Why do beginners give up the game? Why so few players?

I am trying to understand the haters. A guy giving feedback is fine, but the people that actually hate this game and celebrate when someone uninstalls it why are you even here? If you hate the game so much you want to encourage other people not to play it why not just go play other games? I don't like WoW, but I am not all over their forums telling everyone to uninstall and how much WoW sucks and cheering when someone quits playing. Just being trolls? -Says in deep voice.- New troll here? =p
I like your premise on which people should be on the forums , the people actually playing the game or the people obviously not playing the game. Clearly a forums of people not playing the game makes most sense !

This person was never interested in playing the game, we all knew that from post 1.

Some people just enjoy playing the forum game vs DDO

Even though I no longer play DDO, I thought it was useful to have created this post here so that the developed would take into account the opinions of those who feel attracted to this game, but give up and leave without informing the developers. what attracts and what drives away new players. I think this is the value of this post. Show what can be improved in a game that has a respected name and was certainly made with care by the original developers. I and many others would love to continue playing DDO if it weren't for some intolerable reasons... some of which I've already mentioned here, where the main reason that kept me away from this game was this, which I posted at this link:

The second reason, the third, the fourth and the fifth, are the ones I described in this topic, which are the lack of mana, ruinous enchantments, misinformation in the instructions for all things and a DDO WIKI site that manages to cause more misinformation than it informs . Furthermore, of course, the game is not immersive due to all this misinformation, forcing the player to leave the game (losing immersion) to find out more on the internet. For example, I've been playing Tibia since 2004. Do you know how many times I had to go to the Tibia forum in search of information? Zero. To this day I don't even know what the game's official forum is like. The game chat is fun. We can talk about everything within the game. While DDO is a tomb. To conclude, if developers want to attract a new audience and retain them, they must pay attention to the following:

What I'm about to say sounds silly, but this is very serious in this game. I particularly found the game's introduction adorable. I really loved it. With that trio of NPCs guiding us on the first mission. And the city of Korthos is lovely to play in. Really a great start. Rating 10!

The big problem happens when we arrive in Harbor. It's all so confusing, with so many options, with a map so full of details, that we, newcomers, feel like country bumpkins arriving in a big city.

Arriving at The Harbor is truly a shock for new players. It's scary, due to the fact that it's the opposite of Korthos's simplicity. Harbor should introduce the new features little by little, city by city. Not like this, suddenly throwing thousands of tools into the hands of a novice.

I know that it is impossible to make any update that would correct this, but if these companies that control this game are interested in creating a new game with the same ideas in the future, I believe that these observations I am making here should be taken into consideration.

As for the qualities of this game that must be maintained, they are so obvious that I didn't even bother to praise them, but it is truly a pleasure to play dungeons where we have to discover the way alone, full of mysteries, puzzles, and monsters with a really fun AI. and well crafted. DDO's combat surpasses that of any RPG I've ever played. The only problem is that the monsters are too weak, taking some of the fun out of combat. The sound effects and the music and the voice actors. Man...the voice actors are great! I know some of the voices from other games.

These professional voice actors add an extra touch of emotion to this game. I also think the graphic beauty is splendid. Sometimes I stopped to admire how many moons the game has at night, believe me. It's a beautiful game, without a doubt, and the entire team is to be congratulated. I just didn't like a few details that stopped me from continuing playing, but there's no doubt that DDO deserves respect! I didn't like playing, but I recognize the quality. Good games everyone!

Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback.

I do agree that we need some way to easily steer new players to new quests they can run - Stormreach is huge and can be very overwhelming when you're new.

Again, I believe I read something about this being considered, but I haven't heard about it in a while.

Yeah. It can be overwhelming when you're Casual and VIP (and buying expansions); OMG I still haven't run it all o_O

When I started in 2006, there was a player waiting to run the starter stuff (in the old Harbor) Don't remember their toon-name, but it was a WF and emoted (bowed, slept, danced, etc) in between the quests. Then we met other players in my guild and we rolled.. Much less content then.

It doesn't sound silly to me at all but then unlike many of the people arguing against your viewpoint in this thread I've actually tried to bring new players into this game to very limited success. It's simply not designed for the expectations of modern MMO players but then that's typical for the time period it came from, and it's only become progressively worse thanks to the seemingly shoestring budget that the company has to work with.

A chain quest that guides you through the Harbor quests starting with Baudry's and going in a rough circle around the zone with helpful tips shown in bright yellow below the narrative would go a long way. Bigby's Guiding Hands at various points that are visible to players on the chain would be a nice bonus but the chain alone would make a big difference.

Also realize the cost to $$ ratio may just not be feasible especially to grab like the 3 'true noobs' who accidentally download this game.

"wait a minute... this doesn't look like Baldur's Gate 3 ?!"

Things are way to expensive in this game. I feel that everything in the store should be obtainable in game. The only thing that should not be is the expansions and their enhancment trees / goodies. The other stuff should be obtainable. Permamant last through reincarnation inventory slots, extra character slots, xp potions, bigger quivers and bags, etc etc. I don't say it should be easy, but it should be possable. Go ahead and put it in the store for people who can't wait. Also unbind the stuff I do buy. If I buy the black hole of gem carrying then I should be able to toss it in my bank and let any of my alts on that server use it. Same with quivers. Make it account bound so I can't auction it, fine.

If they made everything obtainable in game, then they would lose money. Many people play this game for free, get expansions through ddo points earned in game. SSG needs to make money somehow to keep the game running. Yes, it would be nice to get those things for free however, there needs to be a balance somehow for them to make money and keep the game running.

No not necessarily. Commercial psychology is really weird. Take me for example - I have plenty of disposable income but refuse to give SSG any of it because they constantly try to Nickel and Dime us.
I waste money on a microsoft ultimate gamepass that I barely use but I dont mind as it is such incredible value.

I swear there is a hidden luck stat on toon creation; completely unconfirmed, but still it lingers.
There may be a grain of truth to this. My toon Seldissan on Thelanis has over the years had amazing luck. My first ever run thru Abbot I had the Quiver of Alacrity drop for me and I won the Seal of the Abott that was put up for role (so many people hated me ☹️). Then there was the run on Weapon's Shipment when 2 Mysterious Baubles dropped for me (this time people liked me since I already had one :)) and this was with 0 rerolls. There have been other good pulls also. On the flip side I never pulled a Jibber's Blade on Seldissan and have only pulled 2 ever (on other toons and the rest have been given to me).

You also are not taking into account a lot of peoples need for instant gratification. How many people buy the +8 tomes when you can get them for free because of the insane favor grind? Lets say you get a free , permamant inventory slot after 10k favor, I know there is not that much in the game it is just an example. How many people would grind that out as opposed to paying 5$ for it to have it now?

My point, and you knew this, was I should be able to go to say house Jorasco and buy greater slayer potions with platinum. I should be able to go to the coin lords and buy extra bank spaces the same way. Give me a reason to gain money. There isn't one at the moment. Give us a reason to spend those millions of platinum we collect.

Its not just that, it also relates to their mistreatment of their longterm loyal clientelle, and that impacts their reputation in circles of people that play the game. Both myself and my boyfriend have cancelled our auto resubbing and will not be subbing in the future due to the lack of respect for long term clients, for me its mostly because my boyfriend will give me an indefinite cold shoulder and silent treatment if I spend anymore money here and honestly i cant hold a grudge for him feeling that way.

I am fairly new to DDO. I acknowledge it has shortcomings, but I enjoy the complexity, team play and quite frankly how powerful I feel playing a wizard (I have a 2nd life L17 paletrapper). Between meta-ed SLAs and a very broad spell selection I find I have an answer to any content we come across. I played solo on first life, and guild teams on 2nd so far. Both have been fun.
I enjoy DDO so much that I invited a group of RL friends to join in February when the special offer came out and we now have a vibrant small guild.
