Character Builder Lite OFFICIAL thread.

DDO Character Builder Lite

DDO Character Builder Lite is a very simple-to-use Character Builder, Adventure Compendium, and Cannith Crafting Planner. The interface and output are kept intentionally simple for ease of readability and posting.

The builder is lovingly maintained by a dedicated group who prefer the look and feel of it versus the more graphically intense DDO Character Planner that @Maetrims maintains.

How To Get The Tools

The simplest way to use the tools is to download the current release located here: ddo-lite-tools/releases and select the latest release.

Once you download that file, unblock it (right-click, properties and uncheck the "unblock" checkbox) and unzip it to any directory. If you save it to a protected directory such as C:\Windows or C:\Program Files, you will need to run it as Administrator. I suggest using C:\DDOCharLite.

Compatibility (from @Yhelm)

Written in pure VB6 native code, all programs should run on any version of Windows, no installation required.

Mac and Linux can run it using Wine or CrossOver. For CrossOver, install with the following:
  • Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Runtime Service Pack 6
Next, use "Run Command" and browse for the .exe file to run (CannithCrafting, CharacterBuilderLite, or Compendium), and press "Save Command as a Launcher". Do this for all three .exe files.

You can also clone the repository using Git:
You can compile the VB6 code or use the current data files in the data folder with your current executable.

Contributing to the code

You can collaborate in the project in a number of ways.
  1. Using Github
    1. Fork the project to your account
    2. Make any changes that are necessary
    3. Verify the changes locally
    4. Create a pull request back to this repository
    5. I will verify the changes work with the current program and any releases I have planned and I will merge the changes into master
  2. Using the DDO Forums
    1. The official thread is located here: OFFICIAL: Character Builder Lite in the build section
    2. @Yhelm also has a thread started here: DDO Character Builder Lite in the Player Guides section.
    3. I will try to periodically check the various threads for any posts and apply the changes when I can.

I just pointed my place holder to here, so you can feel free to remove that from your first post. I swear I looked for the right place to put this and missed the Builder section TWICE! Ug, sorry about that.

Thanks to everyone maintaining this, it's my favorite builder. For Divine Crusader in the T5 there's a couple point issues,

Bring Down Wrath - 1 AP
Law of the Divine - 1 AP

Both of those are currently costing 2 ap in the builder.

I keep crashing whenever I go to Overview on the new version...I can open a saved file and navigate to other tabs, but trying to create a new one or navigate to Overview on an existing one crashes out, runtime error 50003

There is likely something that changed between builds and that thing is saved in the old save file. I have had that happen to me in the past.

Have you tried making a fresh "from scratch" build? Does that one also crash on that screen? If not, then it's the save file, and the only way to fix it may be to recreate your build over again.

You can also try loading it, then saving it off right away as a new save. That sometimes fixes it (but not very often).

Fixed in the data file. You can download it from the link below and replace the one in your Builder folder, then restart the app.

Inspire Excellence is now called Inspiration Melody: Excellence and requires 12 bard instead of 15.

Fixed the level, but not the name (for now). All the Bardic Inspiration abilities are still named Inspire [THING] in this builder and all references everywhere to those abilities use the old names. I don't want to mess anything else up, so we will leave them as is for the time being. I am sure everyone can figure out what is what when using their builds to make the character in game.

Thanks as always for finding these errors and calling them out! Keep 'em coming as you find things.

Yeah, as I said, even just clicking "new build" takes me to the Overview screen to start it, and that crashes it out

Just tried DLing the latest release again and starting totally fresh...same error, boo :(

Thanks for the quick fix. Buuuut.... I just noticed that the builder version of inspire excellence *also* requires inspire heroics. Which you get at bard 15 :). I just edited my version to get rid of that line.

Doh! Sorry I missed that the first time. I deleted that requirement from the uploaded version as well.

Sorry, misread your original post and didn't see it was new builds as well. Hmm... not sure what would be doing that, especially since you had it running before on an older version (assuming I read that right). I will let @ChicagoChris chime in on a fix.

Was messing around with some builds today and noticed a few incorrect things in the following data files. I have uploaded fixes for them. You can find the links below...

Enhancements.txt
Destinies.txt
Spells.txt

Most of the fixes were in Warchanter, and a few places in Spells and Destines involving Imbue Dice.

Dark Hunter properly puts DD and OL in the class skills section on top but will NOT allow any points to be spent.

Yeah, that is on the bug list. I think the ability to use trapping is somehow hardwired to the classes, so it will need a programming fix at some point.

In the meantime, here is the trick I use. Set your class to either Rogue or Arti and spend all the points in those skills for all 20 levels. Then go back to the class and change back to Dark Hunter and the points will be there. Not the best solution, but at least it lets you move on until @ChicagoChris can work up a fix.

Here's another correction. Spellsinger T3 SLA only lists Shout. I think it should also show Cure Light Wounds, Mass as an option.

A related minor thing - Spellsinger T1 SLA appears as "Spell Like Ability I: " but the T2 SLA appears as "Spell-Like Ability: ". It would be helpful if they were consistent. My preference would be "Spell-Like Ability I: ", "Spell-Like Ability II: ", and "Spell-Like Ability III: ", but since someone else is doing the work, I'll take what I can get. :)

Thanks!

Thanks for catching those! Try as I might to find all of those inconsistencies I just can't catch them all. :(

I will send an update link shortly for you to update your files with a corrected version.

Macrotechnic Update!

I added the Macrotechnic to the Destiny.txt file. Everything should be correct, but as always please call out anything you see that is not working or entered wrong. There are some naming bugs on live, as well as a few effects that were different on live than in the release notes. In most cases where this happens I went with whatever was on the servers, not how it was written in the notes. However I also went with the names that were in the release notes because they will eventually patch the names on live to match. Woooh, it was a lot.

To update your builder, download the file below and replace the versions you currently have in the Data > Builder folder.

I also updated Enhancements with the requested corrections from @bookmarked (thanks again!) as well as some incorrect info in the Battle Engineer tree. Enjoy building those Battle Bots!

First, haven't been on the forums much in a while, nice to see this thread continuing to update. Well done.

Noticed that in the Thief Acrobat tree, tier 3; the app shows Improved Glancing Blows, when it should read Improved Second Strikes.
Easy to just go to Data>Builder>Enahancements, then scroll(find) Thief Acrobat and sub in the correct words.

There also seems to be a problem with Sacred Fist not being allowed to choose diety feats as one of their general feats. Pretty sure that they do not get diety feats, but are allowed to select a diety at level one and then may use a general feat for selecting a diety option like follower of, child of, etc. Not 100% on this due to limited knowledge of SF, but wanted to point it out so that someone else can check into it. Also, I think this may stem from the wiki not including this in a clear way and it getting overloooked by the crawler.

Cheers

Forgot to mention that the universal ehancement point selector seems to be locked at 1. There are 2 currently available and 3 if you count in the one that is available with the Vecna pre-purchase

Pretty sure it's just two +1 tomes available (Sharn & Vecna), or if there *is* a source for another point I'd love to find it!
