Why is it so difficult to create an account?

I was just able to create a new account with a twelve character password (Hello!World1). ...
I just had a flashback to learning BASIC back in the 80's when I saw your password (the first program many of us ever wrote). Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

Not everyone has the same problems with creating an account.

The thing is; NOONE should have ANY problems creating an account. That is a gigantic business failure in itself.

Just like having a barely functioning store with an awful UI...

You're never going to solve every single problem especially with a web-based interface because there are simply too many factors including and often especially the person who is having the problem. For example I know people who are still running Internet Explorer.

The first mistake I made was trying to use the down key on my keyboard to scroll through birth years, and encountered a bug where if that page sees an invalid birth date, even before submitting the form, it simply locks you out of creating an account.
That's not a bug, that's a feature! Looking at the dev tools, it gives you a cookie called "underage" which lasts for 2 days. After that you're presumably able to try again.

But yes, this feels needlessly aggressive, and off putting to a new customer who doesn't understand what's going on, nor know to work around the issue by using a different browser (or incognito).

I didn't have any trouble with the password when I tested it, other than the info being hidden in a tooltip.

First time I bought expansions for DDO I had to use chrome because DDO market wasn't working in firefox.

I always set my password to Incorrect!, that way if i get it wrong the website, games, etc tells me what my password is.

It appears that none of these issues have been addressed. After trying to create a secondary account this afternoon, you have to wonder how many new players this game is missing out on because of difficulties completing registration. Appears that there is some buggy form validation on date input, which makes the UI appear to accept the date, while responding with invalid once the form is submitted. Likewise, it appears that the criteria for what is considered a valid password differs from the listed instructions.

Over time, they've changed criteria. I have accounts that use symbols that you can't use to create accounts today. And, the creation criteria for passwords is different from the change criteria. You can make better passwords if you change them.

Last time I made accounts I used foolish passwords just to get them created then changed them afterwards.

I also routinely use a bad birthdate on any input form -- typically the oldest the form will permit. I wonder what the marketing folk think of age-demos that show 125y-olds playing the game, though.

It doesn't seem to bode well for the longevity of the game if they're unwilling to spend time to fix the process that all new players have to interact with to even begin playing it.
