Lets talk about FoM Raid

Last night i joined a pug raid to do FoM LH. The group was fine but there was a clear lack of raid knowledge about this raid which made it hard to complete.

So I am posting up some helpful knowledge about this raid so people can better understand whats going on:

1) Trash must be killed or incapacitated. Leaving the Vrocks and Butterball Turkeys alone is a sure way to fail the quest. People either need to be doing it full time or incapacitating them on sight. Ignoring them will end in trouble.

2) Jump when the Boss jumps.

3) When the Boss starts showing 0 as the first number of damage his buff has engaged and the only way to remove this buff (so you can do real damage to him again) is to bring him to one of the orbs and get him basically on it and break the orb. This also removes stacks of the fire damage you can build up. Dont break orbs unless you are doing one of these two things.

4) Fire circle around boss. This circle is a barrier. If you are inside it than any heals will have to come from inside the circle. So everybody not killing trash should be inside the big fire circle. Note that you will take damage when crossing it. Have some fire resist/absorbtion. See post farther down by Rabidfox on sweet spot for ranged tanking. Useful it would appear for high R's.

My guildies and i regularly run the raid on LH with no tank just a high hp dps build and have completed it in 5 min 18 seconds. Its a DPS race...so having one more DPS instead of a tank brings completion time down as well.

Hope this helps folks with this raid. Its an easy one once you know how it works.

Any other useful info is welcome. Knowledge is power. (items in blue are edits / updates / ideas from posters).

There's a sweet spot, the ring one section out from the fire ring, where you can attack the boss as ranged. You can also range tank the boss to prevent him from whipping melee during the fire circle phase. If the person with agro is outside the ring, the boss swaps from doing whips to attacking the party with lightning strikes (these can be evaded or spell absorbed).

When Lava Divers was pushing r10 FoM, Cammy figured out a tactic to range tank the boss during fire circle phases. The boss won't whip the melee if you tank him at ranged (person with agro outside the circle), instead he'll cast lightning strikes on the party over and over. As long as the party brings no-fail evasion or spell absorb for the lightning then this method can be used to help keep the melee safe during circle phases. There's also a sweet spot for ranged to stand just outside the fire circle where you won't get burned but can still hit the boss; so one can use a ranged threat tank for holding agro during the circle phases. Hopefully this gives people more options to figure out what methods work best for them in the raid.

Here's video footage from our testing of the method:
