however if I recall correctly runescape isn;t that different to DDO and yet manages some great numbers. Does anyoine have any personal exposure to runescape?
First, that's an estimation. Second, that's total lifetime players. Getting people to sign up doesn't mean much if you can't keep them playing, and a player who isn't playing is a player who isn't spending. That's part of the problem with DDO. We have in theory many thousands of players who have signed up but we only have a couple hundred per server playing.
all numbers are estaimtes including that nonsense from steam (and that's steam's numbers, not the TOTAL ED population).First, that's an estimation. Second, that's total lifetime players.
I'm completely aware. I have a ton of games from GOG. I just don't care about any numbers that aren't from Steam with the one exception being from DDO Audit since I know how they derive their numbers. ED doesn't even remotely have 18.7M active users or they would be bigger than World of Warcraft by orders of magnitude.Oh...you had no idea there's a huge gaming world outside steam
<YAWN>.. I just don't care about any numbers that aren't from Steam
no man's sky and star citizen are SIMILAR games but not direct rivals. There are actually very few direct competitors because the risk of crash/burn is so great. I'm thinking the 1990s great rivalries including Borland C++ v MS C++, netscape v internet explorer etc etcElite Dangerous can be played without the steam client, so steamdb numbers aren´t complete.
But no direct rival ?? How about Star Citizen ? No Mans Sky ?
Also, I would absolutely consider any Fantasy MMO a rival to DDO, including WoW.
I have lost most of my interest in the game.Since the game is unplayable on some servers, and they might be looking to do some PR, what are somethings you would like the developers do/work on?
Personally I want to see old content getting updated to match the current standards, like every update just give an older pack some refreshed items, and to see the developers be more transparent with how some of their systems work, particularly around drop rates.
EXACTLY!so you're claiming the DDO license is heavily restricted? so why haven't SSG tried renegotiating it? Such restrictions only make sense of there was a a DDO++ on the market however my understanding is DDO remains a pretty unique product and it makes no sense to restrict its marketing potential
Huh, that would make sense. Why do you think there has not been significant updates to first two expansions?
I suspect culprit is that SSG has no permit to do anything other than minor touchups (like that atrocious endfight in Friends in low places, one which I said my opinion on discord and @SteelStar blocked me after).
So be it. It is granted!Sophie the Cat Burglar will be given an exclusive white, blue, and silver cat suit with a bullseye on the left butt cheek and a white tail that works like a Cannith Spare Hand with a DC equal to her level times 200. She will also receive exclusive white cat ears, 50,000 tons of high explosives, blasting caps, detonators, an endless Cherry Fruit Smoothy of speed +200%, a throwing dagger that does a million points of damage per hit, a green augment of +2000 Sophie bonus to sheltering, complete immunity to magic of all kinds, elevated to Goddesshood, and be given a plane of existence over which to extend her benevolent and wise rule, inhabited by mermaids, flying horsies, and sylphs. She will also be given any other silly things she wants not otherwise mentioned in this contract, in perpetuity, forever and ever, ha ha ha, she wins.
a distraction so an NPC can save the day is less than thrilling?I respect your right to your own opinion, but I personally think that dipping into the Forgettable Realms is the worst mistake DDO has made. (Not least because and entire expansion where our epic heroes are acting as a distraction so an NPC can save the day is less than thrilling)
If we're going to add more cities, Fairhaven, Flamekeep, or Shai Cairdal would have a very different vibe than Sharn or Stormreach, and would expand our understanding of the world.
I don't know how you missed Elminster doing every consequential thing in MotU except for firing the Ana-laser, which neither you nor she controls, so presumably that's Mystara's will made manifest through the Weave.a distraction so an NPC can save the day is less than thrilling?
I am unaware where an NPC jumps in and saves the day in any of DDO's current worlds, quests or otherwise. Where is this happening and of course I would never condone that. Expanding further into the Forgotten Realms does not in anyway cause that. But for SSG or any game producer using D&D content not to leverage the Forgotten Realms is just bad business as it is the most popular D&D world by far.
