Why only two months?

To the fine developers of DDO:

I wonder if you know your player demographic all that well. The game is 17 years old, the people that play it are at a minimum in their 20s and I would venture to guess average in their early to mid-30s if you took the entire population into consideration. Many if not most of us have work, significant others or spouses, children (who we have likely brought to DDO throughout the years), and a plethora of spring and summer to-dos.

I invite you to please reconsider this two-month Hardcore duration, and instead make it a three-month season. I get that you've nerfed the 5k favor requirement; regardless, I/we would love to have a chance to enjoy it, get deeper into the season, and give it the time it deserves. Furthermore, I imagine the guild leaders who invest their time and money resources into these seasons would love to get an extra 50% of time to sow what they have reaped.

Thank you for your reconsideration,

Your average age estimation is probably a decade or two low.

8 weeks is plenty of time.

Dont forget what this does to the game on the rest of the servers. Shorter is better especially with them making it so easy and lowering the requirements.

Hardcore was never supposed to be easy...its in the name. Step up or step back, but dont ask for easier buttons.

Probably shorter season for the same reason they disabled dice rolls during afterparty last season, they don't want you accumulating 3 months worth of rolls to import to your main server.

Finding the time to play is not as simple as you seem to think it is for everyone.

I never said or thought that. What i did state was the negative impact on the game servers. The duration of the HC event has a real impact on the player base as a whole on the normal servers. I also stated that 8 weeks is plenty of time even if you can only play a few hours a week. Literally less than 4 hours PER WEEK should be enough time to get the 1750 reward. If you mean for higher rewards ... well they require more time investment on a players part and that makes them more exclusive and desireable. Extending the time 50% cheapens the accomplishment and also means a longer period of lower regular server populations. It would also mean less HC events per year as well. The good news for those players who cant invest the time is that nothing in HC reward wise provides any real advantage in game.

Figured after awhile this game is not for people who want to spend time on other things like family or work. You need daily 30K to get to 20, or 210K a weekend. Terrible game design.

Its not terrible. Its Hardcore. Its an extreme challange.

You dont have to attempt Hardcore....the normal game is all still there and quite playable.

All you naysayers, I had the same typical input from pre- pubescent’s, in 1982 , when I was playing AD&D. You don’t like it, don’t play. I’ve warmed to the belief this forum , and past, was created to help those who are entertained, and hungry for knowledge. Petty, insecure, attacks shouldn’t be welcomed here. It just st shows a bad vibe for new players coming in.

I'm in my 50s and work full time - I've managed to get to 12 so far since HC went live but not sure I can make 20 in time. I'm also levelling a small guild for my friends - but its not really worth it for such a short season. In my case I know if my toon pegs it, its game over really for my season. 2 months is just too short a time for many. The cynical in me thinks its so short so they can flog xp pots to you :(.

Doesn't help with quest series lockouts as well, I forgot to do the lvl 7 quests in Greymoon so all of CO6 is now locked out for me, even if I'm the right level. Also having to run quests when xp capped so your flagged for the later higher lvl ones. Looking at you Tangleroot eats up time for no xp.

I understand the difficulty Hardcore causes to other servers. But that problem is exactly what makes Hardcore so attractive - A large population of invested and excited players who all want to enjoy the challenge (I actually liked the Hounds and Mimics!). Sadly I have never made it higher than lvl 17 on Hardcore and have run out of time twice. But I have to say after two months I definitely noticed a severe drop in population. So while it would be nice if it was longer two months probably fits the wider community better. (IMHO longer does not mean easier - disable daily dice and reinstate 5k - then a lot more folks would want 3 months!)

I have noticed that there is not much difference between reward gatherings, as most have their rewards in the first month. What the extra month does is allow for more casual players to participate slowly, but the argument against that is the live server guild community that hcl pulls away from. As someone who loves HCL I have submitted suggestions for it to be a resetting event on a permanent server. There is an entire group of ddo players who only play hcl. But the success of the redux seasons demonstrates that 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' is applicable.

hardcore should be a minimum of 3 months long so everyone can enjoy it but with that said im always pushing for a tougher hardcore experience theres regular servers for those that dont want to push a challenging environment
