The harbinger of madness arc is one of my go to quests for TTRPG. It has everything that a game/story needs. It starts with a simple premise of missing people and then moves to a layered mystery, some interesting monsters and mini bosses with a final climatic boss fight. Add in facts that one of the missing people is a friend/family member whose ring you find on on one of the changed to give it that personal touch with hints of revenge all adds to the story. Have it that you later find your friend sans ring only for them to change in front of you adds to the nightmare.

Are there any other quests that have been inspirational for pen and paper games? Any quests that you would want to try to replicate as is in dnd?

Shortly after Dryad and the Demigod released, I made a boss who would insult the players at the top of the turn order in a battle of the bands style arena setting, where characters were on hot mic speaking stones after their music battle dissolved into combat. They would have 30 seconds to create the best comeback, then continue to fight using normal DND rules. If it was good or roleplayed well, the crowd would turn to their side, offering a buff to the party for that turn.

I think Mira's Sleepless Nights would make an excellent one shot, personally. Finding Canton Parthilcar's journal before fighting him at the end was a cool moment for me.

quests, quest chains, or sagas? And since quite a few of all of those have sampled actual adventures in the real game, it may have already been done.

Death House would make an excellent horror movie. Fresh Baked Dreams would be a superb PnP adventure. The narrative of Times Long Past screams PnP. Every adventure - Crown of Ancient Glory comes to mind, where PCs go back and forth through time is amazing. Enemy of my Enemy would be perfect for any campaign that features the Emerald Claw or similar organization. For raids, Vault of Night has something of Ocean's Eleven to it - but with a dragon. And the lore is rich for Temple of the Deathwyrm.

Death House from Ravenloft is one my son and his friends did. Funnily enough they ran straight to the top with the intention to work their way down.

They enjoyed it a lot.
