As for the MMO, I'm 90% sure that anything WOTC puts out at this point is going to be so heavily riddled with microtransaction nonsense that it will be practically unplayable. They don't want to make an MMO because they love D&D and they love MMOs - they want to make an MMO because they want that Warcraft money.

This summary is so sadly true.

If DDO has some kind of perpetual D&D license, that is fantastic.

If DnD wants an new MMO, I'd say: STAY AWAY. MMO's are a time/money sink by design. Very much CONTRARY to dNd of old, arguably.
It certainly never required USD to play.
