I verified that the drivers are up to date and tried open AL and generic. Lowering the engine speed fixed it seems, and I don't notice any performance degradation - so I am happy for now. Thanks for you reply!

So I constantly get a whining / squealing noise when I play the game. At first I thought it was just an odd sound choice. Then I noticed that sometimes when I use my headset that this odd sound keeps coming out of my regular speakers. I do not have this issue with any other software/games...
