The entire IoD storyline makes little sense, in fact you are not stranded there with no way to leave as Vecna keeps repeating.

I mean you are stranded in both Ravenloft and IoD until you finish the quests *in the story*. Its an MMO, they cannot just make you literally stranded there. Its a gameplay thing, not a lore thing.
