! I saw an image someplace in the news recently and the girl in the photo had a clear glass bong on her kitchen sink in the background. It was a circulated news piece. I'm sure someone in her circle of friends already pointed it out to her, ouch.

Yes, Discord does offer a browser client, as well as an app based client for both PC and Phone. There are multiple ways to connect to it. I'm not particularly a fan of the browser client, but it works.
