Who else is sort starting to get depressed by the idea of saying goodbye to old home servers and alts?

So with the formal announcement and timeline having been issued, I started going through the various servers, accounts, and alts, trying to combine and decide on who's coming and who I'm saying goodbye to, as I can't bring everybody. I've been playing for almost 18 years now, and I have 2 accounts, with many alts on every server, with Cannith being my current home. But I started on Thelanis, and I logging onto Thelanis for the first time in years. I know I have alts there I'd been wanting to transfer to Cannith, just not bad enough to spend the $$$ for before now... Level cap the last time I actively played on Thelanis was 20, so I'm starting to look through their inventories for things that are still relevant, useful items, and the nostalgia hit hard looking at the once treasured, hard fought for raid items that now seem to be worthless trinkets now. I've been thinking a lot about a number of old stories, of good times once had in these places, and I had to log off...

Overall, I know this is a great thing, the fact a almost 20 year old game actually bothered to invest in a server upgrade, and we will make new memories on our new home servers, but it's very difficult to say "This character is no longer relevant, time to delete."

It’s more old (Euro/Asia) friends leaving for Moonsea for me.

Kinda like the end of LoTRs:

I don't know how the guildship thing works but I have seen it mentioned multiple times. Has the original guildship been deleted? if its still on ghall why don't you reachout to SSG and try to regain ownership of it? recall this freebie transfer opportunity allows you to transfer guildships too so you could endup with TWO guildships on the same 64bit server

I wish the devs had encouraged servers to head to specific new ones so people have a greater chance to see each other still. We lost folks from Cannith when Orien transfers appeared. Same idea.

Yeah, I really only play on one server... but everyone is moving to one of three new places. So there are a lot of people I've played with on and off who I'll never see again.

I have the sad, and I'm frustrated that we need to have so many new servers. ESO can have everyone on one server, but little old DDO needs 3 in north america? Really?

The server means nothing, and I pared myself down to 1 main and 4 mules years ago.

I found embracing my alt-itus breathed new life into the game.
And both are fine. Whatever works for you. I gave up on some alts so I'm playing only 2 characters and rotating, though one needs a little more work than the other right now. I don't do heroic lives unless I'm changing a build, so both only have 7 assorted heroic, iconic and racial lives. One has 24 epics, but the other only has 7, so I'll be Epic TRing him this week while keeping the other at cap to raid and such.

There’s a little nostalgia at the thought of migration, but the game has really put pressure on altoholism. So the abandoned characters will not really be a big deal.

I think I’m going to be able to bring along everyone who I’ve got memories of from the old Khyber drunk raid nights plus a handful of alts that I had big plans for in my original guild. So at least that holds some maudlin feelings at bay.

A bit more somber - I had some pretty well curated friends lists for both positive and negative reasons. Most of them stopped playing along the way so the tag in the friends list is the last lingering reminder. Pouring one out

Honestly, I don't get sentimental about my 'home'. I make friends. I lose friends. I make friends. My guild has had 3 successful revivals on Sarlona. We were popular. We were endgame. We were generous and friendly. Those were good days. They're gone now. I'm a retired adventurer. Looking for one last hoorah in place that hopefully has fresh spirit. New faces and of course: Fun. Goodbye yellow brick road.

I passed the guild to my only other guild member active at the time, still log in for gold rolls, but he havent been consistantly on Ghall for a year, last two weeks he was on, but if hes not on when the migration starts, i will have to upsurp and maybe transfer out to god knows where and two 2k shard ships is kinda wasteful on one server, as I barely lvl the ships up, I might just have to regain the 108 lvl ship and transfer the 78 ship out.

I play with my friends, and will go where they go. What the server is called and what kind of hardware it is is irrelevant. Looking forward to less lag and lower latency on Moonsea, leaving Ghallanda and Orien means nothing to me 😇

5 Other People

all the voices in my head are my own
change makes many people anxious/wistful, but this migration seems to be shaping up nicely...many folks in US headed to Thane others to Moonsea. if the majority of folks follow this trend, then the only loss will be between US & EU...so, if you know you have buddies in a server that is not ideal for you or you sometimes play at odd times, then send an alt to the other server.

the benefits for the majority of folks will outstrip the costs.
