The game's come a long way from its humble beginnings. And to think the game engine was not even original to DDO. Most of the engine is still largely based on Asheron's Call 2 which was written in circa 2003 and a lot of the packet handling and network stack is based on Asheron's Call 1 circa 1998/1999, a quarter of a century ago.

Yikes!
I had that same exact thought the other day, then realized the 40-y-o's have been playing HALF their lives.
i talk with someone one on discord who is 23. they started ddo when they were 6 so they have been playing 90% of their life!

Our guild Tyrs Paladium started in 2008. 17 years ago. Next year is our 18 year. We've had teenagers join (we used to be 18+ plus, but we made rare exceptions) that are now grown ass humans with full families and real responsibilities, we had folks in their 40s and 50s that are now senior citizens well into their retirement years, and we have had those that played in DDO's heyday that are no longer with us on Earth. Its emotional for me just typing this out.
