Why can't I buy stuff in the DDO store that I already have?

My main already has a +8 tome. I'd like to buy one for an alt. But I can't buy a BTA tome because my main already has one? Why?

Yeah, I can log off my main, log on the alt and then get the thing. But why? Its BTA, I should be able to buy one even if the toon buying it already has one. I can buy XP pots all day long on my main even if I have one already. They're BTA.

This is just another example of SSG not having a clue.

It's saved me from a big-purchase goof at least once, so i think it's more about protecting the lowest common denominator from having to put in support tickets (which yes, is me).

Sorry :<

I think it is to protect them from someone buying a second +8 tome and complaining that they only have 1 Alt and now they have +8 tome they can't use and it's all SSG's fault, or someone buying their 53rd +8 tome and crying that they only have 52 character slots what are they going to do with the 53rd tome.

Just because you run multiple Alts doesn't mean everyone does. I have seen people moaning that things are too expensive when it includes something for every character or even an extra character slot because they only play one Alt and do not intend playing anymore so they are paying for things they won't use etc etc.

The literal answer is so that one does not accidentally purchase something that they already possess and cannot use. They could go through and filter out this that and the other thing that can be shared among alts but that's a waste of time. If you are going to use a tome on a toon you will have to log onto that toon so just do it and move on. Many problems with DDO, this is a you problem.

Not really, it's a problem with SSG, who are the sellers and who are interested in people buying. We've had this bug for over a year now, where the show all button doesn't work. And throughout this year there are people who haven't been able to buy because their character didn't have the right level for an item (how absurd), for example, so your "switch to alt" statement doesn't work there.

Bugs need to be fixed, not excused. It's SSG who should really be interested in a functional store. For us, a buggy store ends up saving money: we spend it elsewhere.

With all due respect, your answers make no sense and the OP is right.

There is a button to show all content regardless of whether your character can use it or not, and IT DOESN'T WORK. It hasn't worked since the store revamp. Come on SSG, you've had over a year to fix this. Don't you want to sell?
Exactly. I clicked on that thinking it would show me. It doesn't. How hard is it?

You know what? I stand corrected. My reason was copium and I should know better than to give such good-faith credit.
Well, you're right. I guess that's why the "show all" button is disabled by default. The problem is that that button doesn't work, and it's been a long time since the store revamp. There have been many bug reports about it. And it still hasn't been fixed. That's the frustrating thing.

The assumed reason is so people don't buy stuff they already have and get big sad.

Another (unstated) reason is to prevent VIPs from slowly purchasing content then cancelling...you simply cannot see most adventure packs so you can't get them *until* you cancel which is a much bigger leap.

The complaint was about not being able to purchase a +8 tome that had already been used by toon. This is to prevent someone from buying items they cannot use on the toon and then having a fit about it and blaming DDO for their mistake. If you don't understand this you are one who would make this mistake and then blame DDO.
