I am not trying to stir up trouble here or put words in anyone's mouth but I think the discussion demands a reminder that you can have "our side and the other side" without it being a race thing

I think some tropes from the Old Guard of DnD should survive and I am definitely not suggesting we hug it out at the top of every dungeon run but I do think some things should be left behind, too

Besides, if every drow had to be evil aligned from birth we wouldn't get drizzt. Getting to be the exceptional member who chooses good despite being raised into a particularly cruel or evil society is heroic and cool.

I believe shadar kai is closer to half elf, not an actual elf. But honestly, most of the races in d&d are elves. So no elves is pretty sparse for selection, unless they bump up to 5.0 from 3.5 versions.
