What are peoples thoughts on the Producers Letter for the 20th Anniversary Year?

In the "It's time for a caster trapper Universal Tree, Race, or Subclass" thread from the end of last year, I predicted arcane trickster. Score.

I also predicted a lythari race with an Daggerspell Mage iconic (arcane trickster) that will go with an expansion. Instead of the furry elf, there will be a underdark expansion and, later, drow visual update. No word on an iconic, but still possible, nonetheless.

Class - called it
Race - giving myself half credit, because it will be an update for drow, a different elf subrace
Iconic - no points awarded so far, but may change later

I'm fairly certain Arcane Trickster will be still-born. There is no D&D game (crpg or mmo) that has ever managed to make it fly. With luck, there will be some interesting low-lying fruit in the tree for a splash.

A T1 or L1~2 feat that unlocks caster level = character level similar to wildmage's T4 would make Trickster a HUGE hit for caster builds even if it's never played pure.

Duergar is an interesting choice, perhaps driven by all the "it's another Elf" comments. It's dull, neither exciting nor worrisome.

The only irk I have with the roadmap is the comment about theming around the "deck of many things". Oh, joy. More RNG grind. Guarantee this will be the most hated change to hit the game since giant loot tables.

Hmmm ,
New race ... decent, could be worse. At least it is a race played in PnP so ... cool
New Archtype - Again, decent. Could be a LOT worse and that class is again featured in Pnp so ... cool
New dungeons, sure ... we will see when we get there.
Hardcore .... ish (total disappointment at that point) event. YAWN ! Hard YAWN! Why freaking bother?
If you do not lose your character if you die it is not Hardcore. It is just like regular play.
calling that 'Hardcore' is insulting.
peace.

Demogorgon and the Abyss... let's ride the Stranger Things finale bandwagon.

Personally underwhelmed for a 20th anniversary year.
Duergar are fine, I guess. Will we get Enlarge Person?
Arcane Trickster, meh. I've played enough wizard/rogues that this doesn't excite me in the least.
Out of the Abyss holds no interest for me personally; I would have preferred something more exciting. Lotro is going into new lands, we're retreading old assets back into the Underdark.

My own fault for hoping for more, I guess, for the 20th.

And yet, the timing of things, much like a bunch of things introduced after Bg3… nope, you’re right, just coincidence.

I think Stranger things is copying D&D
I think you didn't understood the irony... DDO completed 20 years and never touched on the Demogorgon and the Abyss Lore (as didn't have touched Vecna) until Stranger Things made it popular for a broad audience beside D&D players.

Now DDO is leaning hard on those plots (Vecna - Illithid Invasion - Abyss).

I have had a paid sub since just after launch. I wonder if there are any plans for some sort of honorarium for those of us who have been paid players since the start?

If they eventualy do what was said in that when the cap goes up to a certain level you will no longer auto lvl to 34/36 when you hit 30 so I would advise not to eat any stuff in that level range
My plan is to just keep on a good level 29 suit till cap if that happens. Alot of people just wear a level 15 suit that is 3 piece till 29, while grabbing gear in other slots. I would imagine people would take the same approach if there were legendary TRs.

At this point I can't see then doing it at 36, game would need way more content to legendary TR for it to make sense.

LOTRO really doesn't have a choice. Once they finished the books, where else could they go but to new lands?
It wouldn't be that difficult to put new content in places like the Tower Hills, Lindon, or other vast swathes of Eriador that have yet to be covered, where they wouldn't need to create new assets for the terrain, etc. Lotro doing the equivalent would be a return to Moria, where we go down and fight a balrog who also happens to be in the deeps, but was, I dunno, more chill when Gandalf showed up unannounced on his doorstep.

Even then, a Lotro expansion where we venture into the depths and face the nameless things that gnaw at the roots of the world as Gandalf described it, would have me more interested. To be fair, though, I have never been a big Underdark, Arcane Trickster, Duergar or Demogorgon fan to begin with. It could simply be they picked the exact things that don't interest me, and I am alone in the disappointment.

If they had announced Sigil, added the elemental Genasi races to round out the core planetouched, and said the adventure was based on the Modron March culminating in a fight against Primus/Orcus reborn, and they would be introducing the Swordsage archetype for fighters (Or a Tome of Battle/weaboo fightin' magic universal tree), I'd be a lot more excited.

to be fair, I think Stranger things is copying D&D and not the other way around.
I agree, Stanger Things of course uses D&D lore.

Think about it,.though. What does Vecna have to do with Isle of Dread?

If the lich in Stranger Things was Acererak from the Tomb of Horrors, instead of Vecna, that would have been who the mysterious stranger was.

If Stranger Things went with Orcus instead of Demogorgon in the show, Orcus would be in the producer letter, rather than who is n the show.
