The Ultimate Inquisitive Past Life Getter

I've been playing long enough that I've got several Lesser Hearts with various +X factors in storage.

That said, it is also worth noting that, with the exception of the Tiefling Scoundrel (which ironically is the only Iconic I've played), all of the iconic classes correspond to very common one or two level dips;

https://ddowiki.com/page/Splash

In short, you can easily take just one or two levels of the class required at first level and then build the character as another class (or classes) and not have to worry about the 'forced' class coming in to play in determining the past life feat.

For my fellow inquisitive enjoyers. What sentience do you like best in your Epic Storm? Max imbue dice or max ranged power?

the imbue setup is 3 piece the long shadow, 2 reverb, 1 snowpeaks, 1 raid ranged power, and either 3 Snake Bite or 3 Electrocution

20 ranged power 7 imbue dice

or

the ranged power focused one is 1 raid ranged power, 3 crackshot, 5 dreadbringer, 1 rare ranged power filigree any set

55 ranged power and 30 fortification bypass

There is also the strong contender of the happy medium if you only need a little help to meet the 7/14/21 imbue dice threshhold at 20.

1 raid ranged power, 5 dreadbringer, 3 the long shadow, 1 snowpeaks equals

40 ranged power, 30 fort bypass, and 3 imbue dice

honorable mentions to 4 shattered device and 5 through the mists but I have not found them as useful while leveling compared to what is listed above.

Also depends which imbue you're running (SP or RP scaling), whether you use IPS or only AF/how many AF stacks you can keep active, if you're undead, etc.

I miss the daily gold rolls. Had a pretty good collection of hearts going lol.
I had a nice stock-pile of lesser hearts of various +s... burned thru them all doing the new arch-types....
.
I nearly rage-quit because I kept starting up past life runs & forgetting to take the 2nd type instead of the root.. get 1/2 way thru Korthos and suddenly *DOINK!* ... wait.. what the hell did I just do???

Each Iconic character absolutely requires a specific class at level 1. For example, a Purple Dragon Knight must take Fighter at level 1. Let us say I use your configuration to gain three Fighter past life feats. Later, I decide to obtain the Purple Dragon Knight past life feats. Now I have a dilemma. I must start with Fighter at level one on each of those go rounds but I must not take so many Fighter levels as to make it a Fighter for past life feat purposes. It becomes messy. As HoopleHead alludes, it is easier to run a Purple Dragon Knight as a proper Fighter.

For me, the past life feat system is confusing, full of land mines, and downright dangerous. When I made 9 Iconic go rounds, the entire process was awful from start to finish. I quit DDO at least 6 times it was so terrible. I do not want to put myself in a position where I badly bork my avatar yet again.

Your configuration offers lots of promise for me. I just need to make very careful choices when choosing which past life feats to obtain. That is not a fault of your design.

I completely understand your point and this is another reason for posting the build...

The Iconic build solves this issue specifically and you will not bork your toon (or at least you shouldn't' assuming you follow the build properly). I hope I have explained it in a such a way that is easy for you to understand and follow. If there is still something you are not sure on then please please ask me and I will try my utmost to help you.

This is what I currently have. I don't swap and change really so tried to come up with something that was fairly universal/standard. I still need to finish getting the rare versions yet but it works for now.

EDIT - Sorry it's so small, not sure why it has done that.

I am not making myself clear and that is fine. Typical, even. It has been another rough week and I have no desire to fight people over this. Good luck with your adventures. I will give this configuration a try after finishing off two more Epic resets and see how things go. Heaven knows, it could not go any worse than my usual borked character concoctions. 🙃

I am sorry that you are having a rough week and hope things get better for you. Good luck with your adventures also and again if you do need or want further help then please post here or send me a message privately, either option is perfectly fine :)

If you have a few iconic lives to go, and only select heroic lives left, I have a suggestion.

Post the iconic races you have, along with the classes, and I bet the community could help you build out those combinations, or at least give you some ideas.

I myself have played a lot of unorthodox builds but set to a specific play style. I've run well over 50 (if not 100) different ranged builds, including at one time, pure classes. I bet the community could suggest some ideas based on what you might still have to accomplish.

Just a suggestion.

I tend to be a bit lazy with my Epic Storm since I generally level on 1 Skull. Each of my characters has an Epic Storm with only a 3-slot gem so that I can put Celerity in there. I'm a *lazy* and I love having that always-on Haste.

Swiftness 30 augment does the same thing though at level 20?

For the most part, yes. Haste has an attack, dodge, and save bonus that the augment doesn't give. You also get the filigree bonuses. I use the Dodge, +Int, and +Reflex filigree to get the Haste.

I have run similar idea for class past lives. How ever I use a 6 rogue, 6 arti, 8 past life split. I started using this split before Dark Hunter came out. So now thanks to your post I am rethinking it.

Also I have collected mostly light crossbows to use as Gnomes get bonus with light and the Greater color Spray is fairly useful in low reapers.

I use a borderland Repeater (lvl 2) until I get Rat Catcher at level 8. Then at 15 I will sometimes switch to the night Shade shooter from Sharn.

I also like using human and the extra feat for the Dragonmark of passage for early access to Dimension Door

All very solid options indeed!

I like running Gnomes for Greater Colour Spray! It's crazy good. As a note you could switch to Diplomancer at level 5 which is gotten from the Anniversary Event and is quite good until level 8 for Ratty.

kinda sorta

if your arti based it goes to i hink +6

and ratcatcher is only +5

and again minor just making aware of
From the wiki:
These bolts begin with a +1 enhancement bonus to attack and damage and scale up as your caster level increases:

  • +2 at caster level 4
  • +3 at caster level 8
  • +4 at caster level 12
  • +5 at caster level 16
  • +6 at caster level 20 (maximum)
Do people still use ratcatcher in epics?
