Will there be a Preview 2 for the Melee/Caster/Ranged Combat changes? :D

Every melee build is built around not going over 100% doublestrike right now, every melee is basically going to entirely rebuild aiming for as much doublestrike as possible.
Indirectly this is a big nerf to barbarian because barbarian trees have no doublestrike at all.

Yeah barbs need a lot of help.

Already being powerful and not getting a lot of new toys isnt a nerf. Its a sign of already being powerful and not needing a lot of new toys.

Did you need a +20 when Strength of Arms came out ?

Oh I forgot you were the one that tried to highjack a feedback thread on war soul/warpriest by saying they should just have 15% more attack speed than everyone else. Yeah this is fruitless.

You mean I offered ideas on how to improve poorly performing classes/builds?

The horror !

If a build is massively behind then attack speed is the easiest way to improve it. Unless it hits an animation cap.

Most of these changes are ok. If they don't walk back the ridiculous nerfs to caster AOE, when casters were already so far behind, it will kill the game for me.

This was supposed to be the pass where they corrected the problem with underperformed casters. They made it worse, much worse, for everything outside of raid boss fights. I cannot imagine it coming back around to their attention to do another balance pass on casters after this for years.

The devs can create whatever game they want to. I want to play DnD. In DnD, after levels in the mid teens, casters should be exceptionally powerful, well beyond even a dozen melee or archers combined.

If i wanted to play a game focused exclusively around fighting with weapons there are plenty of them. I don't.

Nah, it will likely be what it always is.

............... some of you might recognize that one.
After two decades in the US Navy,bi certainly do.

However I'm most fond of "The beatings will continue until moral improves.", as a form of management philosophy.

Problem with pre-nerf nuker AoE's is that it's really in the same context of a Martial builds solo Zerging R10.

U82 is effectively leveling the playing field, while strongly encouraging solo / zerg players to start grouping again.

Beyond all that, Archmage, Arcane Archer, Bard (all of them), Warlock (all of them) and Harper trees are in a desperate need of deep pass. Until this happens it's just a matter of time before Arcane is once again ultra subpar.

Much of that may be true, but encouraging grouping and essentially requiring it to play a certain class or style isnt good.

For better or worse, for many of us this has become a solo game half the time or more because there arent always people ready to group with, or if you are like me and you have many rl distractions then its rude to go afk for 5 minutes multiple times.

My druid is my toon for zerging solo and gear hunting when I cannot commit to grouping. With that gone, half my play time is essentially much harder and less fun. I'm a busy person, I don't have down time for things I don't think are fun. I am sure I'm not alone.

There is no real effort to bring new players into this game and the playerbase will continue to decline through attrition, so this problem will only get worse.

I sincerely hope they walk this AOE nerf back. It definitely reduces my excitement about this game. A lot.

Fundamentally we're at a place where...

for many easier=fun...

whilst for a different many harder=fun...

Plus, generally most folks don't like change, when no change is never really an option.

That's an impossible balance to achieve to keep everyone happy. So that's not what is happening or going to happen. I find it best to accept that reality.

Just need to suck it up or leave folks if it makes you truly that unhappy. I mean if you don't enjoy something, fgs stop doing it.

I'm going to see how it actually plays out in game before making any choice but reckon on balance it will be OK over the piece. YMMV though. I get that. No problem.

I just suggest you may actually try it out for a bit before deciding.

These forums are littered with predictions of doom and other agenda driven hyperbole which are absolutely not to be trusted and best ignored IMO as, unsurprisingly, things never quite developed as predicted in game.

Also lock in is incredibly unlikely to make up the differences between swf, twf and 2hf, we're really just getting SWF put further ahead
Lock-in might be OP if they leave Warhammer as a Hand and a Half like Bastard Sword via SWF+THF monk to take advantage of all the new buffs in a single build. "Real" THF builds are unlikely to threaten raid metas.

I have 4x raid chars (ranged, melee, tank/melee, tank/caster). The patch will be a huge buff to my melee (it's a monk) as-is; more with slight gear update. Tanks will be fine, slight gear fixing req'd only for caster. Ranged will need a full TR rebuild into a different style (I'm hoping simple thrower will become viable, but it's looking like Bow+Monk).

I have a suspicion that in general, nearly all ranged will need a full from scratch remake. Casters might squeak by with a full Fred'ing. End-game raid melee will need to remake (likely monk rather than DL/VKF). Tanks crunch popcorn and cheer the chaos.

Some kind of freebie to help rebuilding would be nice: Free Freds, LR+X hearts, etc., but while I hope they'll do that, I'm not hopeful of it. Fred is much more likely than LR+X hearts.

Lock-in isn't going to work with hand and a half weapons, only true 2 handed weapons.

I see it as a good time to take a break and go play something else. In this case it will be Valheim since 1.0 just dropped Wednesday. They should have been making these adjustments a couple at a time to gauge the impact instead of doing all these changes at once. It will likely be a bug riddled mess when it releases and I have no interest in being here for that. I'll likely return eventually.

Strength of Arms and massive buffs for melee is encouraging them to group more ?

Strange as last time I checked, DDO is an MMO (Masive Multiplayer Online). Which Solo play misses the whole point of.

The prior buffs need to be taken in the full context of the U82 changes. Which of we're being honest isn't as great for Martials as you'd like to imagine.
