Rebooting a cloud server should be scripted and a cronjob (automatic)

But the time it takes says its completely manual and even worse, there is heavy maintenance involved.
Manual without maintenance, this would be done within 15 minutes at most. Fully automatic, we are talking at most 2 or 3 minutes.

Now is not the time to start changing that system, its xmas tomorrow, and they also want to be with their family.
It is understandable that they do this today instead of tomorrow and on january 2nd instead of january 1st

Yeah you do not want this to be automatic with no human interaction involved. If there is an issue during the restart you need a human to be in attendance to make a decision on what to do, communicate to the team and take action. Whoever is working today to reboot the servers, thank you and happy holidays.

If it is not maintenance or patching, but just a reboot that needs to be done weekly, you want this in a cronjob and catch anomalies by a descent monitoring system.

It is the weekly downtime, switched from wednesday to today cause of the holidays, it is only a restart and should not be long.
Did they give a prior notice of that? The only warning I saw was online saying "Server shut down in 1 minute. Please log out".

I'm just glad I got my 30 min long quest out of the way.

It was in the Friday at 4 with Cordovan.

Just a reboot. Good timing too, it'll hopefully help with latency issues. It'd be awesome to see a jump in player population and LFMs galore for the holidays.

Why should he?

I am with him on this. No announcement ahead in the official and established way. Additionally, that is again a downtime during prime time for European players on an off-day for most people here.
Down times always impact players, there is no good time but it has to be done.

So when most people are going to be off of work and not spending the day with family, they run maintenance for most of the day? That's brilliant!
