Wildmagic Fey Feat

So I wanted to try out the Eladrin Chaosmancer as a warlock for the element immunity stripping ability.

I thought by not having the Wild Mage class, I would not have any wild magic chance. I checked the wiki and saw no mention of inherent wildmagic for the race itself so I ran with it. I know the wiki is not official but really it is the go-to resource for DDO info.

Why then do I see the Wildmagic Fey feat as a racial feat? Is this normal? I absolutely hate the idea of wild surges and since EB is a 'spell' I am getting them all the time. Am I just ****** this life?

Yes, it's normal. I have deliberately built my Warlock (Cold DC) and Wizard (Palemaster Cold) specifically with this feature in mind.

Since you went with Elemental removal effect anyway, you're not far from also putting Enhancements Points into removing the Very Bad and Bad effects from popping up. It removes the negatives entirely that way.

And what is that light icon effect over my head from time to time?

Yellow is just a little dot. The other colors are like little flames above my head. Seems random on what shows up.

When they appear, I don't see anything show up on the buff/debuff bar.

The colours (partly) indicate what effect you'll be getting when the next Wild Surge happens, very bad, bad are usually red or red in hue, white and yellow are generally neutral, blue is generally considered good effects if I remember right.

Thanks J1NG. I don't know if I have the points to put 2 more into the race tree. Don't have a lot of RP on this guy.

The bad part of this is that I don't like the concept of wild surges, good or bad.

Wait... does it mean I could make an Eladrin Chaosmancer, use a lesser heart to change my class to a wizard, and then play a wizard with wild magic like in BG2?

Yep - I did this with a warlock & can strip off the fire immunity via racial enhancement too, it's a lot of fun.

My Favourite class is Sorcerer and i am soo disappointed in the new Archetype and to make it even worse they have removed Eldritch knight from the enhancement tree. I love making Iconics as well, so i can test out different builds etc. But I don't think i will ever use this one as i really do not like the surge mechanic. The way i like to play is not relying on random effects from triggering. I build my toons so i have reliability in their abilities. Heck i really dont like relying on criticals as i cannot guarantee they will proc when i need them to.

Hopefully when they have given archetypes to all the classes, we will get additoinal ones and the next one for the sorcerer class i will like.

They do like to reuse effects and mechanics, once they've created new ones. Its entirely plausible that another class may get a "shared caster level" effect like Wild Mage has, and in that case you could multiclass an Iconic with Sorc without giving up your max caster levels - maybe like a Mystic Theurge FvS
