What is your least favourite epic wilderness area?

kmoustakas, you should start another discussion for best explorer area and why. It's been done before but this place could use some positive thinking. Oh, wait. She's already around. Positive vibes. Positive energy. Sunlight. Rainbows. Kittens. Like that.

Kings Forest - only go for the quests or the endless-spawn boss.
Underdark and Sschindylryn - only go for the quests, never to do slayers or explorers - although at one point I've crawled through both.

Therefore, by proclamation, and the power vested in me, I Bouncyboy hereby declare Kings Forest, the Underdark and Sschindylryn the least enjoyable epic wilderness areas in DDO. So say'eth me, and so it shall be from hence forth.

huh. your right. do u count devil battlefield as epic?
For this specific reason on my original post, I specified 'epic wilderness' as wilderness that you can't enter if you are under level 20 to avoid confusion for the purposes of this forum topic. So no devil battlefield, no subterrane, no heroic stormhorns etc. I see no actual point in talking about heroic wilderness themselves as there is too much heroic xp to actually care about any of them even though I really like a lot. I started playing when rats and wagons at level 12-13 was a thing (or bats and spiders) but that was over a decade ago.

Edit: Actually I do have a point about heroic wilderness (all wilderness actually). Remove maximum level from them but that's my oppinion and I'm sure everyone will tell me why it's wrong.

I would love to but that's not how the internet works! (lol)

Love me some gianthold, my fav in epics, love the dragons!!

I like feywild, for the art as well.

Next in line would be saltmarsh, great area to run around in.

All of them are fairly lit up and bot to dark and gloomy.

Rainbows and kittens!

Saltmarsh, Feywild, and Isle of Dread are good for sentient food, named drops, and tyrannosaurus teeth ( which oddly do not grow on Tyrannosauruses ) So you're not just earning character XP when you run them.
& yet there’s still no reason for the low cap on slayers

Epic gianthold wilderness is not good. The dragons are awesome and carry everything along with them (also there are a couple of areas with lots of mobs in them). It could have used a few more dragons and a few less humanoid rares.

Yes yes, I go there in random parts of the ETR cycle when I'm bored just to look for dragons. It's also what I do in king's forest, I go to the two dragon locations while someone was running the grim. RIP.

Probably Myth Drannor. It looks nice, but it's just, well, boring.

Yeah MD is my least favourite. It's just pointlessly big for no apparent reason.

But maybe they'll do something more with it in time.

Agreed. I think those dev resources would have been better spent elsewhere, like adding more variety to the quests instead of more of the same.

Neverwinter takes the best approach to the size of their wilderness areas IMO - scaled down but really packed with elements.

Sometimes I think DDO developers take map development too literally.

Demonweb too - only go for the quests, never for slayers, rares, explorers.
LOL, so all the bad wilderness areas are in the Forgotten Realms, Faerûn?

In a tabletop D&D game, we don't have that many monsters; so the current implementations are pretty much accurate.

I understand as a MMO DDO has to adapt to the number of players and such..., but we got transportation? Horses, Unicorns, Carpets and Stormclouds (soon); and also teleportation (some wilderness only)

Very difficult to rank. Smaller size, more teleports, and more straight-line access makes them better. King's Forest is bad for being large, but otherwise okay. Cogs is terrible for the lack of straight-line access (you have to take specific paths to get everywhere). Wheelon is bad because it can be confusing navigating the path to quests (particularly mirror). Stormhorns is bad for requiring such a long walk to the North teleport and only paid access until you visit it once. Demonweb is annoying for having to reset the instance over and over again until the bridge to the first quest appears because running to that quest without the bridge is not easy (once again, no straight-line access). Underdark is bad for the complicated path to belly of the best.

Ravenloft is obviously the best for allowing us to easily teleport to every quest. Searing heights isn't bad for having pretty easy straight-line access.

All the bad ones can easily be fixed by simply having Ravenloft-style teleporters to each quest.

I do not enjoy wilderness areas because they waste my time. The worst ones are terrain mazes with terrible maps and quests locked behind long, winding paths littered with dozens of annoying enemies. The Demon Web, the King's Forest, the Storm Horns, Wheloon Prison, and the Underdark are some of the worst. My nomination for absolute worst is the Cogs. That one is not only long and horrible to navigate, some of the enemies are very dangerous. I avoid all areas just listed, skipping all associated quests.
I read this after posting and it appears we have nearly the exact same taste (except I run every quest every life whether I like the area or not). I dislike all the same areas for the same reason and Cogs has been my least favorite since I first ran it as well. Unless you know it well it is far too easy to get lost and die. It's a big wilderness with only a few small paths you can actually take if you want to get to the quests. The rest is a death trap you are supposed to avoid.

The airships was a huge fail. They removed mobs in the area they spanwed, their own spawned mobs didn't count and their 'circles on the ground' tech was so undertested (untested) they instakilled everyone. I hear they event wanted to have an 'airship slayer' like the dragon slaying in epic gianthold.
They learned their lesson from Grim Disturbance to not have endlessly spawning monsters in a slayer area that count for kills, but they didn't learn the right lesson (which is simply not to ever have endlessly spawning monsters, while still having every monster count for kills).

I would love for every wilderness area to have double the number of quests they currently do. Like, I know high road is technically a different area, but why not have just put those in KF or SH.

My biggest grief is lack of quest density, not lack of mob density.

I love that cerulean hills finally has some quests. I'd love for new quests to end up in existing wilderness areas before creating new, empty maps.
I'd really rather just see quests done like Vecna (all in town) and have slayers exist for people that want to slay. When I am looking for quests, I don't want to run anywhere.
