What's the next class you feel should get an archetype?

It's been 20 years now, let's finally tackle the old missing spear/polearm weapons with a new specialist class. Go with the Troy movie's spear & shield, and Game of Thrones series' acrobatic spear dancing a la "The Mountain and the Viper". Throw in a few javelin throws, with returning weapons of course.

Barbarian almost certainly "needs" an archetype or two. Battlerager may be a bit beyond reasonable scope (the "proper" mods to armor make it unlikely, IMNSHO).

If they choose to lean a bit further into Forgotten Realms lore, howzabout an Icewind Dale Barbarian [human] with focus upon axes OR hammers (OR maybe spears for the jungle-fied variant-lover).
** Two-sided enhancement tree(s) ("Hammers to the left of me, axes to the right, lost in the yeti again"... [VeryBygEvylGryn]).
** Wilderness Lore, but focused upon either cold or hot (functioning at half benefit in the opposite) based upon chosen origin
** for the associated iconic, begins play with BtC upgradeable soul-bound weapon (pick ONE axe or hammer [ETC], bubba!); using any other weapon type is done with non-proficiency, AND even if same type, a small penalty if not of the same "form". Frex, if the icon-weapon is a battleaxe, our IconHero has a small penalty with other melee axe types AND with thrown axes; any non-axe is wielded non-proficiently.
...
ETC.

=====

On a parallel / closely-related want-list: to "properly" introduce spears & distinctive polearms of other types (halberds can KINDA be thought of as variant great-axe already), I'd very much like to see some form of MOUNTED combat. Can't whip up a proper desert-dwelling barbarian warrior without his/her horse/camel/ostrich, now can we? ... and many of the MOST archetypical / iconic heros & heroines lean pretty darn heavily upon their favorite mounts. If the devs can do airships & soar-sleds, the basic code is already "there" -- and keeping it ground-bound removes a whole layer of complexity already!

Favored Soul - seconded.
and maybe Wizard - third.

Echo'ing all the other posters: no point in doing another caster archetype unless they fix caster damage first.

I'd like to see a healing archetype or a healing iconic race. Sacred Fist doesn't count - and giving Sacred Fist the radiant servant tree remains one of their bigger mishaps when it comes to archetypes, imo. We also have no true healing iconic race whatsoever - PDK is most used and it's to boost hamp/damage of party, not healing.

Otherwise, a Barb/Wizard iconic would be cool. But I'll keep plugging for cool healers.

I would expect SSG to do the last two F2P class archetypes before moving onto the P2P classes. Arcane Trickster is a caster Archetype then I'd guess barbarian is next. Unless they finally give us MUSCLE WIZARD of course. 💪

I was hoping the barbarian Archetype would coincide with Duergar's release and include buffs for CON builds. Maybe a tanky Archetype which gets the Vanguard tree?

mystic theurge gets arcane and divine spells, so self healing wizard with deathward fom etc cycling through fod pk destruction, wail and implosion. sounds op but still cant kill a redname
So an Arcane class that already has a ton of spells, and can already self heal... Would get divine spells that dont work off the same system a Wizard normally uses, and thus wouldn't have any synergy with the other Wizard trees. Sounds like a complete disaster... I'm sure SSG will find that both hilarious and appealing for that very reason. Lets do it !

In case you're curious about the 3.5 version: Mystic Theurge

You get the same basic effect with The Wild Mage and Arcane Trickster Enhancements making caster level equal to character level, so in a sense we already have it

can't play a PDK because the character models are just awful, and I don't want to have to stare at it.

I know what it is... The point I was making is that the feats / gearing required for an arcane caster are incompatible with divine spells. Making the Wizard's generalist build even more thinly stretched out to meet the DC requirements of those Divine spells. Its why for the same reason that a melee based Wizards isn't really a thing. Sure there are valid EK builds, but they do give up a fair bit of their casting potential to be able to melee. Thus as cap, we're likely to see a Theurgest mage as an underwhelming disappointment in comparison to just about everything else in the game.

The idea would be to have int-based divine spells as arcane spells on the Wizard list. So it would take no more stretching to meet the DC requirements than investing in evocation, necromancy, and enchantment, which you usually want on a Wizard anyway.

Personally I think having all the divine CC and IKs, plus the ability to heal a raid, on top of the arcane spell list would be quite powerful and fun.

Divine spells still have the same schools, and as an archetype it would avoid the split casting stat.

I really don't see how gearing would be worse, but I do notice that divines barely have any Enchantment spells, and a lot more evocation and conjuration. What really undercuts the idea of Mystic Theurge as an archetype in DDO is that there aren't enough differences in the spellbook, and even fewer are viable, so you end up just adding a few more spells that do the same thing and go even deeper on specialization.
-Evocation gets Celestial Bombardment, Divine Wrath, Implosion, and Firestorm added to it's top-end spell rotation, and if you're already running meteor swarm there's not any more regearing than using the same swap item for Divine wrath as you do for Sunburst.
-Necromancy comes out even further ahead, since you have heighten. Add Slay Living, Destruction, and the Inflict- spells. Unfortunately, that probably means MT would have to replace the PM tree to avoid just being a better PM, even though thematically it should be giving up Eldritch Knight
-Conjuration is the next largest group of divine spells, but only because healing is typed as Conjuration. The only other gain here is Cometfall, which would be nice to have, but unless you're already pushing conjuration saves for some other reason, gaining healing isn't doing much for Wizard.

The real problem is that even if casters get fixed, the thing that really matters in DDO is what SLAs they would get. DDO just isn't the game that rewards versatility over specialization and how much power you can layer on a single action.
