Which Quests Feel Most Epic?

Not in terms of actual level, but just as a feeling of grandeur and accomplishment.

Misery's Peak fills the bill for me. It seems a fitting end to our first phase of game life.

What Goes Up also get a nod. It just feels like the stakes are high. Immeasurably helped by the driving soundtrack.

The Strahd rais also feels a fitting end to our Barovian adventures.

What do you think? What are your favorite "epic" quests. They do not have to be chain cappers.

this might be an unpopular opinion, but my favorite quest is and always has been haunted halls of evening star. you can spend an hour or you can spend 6 minutes and either way it feels very "epic." all the optionals, all the awesome and unique mechanics and traps, and the cool bosses that are like no other. this quest is such a great quest in all ways and its even a pnp module. this is, to me, the perfect quest design but one that should not be replicated. if anything, U21 with TH/HHoES is probably my favorite update ever in terms of quest content and I didn't even play then. temple of the deathwyrm is my favorite raid, and I think it qualifies for being the most "epic" quest in the game

The first that comes to mind for me is Tempest Spine. I'll always remember how it felt running it for the first time as a noob. Major goosebumps.

Second would be Lord of Blades. That dude was the badest mofo in the game when the quest came out. Learning how to tank in there was no joke.

And third would be Riding the Storm Out. Love how your life feels threatened at all time in there. Sure is the definition of epic.

I'd have to think for the non-raid quests.

Oh it was a minor masterpiece of a quest, great fun to explore and find all the things.

I've also got a soft spot for The Dreaming Dark, where there'll be extra dialogue based on having completed certain other quests, it gives that great sense of your own character being involved in big events. It'd be awesome if something like this could be added again.

In terms of a feeling of grandeur/accomplishment I'd say -

Caught in the Web - not a great raid but concludes the long MotU arc
What Goes Up - epic ascent to a mountaintop
Curse of Strahd - concludes Strahd arc
Skeleton in the Closet - big hand, big scary dino
Beyond the Rift - connects the two worlds, brings you to the Forgotten Realms and you have the big Eveningstar reveal afterwards
Titan Awakes - Simply because it's so cryptic and punishing. If doing it at level and not one shot cheesing the Titan. Pillars are stressful since they don't respawn, messing up the pillars means having to redo the whole Twilight Forge raid.
VoN 6 - Very epic, looking down from space. Also the threat of falling and getting booted out of the raid.
In The Flesh - the endfight is really challenging and unique, good sense of accomplishment if you beat it on a challenging difficulty at level.
Temple of the Deathwyrm - Just a long raid with challenging mechanics
Gwylan's Stand - big open area adventure, good adventure feel. Maybe it's just nostalgia but this quest has always been memorable for me.

I'm still nostalgic of (all of) Shavarath back when cap just increased to 20. After all the years of fighting back the various devil invasions on Stormreach and Eberron, we finally make a real counterattack, invading their territory to fight back. We were not fighting super-rats, we were fighting devil generals leading large armies. It felt EPIC!

Other ones I've always enjoyed for their epic feel and scope include:

What Goes Up (stopping an invading army by crashing their glacial airship into a mountain)
Plane of Night (fighting a dragon in space)
Spinner of Shadows (trying to stop a demon lord from escaping their prison only to witness the arrival of a bigger baddy that tears a rift in the fabric of our universe)
Ascension Chamber (culmination of a long story leading to stopping a lich from ascending to godhood)
Stealer of Souls (you witness subjugated dragons die by having their souls consumed as you try to stop the ritual doing that to them)

Honorable mentions for Killing Time, The Shroud, The Curse of Strahd.

In all of my picks, imo, it feels like you are actually participating in massive and important events. You're not just doing another fight with enemies with big numbers, or watching some NPC take credit for your actions (or watching/waiting as they do the important things), but actually participating in and taking actions that have impact, in an epic way with epic visuals and music to back them up.

Hmm I'll agree WGU has an epic feel, not the least of which for that end visual of the crash against the mountain.

Chronoscope, especially the way it begins and the way it ends with the tent disintegrating has a monumental feel.
White Plume Mountain (primarily for the Giant Crab fight) and to a lesser extent the Price of Freedom for its Prison-escape genre and sheer scope. (I don't even like that quest.)

I'll say they missed a major opportunity with Immortality Lessons... it could have felt truly epic if we had been able to climb that ice stairway and had the adventure included more of the outside of the castle the way you can go in and outside the Prison in Price of Freedom or outside the glacier in WGU really, and truly adds to the immersion.

The Final Enemy had moments of epicness as did Rest for the Night, and Swim at your own Risk.
Captive of the Hidden God, easily epic with the first real sight of Vecna.
Parts of Temple of Elemental Evil feel very epic, I happen to personally like it better now that its in bite size pieces.
Into the Deep still feels special even with new underwater quests available.
Plane of Night is perhaps one of the most epic experiences in the game even still, and a landmark experience for every new player.
Invitation to Dinner cannot be overlooked. Sealed in Amber still has a very epic atmosphere despite alterations to the quest. Sunrise as a prelude to the Strahd Raid has moments that feel epic.
Of course the Strahd raid is mind-blowing... but also has moments of really? really?! (stairs)

Diplomatic Impunity has that moment when you look down on the beach and see the invading force... if only they had done something with that as an optional in the Legendary version. Not enough to count I suppose. Likewise as fun as it is to blow up ships in Blockade Buster and Tide Turns, the whole of those quests don't feel particularly epic.

Gianthold Tor still feels epic, primarily for the optional dragon fights and to a lesser degree Prison of the Planes.
Subversion
and all of Necro4 feel epic.
In the Flesh, I mean that end fight is an experience unto itself.
Desire in the Dark, Three Paths to Battle, Beyond the Rift, and some parts of Sharn such as Reach for the Sky very epic either for atmosphere or situation.

Beyond level 16 there is more that feels epic than doesn't and I don't want to list that much.

I agree with What Goes Up. Easily one of my favourite quests, from the flow to the intense chaotic fight (at elite/reaper difficulty) and the great soundtrack. The only thing I'd change is to mute the Shadowfell visual effect.

And also Haunted Halls - and I'll say again what I've said multiple other times; I wish that particular quest would be overhauled to legendary with modern loot. Where it is now, it just sits at an awkward level range and the loot is completely outdated, which is a shame for such a unique quest. Bump it up to level 35/36, and there'll be a reason to run it even if just for the RXP all the way to level 40.

What do you think?
Original Hold for Reinforcements. You felt Epic the first time you succeeded in getting the idiot to survive.

Joking aside (mostly): What Goes Up. It's my first choice whenever I think of awesome quests. I've always wondered if it shouldn't have been a raid since it's better than many of the raids in this game. It's very visually impressive too.

Haunted Halls for me. I would love to see them add it to Legendary....I think it would get run alot. Right now it is at a level range that does not reward players to run it.

I also always liked Tear of Dhakaan. Was cool back in the old days making sure you had Str/Wis/Intel covered. Felt like a real Dungeon Crawl. Running the optionals were actually worth the trouble. Ditto for Jungle of Khyber.

There are many great suggestions in the posts above but for choosing 1 specific quest I would say doing a full run of the original TOEE part 2. While this can't be run now that it has been split into 5 separate quests I still miss the old quest.

For quests that are still run I would say Twilight Forge. That is because when reaper was new I was part of a 4 man group at level that was able to conquer it and also defeat the Titan in The Titan Awakes. (Shout out to Fordperfect, Docsin, I still can't remember the 4th unnamed hero and I on Seldissan.)

love the Redwillow shoutout, there. Despite being relatively basic i think it might be my top one... worldbuilding that hints at something larger but is a story for someone else (out of game). Hit my imagination more than it probably deserves. I wonder if the barrel is hidden away properly a-la the Indiana Jones' Lost Arc.

Surprised no one mentioned Haverdasher... You never know from where those scorpions will pop out. Still waiting for the legendary lvl 34 version, seems rats, oozes, and scorpions make great epic and legendary mobs...

We used to do a use what you loot Tempest Spine, and using the loot wasn't optional. Wizard that loots heavy armor, have fun. Start the quest swinging a SOS, well switch to that light hammer you tried to leave in the chest. It could make for some interesting fights near the end, at least when the cap was 10-12.
