A Productive Lag Thread

Trying to be productiver here.

l believe the work towards taming lag to reasonable levels is one of the most important issues the game faces.

I was a able to duplicate a client crash when my USB headset is not selected for game sound or playback but was selected as the USB microphone. If i unplug the USB the client will crash 100%

I thought since the game sound seems to be where the community is doing the most finger pointing this migh be relevant.

You are correct, It most certainly does not!

To me, the idea that the two could be connected doesn't require a great stretch of the imagination

i made suggestions that should address the vast majority of zerging in a Suggestion thread concerning XP Potions that are activated on a Points basis instead of a Timer (no more timers on XP pots! << basically this), though the "we must run through this explorer zone and not-die, pray hard and just run" will keep happening until we can teleport past such zones to each quest like i also suggested in the "we are going to punish you for things that might possibly be beyond your control (not your fault)" thread in Announcements.

and as for the multi-TRs that find specific AoEs in specific places to be the most effective way to clear a quest, i can't think of an uncomplicated solution to that. In fact the only things that come to mind to address that behavior would make the problem significantly worse so all we can really do there is change their XP Potion mechanics and ask them to stop bleeping zerging so much... the rest is up to them.

I get a small lag spike each time I click on one of the echos that gives back 50sp in Reaper

that could be your local client not playing nice with your hardware. You are running DDO from a M.2 or SSD, right?

We zerged before dungeon alert and xp pots existed, it's not just about xp efficiency its also fun. Its called emergent gameplay and a lot of devs hate it because they think its their right to dictate how people play "their" game. So they try to make it difficult instead of thinking up new ways to design quests to sidestep the problem.

There are potential issues with USB. Considering the age of the underlying tech, it should be nice and stable, but Microsoft still has issues dealing with USB (especially on sleep/wake transitions) and it's compounded by cheap squirrelly USB chips that play a bit fast & loose with the protocols.

OTH, I also agree with the finger-pointing at DDO's sound. It seems like pretty much everyone has one issue or another with it. For instance, DDO regularly boots up without finding any sound devices for me. The devices are active and enumerated by the OS. So, whatever method DDO is using to find them it's not simply asking the OS for available sound devices.

Yeah, and that crash is only happening since the update. I used to unplug and replug my usb a couple times and often could get DDO to recognize it without having to restart client. Since then it is an immediate and predictable client crash.

If they don't want to add teleporters to the wilderness instances, they should create 2 wilderness instances.

The first spawns with no monsters, no explorers, no rares, just quest entrances. You can use your horse.

The second spawns monsters, rares, explorers and quest entrances. No horses allowed.

Who ever enters the instance first selects the instance.

Love this idea!
