however if I recall correctly runescape isn;t that different to DDO and yet manages some great numbers. Does anyoine have any personal exposure to runescape?

First, that's an estimation. Second, that's total lifetime players. Getting people to sign up doesn't mean much if you can't keep them playing, and a player who isn't playing is a player who isn't spending. That's part of the problem with DDO. We have in theory many thousands of players who have signed up but we only have a couple hundred per server playing.

all numbers are estaimtes including that nonsense from steam (and that's steam's numbers, not the TOTAL ED population).

Oh...you had no idea there's a huge gaming world outside steam

I'm completely aware. I have a ton of games from GOG. I just don't care about any numbers that aren't from Steam with the one exception being from DDO Audit since I know how they derive their numbers. ED doesn't even remotely have 18.7M active users or they would be bigger than World of Warcraft by orders of magnitude.

Elite Dangerous can be played without the steam client, so steamdb numbers aren´t complete.
But no direct rival ?? How about Star Citizen ? No Mans Sky ?

Also, I would absolutely consider any Fantasy MMO a rival to DDO, including WoW.

no man's sky and star citizen are SIMILAR games but not direct rivals. There are actually very few direct competitors because the risk of crash/burn is so great. I'm thinking the 1990s great rivalries including Borland C++ v MS C++, netscape v internet explorer etc etc

Since the game is unplayable on some servers, and they might be looking to do some PR, what are somethings you would like the developers do/work on?

Personally I want to see old content getting updated to match the current standards, like every update just give an older pack some refreshed items, and to see the developers be more transparent with how some of their systems work, particularly around drop rates.
I have lost most of my interest in the game.

They wont fix lag, they wont address the horrid lack of bank space. They have no problems creating more items, but no place to put them all. And from what I have read the drop is horrid for new expansion.
Sad thing is I already bought new expansion, but havent even played it yet because I just have no more will power to play this game.

Too many other awesome games out there that have no issues with servers.

so you're claiming the DDO license is heavily restricted? so why haven't SSG tried renegotiating it? Such restrictions only make sense of there was a a DDO++ on the market however my understanding is DDO remains a pretty unique product and it makes no sense to restrict its marketing potential
EXACTLY!
WOTC are REALLY mean when it comes to getting good deals on licenses, and with barebones spending on DDO I'm surprised SSG even managed to get what they got .

Why do you think there has not been significant updates to first two expansions?
I suspect culprit is that SSG has no permit to do anything other than minor touchups (like that atrocious endfight in Friends in low places, one which I said my opinion on discord and @SteelStar blocked me after).

There are tons of unfinished story lines (Grazzt still owes me a date, and I'm waiting for him to deliver) and not a peep about it being done.

I'd suggest to you to do some research how licenses go, you'd be surprised

Huh, that would make sense.
I'm kind of wondering if that update that broke wondrous items a while back caused/would cause problems for them.

Perhaps it tracks well, but it is hard to take https://mmo-population.com/list seriously when its list of top MMOs has games like BG3 and HSR. While those are certainly popular games, one is a single/multi player game and the other is a single player online game with limited multiplayer functionality.

Sophie the Cat Burglar will be given an exclusive white, blue, and silver cat suit with a bullseye on the left butt cheek and a white tail that works like a Cannith Spare Hand with a DC equal to her level times 200. She will also receive exclusive white cat ears, 50,000 tons of high explosives, blasting caps, detonators, an endless Cherry Fruit Smoothy of speed +200%, a throwing dagger that does a million points of damage per hit, a green augment of +2000 Sophie bonus to sheltering, complete immunity to magic of all kinds, elevated to Goddesshood, and be given a plane of existence over which to extend her benevolent and wise rule, inhabited by mermaids, flying horsies, and sylphs. She will also be given any other silly things she wants not otherwise mentioned in this contract, in perpetuity, forever and ever, ha ha ha, she wins.
So be it. It is granted!

To be serious they should do away with the code that gives the super ancient adventure packs away and just give it to people. Still charge for the expansions though, maybe not 50$ to 200$ though.

I would,

1. Give everyone a month of VIP.
2. Leave the lantern event going until a new iteration or new event is ready for Cormyr.
3. Add the FREEDDO2024 code as part of Black Friday deals.
4. Make an apology post or stream.
5. Produce a timeline towards Megaservers and transfers.
6. Make the Megaserver/transfers an event similar to Year of the Dragon with rewards for enduring it.
7. Find a way to drum up money for a dev that will fix bugs, communicate, and add QoL. (Level scaling hirelings, bank space bundles, curse cleaning items, etc)
8. Lax the rare drop rates in MD enough to get people playing it.
9. Make the second year of VIP have incredible rewards.
10. Make every expansion extremely cheap, all the time, except the latest one.

I respect your right to your own opinion, but I personally think that dipping into the Forgettable Realms is the worst mistake DDO has made. (Not least because and entire expansion where our epic heroes are acting as a distraction so an NPC can save the day is less than thrilling)

If we're going to add more cities, Fairhaven, Flamekeep, or Shai Cairdal would have a very different vibe than Sharn or Stormreach, and would expand our understanding of the world.
a distraction so an NPC can save the day is less than thrilling?

I am unaware where an NPC jumps in and saves the day in any of DDO's current worlds, quests or otherwise. Where is this happening and of course I would never condone that. Expanding further into the Forgotten Realms does not in anyway cause that. But for SSG or any game producer using D&D content not to leverage the Forgotten Realms is just bad business as it is the most popular D&D world by far.

I don't know how you missed Elminster doing every consequential thing in MotU except for firing the Ana-laser, which neither you nor she controls, so presumably that's Mystara's will made manifest through the Weave.

They almost fell into the same pattern with Venca Unleashed, but saved it from being a complete repeat of the fiasco by vaguely gesturing that the Traveler couldn't have sprung the trap himself, because one of Eberron's gods making any overt move would have tipped off Venca to the nature of the threat.

Apparently there are RUMORS (remember ONLY rumors) of a permanent fix to the lag issue which will inturn allow ALL existing accounts on the 32bit servers to be transferred over to the 64bit server.

Acknowledgement that such a fix has been identified and currently being tested would be GRATEFULLY appreciated (y) :)

Oooh boy, where do I start.

Lag. Fix it. I don't care how it's done or how long a downtime on the servers they need.
Roll over to the new 64bit servers. They have a game running on the 64bit server, just roll the user data across to it and stop *****-footing around making us all transfer to a new server which will leave old players behind when a guild moves as well as opening a plethora of other issues.

Make Cannith Crafting better (or a new crafting system) by breaking items down into their respective component prefixes/suffixes etc, allowing a player to combine effects depending on the item types found (hilts, crosspieces, blades etc)

Remove the bollocks rewards in the VIP Reward Program. We all complained and they didn't listen. That's bad.

Bring back quest packs to be free to play for VIP's. Every expansion pack has needed to be paid for even for VIP's Literally that bollocks.

More transparency in decision-making and consulting players or at the very least, the player council.

Let the players assist in upscaling the UI to work on 4k monitors. Seriously, why is this is STILL an issue?

Stop treating players like chumps. We are customers.

Did I miss saying Fix the Lag?

Tarrith
