I think it's cool that folks have already expressed interest in being a moderator!

I read the terms and conditions listed on the monkey. Easy breezy, but I've been a Mod before and currently have about 100-ish peeps I moderate ona work listserv that don't post much. Since it's a work listserv folks keep it squeeky clean unlike my past experiences : ) ) I've modded bigger back in the day and it can get stressful when you're the only one on duty when everyone online seems to have a bad hair day at the same time. I don't see that being the case in this situation.

I created a Discord account and will mull the idea of applying since I can run it via browser.

EDIT ~ I also want to mention that I feel everyone should apply for a term on the DDO Council. It's a focus group in case you need to curb expectations of the what the council does. I've been on/in lots of focus groups and I enjyoed it. I haven't re-applied, becuase I feel strongly that more folks need to take a turn at it to get their feedbacks into the DDO bloodstream.

I was able to create and account just now without installing Discord on my computer. It appears I can run from a browser. I'm a brand new user :D

I'm still using a non-work computer for this that I just put together. Might no be Win11 compatible, but rockin' fine right now on Win10!
Whether you use the browser or the app, you still need to log into your discord account and join the server in question to be able to moderate it

Thank you to everyone who has applied! I am surprised by the overall number of applicants within the first day, we've seen 40 people apply so far. I've reached out to people I don't really know based on their forum history or past interactions to better understand who you are and why you want to apply.

One thing: I have seen a number of applicants not include all of their address information, namely their city, state and zip code (US when applicable). I bet this is an auto-fill thing, so check your application to make sure the full address was put in. For those missing parts of the address, I will just reach out to you if we end up approving your application.

Happy to see this. I'm hoping more of the playerbase will give Discord a chance now that an official Discord will exist. It has the potential to bring more DDO players together. A good chunk of players already use Discord, but many don't. The unofficial one is great but hopefully now with an official channel more will give Discord a chance. SSG I hope promotes it and uses it alot. I know some people have their complaints about it but it really is a super useful tool as a DDO social hub, voicechat (way better than in game voice) and organizing play sessions and events. I would never want go back to playing DDO without using discord.

. Being able to drop a link in party chat to a voice channel where people have a lot more control over things and which offers much higher quality audio than our baked-in voice chat is going to be appealing for some, especially since a large percentage of our population is already actively using Discord.

This can be good and bad. Join a group or raid. They drop a link .. please join. .. no thank you I don't like discord or I don't have it downloaded and don't use it... they respond oh OK... /kick out of raid / party.

Not saying will be likely people do this, but it can happen.

Oh... the official server has a phone verification requirement.

I'm one of the rare few that don't have a phone number linked with my discord account (and currently can't add one). Unless @Cordovan or someone else with power can give me a role to bypass that, guess I'll be locked out for the time being.

I understand for server security reasons why it's like that, just pointing out for others that it's there, and atm I can't do that.
I don't associate my phone with anything. And if something requires it , I have nothing to do with it.

I predict this official Discord thing is going to be BIG.

It may replace some LFM's in-game altogether. And holy crap voice chat is going to be a LOT SMOOTHER.

Yeah... I know peeps really like the in game chat, but its clunky. I've been prettyy happy using Discord for comm stuff. ?

They also make a good point in that article, which is why I don't like discord and prefer forums:
MMO players also know that Discord is ephemeral, not useful for archival purposes for long-running MMORPGs, and extremely difficult to search.
I really hope forum communication with the devs will not suffer from this.

I would be surprised, if it changes things too much. SSG uses their platforms first and foremost to post official information and rarely for interaction with players (apart from their stream). I hope that will change with the discord but it would go against their usual routine.

Cheers,
Titus

The devs (at least on LoTRO side) like to
communicate through Discord.

In fact, it's preferred because they (the devs) can get a fluid live response on issues like bugs and tech problems, resolves things quickly. Get feedback faster and actually have a discussion rather than post one thing get a metric ton of misunderstanding before posting a follow up.
