What is the LEAST gear dependent class/build in DDO?

I'm just curious. I only played DDO as a sorcerer, wizard, warlock, and a bit with the artificer. I will buy and play Alchemist in my next life. So far, I would say that Water Savant Sorcerer and Pale Masters are the easiest to do reaper quests naked. Air sorcerers' great problem is enemies with high reflex save + evasion, as sonic spells cost too much SP. In mid levels (7~13), I find it relatively easy to play r1/2 and sometimes even r3 without gear. Literally naked. See video below.

In general, legendary quests are the worst to try to beat naked. But I honestly don't think that I could solo high reapers naked with any class. Sure, having tomes and past-life stuff helps a lot. For example, a first-life Wiz doing the same quest above wouldn't have a tome and +X evocation DC from Sorcerer past lives (in the time of the video, +2). Nor the wiz feat (+1) and tome (+3 from INT bonus), making enemies pass his saves 30% more often, and with the more limited SP, would make passing such a quest naked in Reaper unviable.

This thread is not only to discuss classes and builds that can excel naked but also with very cheap gear.
I'd have to say legend of zelda. lol

Absolutely naked: probably alchemist?

If we are talking "in grouping content, *x* can do its job in the highest hardest content in the game - which has lowest entry gear to succeed?" - then various debuffers and healers. Healing especially is way more about mechanical play and anticipating events than your gear.

right out of the box, DB/DL is ezpz to run w/out gearing up. Next I would say 15/5 pally/dl DB race. Then as @The Narc2 said. cleric or fvs

I haven't read this whole thread, but my vote would be Barbarian. Lots of HP, damage reduction, uncanny dodge, temp hp. There's a reason lots of people toss a handful of barbarian levels on characters on hardcore league outside of run speed. Those on demand temp hp really cover a lot.

Honestly, i could say alchemist is literally over-powered enough that gear isnt necessary. The reason i didnt recommend it earlier is because i generally dont doing any advertising for SSG and this is a pay to play class. So if you already have access its great to use, if you dan buy it with your ddo points then its a well over-powered class to destroy groups of mobs.

If you dont then stick to those that are available in the cleric and the favoured soul.

Thats why there's so many inquisitors out there right right

For a melee build would Monk work given you wont have any weapons? For Barbarian or Dragonlord I assume you would need an unarmed focus (TWF) for the build?

Would a Druid Wolf or Bear work ?

Cool thread!
If someone wants to do a naked trapper (assume 1st life) for elite/r1 is it doable?
Or on such a case we use trapping only items?
Under the same assumption, could we use some skill items only to cover utility but not combat tasks?
I would love to try it with an artificer! Only simple repeaters of different material that just have an ML shard for damage scaling.
Can I use a rune?
Hmm, I think someone has to formalize some naked community rules 😅.
Are pots allowed?
Btw, I don't like running around in panties so I would either have a cosmetic or dress up on a disjunct cloths.
The more I think about it, can we have feather fall item? True seeing?

Oioi the rules can get tricky!
Things I would like:
Blind immunity (trinket)
True seeing (trinket)
Deathward (belt)
Feather fall (boots or cloak with slot to add the voice)
Water breathing (the air bottle)
Some clickies like shield, expeditious retreat or nightshield
Trapping items if needed. Meaning, if it is possible without them I would be happy not having them.
Special Material repeaters with ML shard
(Practically to by pass DRs and to get the damage scaling)
A runearm (one that can break multiple breakables by preference 🤣)

It can fast get derailed...

With the exception of the runearm all other item are not really combat enhancing. But more quality of life stuff.

Anyhow

In EXTREME MV we have a subset for barebones that is on top of our regular permadeath rules;

You may use any of the following slots freely, your weapon, shield, quiver and ammo, your cosmetic slots. You may craft a simple deathblock only belt, other than that you are allowed a single item to use in the rest of the other 11 equipable slots.

Keep in mind our standard permadeath rules require first life with no twinked gear, no ship buffs, no hirelings.

That should set a good bar to meet if you want a challenge.

twinked gear
What twinked gear mean?
Hires for purposes of using switches etc? (Just don't do those quests... but you get the point)

Pots?, Favor buffs, Favor rewards?
Clickables?

So I could have 1 crafted item with slots and equip the bare minimum quality of life (Feather fall, Voice, Speed, Water breathing etc, using Craftable items... which I can swap based on need)

I think I will try something like that! I like these types of restraints.

I can do things others can't...
Absolutely naked: probably alchemist?
If you're going to allow any sort of "minimum" or "barebones" to work with, then you might as well say "I can go with a Level 20 weapon, but it's got 10 Filigree in it". Or any other equipment. So in my opinion, it absolutely should be zero gear of any kind; otherwise, just a sliding scale of what's permitted - there's no parity at that point.

And in that case (zero gear of any kind), it will absolutely be the Alchemist. Even a barbarian will be clobbered in no time on R10 solo and running no gear.

In my youth I did a lot of caving. In my later years, I visited the odd castle or two. They are both chilly. Do not do them naked.

Twinked gear is in reference to using gear from other source besides that toon and questing, basically you start a first life toon and all the gear you use is acquired.

We do actually allow the fully passive use of hires for pressure plates, runes and level pulling as an exception to our no hire rule. To be clear on that rule these hires need to be not involved in any combat interaction and may not do any sort of buffing, the use of any hire capable of rezzing is not allowed.

Potions wands and scrolls may not be purchased with platinum, but consumables are shareable within the guild if people have found them, so if you are looking for some pots guildies might be able to provide you some.

Favor buffs(house p and house j) are not allowed, but all other favor rewards are useable including the harper pin.

Clickables, if you acquire thru questing or rewards you may fully use them, we do not allow brokers or auction house.

100% you are allowed to switch the one item you are wearing, if it is in the same gear slot that is an easy switch, if it is in a different slot you must remove the first piece of gear to use the second and then remove the second tonput the first back on.

Because of the no twinking rule, you can see that no brand new first life toon will have any epic weapons with 10 filigree slots.

Anywas i will send you a PM about EXTREME MV Permadeath, dont want to get this topic to far off its original focus.

That is GREAT, yes I would love to make a toon and join this playstyle.
I assume Cannith Crafting is allowed. It will take a while to achieve it but by the 2nd life I think the toon will ROCK :)

So...
What are the exact stipulations you want to roll with so everybody is on the same.page for this thought experiment.

I did a naked heroic run just before reaper came out. I documented
it on the killed-off forums; I called the thread, ‘Songs of the Slums.’ I used lines from a poetry book of the same name. Yeah, done a lot of odd stuff here.

I think I was 2 monk/rest wizard (including Eschew materials) and realized that some procs were not activating unless I equipped disjuncted handwraps (cheating?).

Anyway it was easy early on; late heroics, it got rough and I finished with explorers (last clip was my toon looking out from a peak in the Storm Horns).

In the middle of the run Reaper was plopped messily onto the community, so I missed out on the Sealed in Amber reaper pt cheesing lol.
