Up on top of the pillar there is the check point.

Getting to the x/y coordinates on the map isn't enough for this explorer point - you have to do a bit of platforming to jump up into the whirlwind feature on top of the central pillar. A Jump potion or a Mount will both really help if your Jump score is low.
