Year Two of the VIP Loyalty Rewards Program Has Been Announced!

I was VIP prior to the Loyalty Program being introduced because I like the perks I get with the VIP base perks. I said last year that there was nothing in the Loyalty Program rewards that would make me WANT to be come VIP if I wasn't already. The same thing continues this year. It really is a copy/paste with a few adjustments and reskins of already existing assets within the game. At least the lightning trail and cloud mount are unique. This year, we get a reskinned armor and a mount that had some art taken off it. I would love to see SSG find a way to entice new people to choose to be VIP. Just my 2 cents.

Yep - even less if you sub for a year. $99 for a year and you get $65 (including the 500 vip loyalty points) in DDO points back. So really like $3 a month for all the baseline VIP perks plus all the loyalty stuff. Amazes me how people can complain so vehemently about this stuff.
You're missing the forest for the trees. It's not strictly about the $$. It's also the optics.

This program was supposed to be SSG's reward/thank you to their "loyal" VIP subscribers. It was SSG's response to months/years of VIP customers complaining that SSG had slowly but steadily eroded a lot of the value from the VIP program over the years. It was supposed to be how SSG made the VIP sub feel like an actual VIP thing again.

For some (maybe many?) subscribers, it fails in that regard, particularly when the second year rewards show a lack of any real thought and effort on SSG's part since they just copy/pasted rewards from the previous year and subbed in a reskinned cosmetic and mount. At least the first year's cosmetic and mount were unique.

To your point about money/value though, from a purely financial perspective, many players would be better off to do an initial 1-month VIP sub, then go to premium status and buy the $99 double points bonus pack once per year going forward. Those points could then be used to buy the content, expacs, character slots, etc. whenever they're on sale so that they are permanently attached to their account.

Thus, at the end of the day, it generally doesn't feel as if SSG sees/treats their VIP subscribers like actual VIP customers.

I’m not sure planning, design or logic have anything to do with it.

I’d prefer a system where every piece of gear is accessible, to everyone, always. When you “unlock” it, equip and go.

What happens if you sub for a year? Do you get all 12 rewards immediately, or you will be getting them each month?

You need to wait for each month. And be sure to pick up each month too. Otherwise, any monthly reward that isn't picked up, is treated as though it never progressed. So if you miss out on the fourth month, on the fifth month when you pick up, it'll be the fourth month VIP reward, and your next VIP reward will be the fifth month reward when the sixth month rolls in.

It's time gated (so 1 per month). And you have to manually claim them to advance things; if you don't log on for 2 months, you'd be 2 months behind where you could've been.

Lol, is this VIP program a reward or punishment?

Bonus tip for VIP subscription starting point, NEVER aim to start VIP on the 1st. If it's a weekend or national holiday on the first week of the month, don't subscribe until after it's all over.

The reason is because the monthly VIP rewards update EVERY 1st of the Month. The issue here is, if you Sub on the 1st for 12 months, you don't get your 13th Month reward before VIP is up. But if you subbed after the 1st of the Month, then you can pick up the 13th Month reward without needing to sub for longer or renew before you can pick up. This is especially true if you're not running along US times when the VIP change happens on the servers and when VIP resubs, etc. and it's night time when you could grab it still.

I've been VIP so long I've lost count.

Unpopular Opinion -- VIP is already great:

* 10% XP is huge. Maybe not for one life, or a couple, but it adds up cumulatively when all past lives are more than 1 billion XP. That's 100million XP just from VIP. I've leveled five uberpletionists. Coupled with 30% XP pots, 5% ship and 5% Master's Gift that's 2.5billion XP gained from bonuses.

* 500 DDO Points never stick around long. I'm constantly changing builds, which means buying Jeweler's Kits. I also buy raid bypass timers frequently.

* Skip a quest in a saga for full credit. Absolutely love this, and use it every life to skip an annoying-to-me or long quest in a saga (Crucible for GH, Smash and Burn for Cogs, Forbidden Temple in Dread, Vecna Denied in Morgrave, Times Long Past in MD, etc).

All this other stuff is gravy. Some of it I'll use like the Jeweler's Kits, and some stuff I'll completely ignore like the crafting XP bonus. I can see why the optics on the program aren't in SSG's favor. Things like a recolored mount make VIPs feel like second-class players rather than important. They would have had a much better response if they released a mount to VIPs first (like the Cloud mount which is cool), and then release a recolor of it later through another means.

I do think there's a disconnect between VIPs and SSG. They either don't understand what players want, or refuse to offer a service for it. Level 4 Veteran Status after TR is a prime example. Stop making me manage Daily Dice XP, squirreling them away on a mule to use at the start of a future life. Inventory management completely sucks in DDO, and this comes from someone with the max number of shared spaces and bank space available on several accounts. I haven't done Korthos in years, nor care to do it in the future unless I'm going for max favor on a character that won't be TRing.

That would be nice.

They could also make dice XP do a % of your current level's XP requirement instead of hard values; then there'd be less reason to hoard it. They'd be as good at level 1 to pop as level 29.

It needs more character slots, IMHO. Could do with replacing the "VIP durability" with another char slot.

Oh the VIP Veteran Level 4, would be awesome. Cut down on at least two slots needed for micro-managing xp stones.

Though I do think we are at the stage now, where they could do a recipe in the Stone of Change (get that brought back into play) to crunch xp stones. Purchase a blank vial from the free agent chap in the harbor, then go to the stone of change to pour in the contents of an xp stone. Cap it out at 30k per vial (BTA).

CHAOTIC EVIL
an invisible "mount" that causes the rider to look like they're flying akin to Superman (and banking when moving and turning) or hovering (when not with forward or back motion), I'd throw everything into getting that.
Reminds me of the floating red name in Through a mirror.

i want a lamp as a mount.

make me look like a genie
I can see that work, it'll basically be a meditation pose above an invisible mount except for a whisp of smoke that leads from the opening of the Lamp. And when moving the lamp vanishes; when you stop it appears again.

@Cordovan VIp crafting tokens also getting uncommon list is nice but it would be nice if they dropped at all.

I wrote a ticked and it was closed with "thanks for letting us know" message.
They resumed dropping for a bit after TR but again soon stopped.

as one of rare VIP that like those VIP crafting tokens I'm not happy their drop rate is borked (and from my old topic on it, apparently they drop for other players, just not me)
