Whether or Not to Build on Cormyr

I wish I knew what the plan was for the servers...

If the current servers are going to be replaced by (maybe fewer) x64 servers, then eventually, all my toons/stuff on Khyber will be on Cormyr if that is the server I pick. Therefore, why should I be motivated to build anything on Cormyr now?

I am asking because I see people buying tomes and other things on Cormyr now, and I am thinking about doing the same. However, it seems like a waste as I could just spend that on Khyber.

For me atm, Cormyr is like the original HC servers. Get the rewards and done.

If all you want is the Lantern event awards, then your plan to spend your DDO Points on Khyber is probably good enough.

Several people I know, in Pay It Forward and other guilds on Cormyr, are making Cormyr their home server now. For such people, and I'm thinking there are more than just a few, the expenditure for tomes, esp with 75% off Supreme 8 Tomes, is worthwhile.

To me it's a matter of choice, and which choice you make is up to you. :)

Cormyr is a fresh start VIP only server with no transfers in nor out. They've mentioned that if things go well and the performance gains from the 64bit server are worth the costs, they'd open other 64bit worlds where transfer would happen. So your toons/stuff on Khyber might eventually be on a new 64bit server but it wouldn't be Cormyr.

Thank you for your input.

Even if that holds true down the road, I do not see myself investing in Cormyr. If they continue do Cormyr-only events, then I will play during the event if it is worth it to me. Otherwise, I will spend my money on Khyber. Mostly b/c those toons have items that no longer drop in the game and other uniques.

My original, first point is still that I wish we had more info about the plans for the servers and maybe a preliminary timeline.

A timeline would be nice, but I do get the impression that of late things have been two steps forward, one step back, or even just one step back of late. Asking for a timeline might be a little too ambitious @ this point (not unreasonable though). 🙁

While I am playing on Cormyr, it is not my primary and will not be my home server. With that being said, I may spend a little on Cormyr, but only just. The lions share will be going to my primary home on Argo.

On 11/15 in the DDO Discord Severlin said, "There is no reason why we can't eventually have normal transfers off (but not on) Cormyr. I pictured Cormyr as a permanent server and wasn't planning on having the free large scale transfers off like Hardcore because it isn't meant to be a temporary server, but I will discuss with the team." LINK

He continued, "I can't answer that until we have a Cormyr server that is far and away better in terms of lag and we can justify the large hardware expense. If next week goes well and we feel that the performance improvement is there then the plan would be to open up new 64 bit servers with transfer enabled, sometime in Spring? No promises." LINK

It's been a couple weeks since he said that, but I'm guessing the plan hasn't changed. They will continue to work on things with an eye towards moving off the 32-bit infrastructure to the 64-bit one. There's a lot that has to be done from now until then, so if/when that happens is anyone's guess. On the latest Fridays at Four, Cordovan said work on the 2025 Producer's Letter has begun, and odds are they will lay out plans more clearly there. (Do note that not everything that's in the Producer's Letter comes to fruition.)

It's up to you how/where/when you spend your money.

Cormyr will stay as it is. No transfers in.
Might someday transfer out due to VIP access issues.

If you aren't attached to another server and keep VIP might as well pick the 64bit one.

However who is a dedicated VIP without a home server already?
