I keep thinking back to the first life that felt super right, and for me it was right after Sacred Fist came out. I designed a build around monk’s Abundant Step, which really worked out, because apparently I just love movespeed. I was thrilled to be using Maetrim’s builder for the first time, and I was amazed at how much charisma synergy I could find in Sacred Fist (and how much thematic stuff could center around light damage, fire damage, sun stance, Divine Crusader, etc.).

This was after my first attempt at an ultimate DPS build - daggers and swashbuckling was my first try - but this time after deciding I needed saves, defenses in addition to DPS if I actually wanted to solo legendary R2.

The result? I was amazed to find that I could solo R2! Actually, the whole life, all through heroics, I was amazingly pleased with my speed, power, and style. And once I found Goldcursed, I could even sit comfortably in R4 solo and higher.

I’m curious what life comes to mind for you!

I usually do a unique build for each race as I work through the racial past lives. In the case of the Drow and Gnome past lives I did the same build: Bastard Sword wielding Artificer. My group did up to reaper 2 as we ran the game up to 30 before reincarnating. I enjoyed being the front line fighter/trapper/healer for the party :D SOoo versatile. Also I enjoyed playing through the human past lives as a 1-rogue/19-cleric-(Knowledge Domain) that could heal the party, crowd control (YES it is possible to crowd control with a divine caster!) and work traps :D

Bearbarian for the puns.
Fire sorc for aoe damage.
Wiz insta kill to compete in kills and wait to see a melee reach a mob to kill it right away.
Bow ranger.
Control and singer bard.
Archer.
Pure FVS healer. Just love it.

The most boring lifes: dwarf. fighter, warlock, inquisitor (even if it have good damage it's boring to play)

Love this answer! Major, versatile, front-line party support seems a lot of fun!

Stepping into the wayback, 13/6/1 rogue/monk/druid quarterstaff build when Druid first dropped. Shillelagh for the extra +1w when that was more meaningful, light path for a non-trivial amount of healing, and stout oak walking stick. I think I learned to carry two spares because of how fragile those could be. Epic Nat Gann for silver DR breaking. A DPS machine prone to getting shredded if I wasn’t really careful to avoid aggro. But so much fun.

Yea it's a shame how +W effects were nerfed into the ground

Love it. Do you still play Archmage? Do you play at cap?
Absolutely. The current Archmage build is focused on CC this lifetime, and will be hanging around at cap long enough for my two Guildies and I to finish Chill of Ravenloft. After that, it'll be reincarnation time so that we can reset the quests and go after first time Reaper XP all over again.

Blaster Flameclensed Fury Warlock... having been doing racials since I played it for the first time... it will be already almost 25 consecutive lifes so far.

Had a FVS Arcane Archer that focused on terror arrows and CC procs back when doubleshot was still affecting procs. It had a rate of 60% CC per shot, 100% during manyshot and the DCs on the terror arrows were at 131. I just improved precise shot my way through dungeons CCing everything and proccing PKs and killing red names with Hunts End + Slaying Arrow. Not to mention it had good synergy with FVS due to high DCs and high fire spell power for imbue and free wisdom to damage and wisdom trance through FVS. Unfortunately it got nerfed to the ground by both the proc change and the Hunts End change.
