Searching for exceptional skills is really hard, yo!

It is hard to find on the ddowiki some things!

does not give everything, and if you click on the one and only category on that page you get

which does NOT list all the exceptional items and then there is this:

which gives other things, but not everything such as:

with its exceptional ASTUTE skills, WHICH if you click on that brings you to this page:

which is NOT what you would want.

So how do we make it so someone can search and see ALL the exceptional bonus items, including the alluring astute, ??? whatever the other ones are called? all in one easy to find one place that is intuitive to search and find etc and so on and so forth...???

And then there's THIS page:

Which doesn't help as much as you'd think. Arghh.
Oh, and typing the word exceptional into the wiki search bar doesn't bring up half of these!

I have added item lists to some of the categories.
One of the problems is also that the game has two redundant enchantments for the same thing (Astute Skills and Int Skills - Exceptional Bonus). It would have been a lot easier if the game was fixed first.

Leaving aside the issue of the search bar (the wiki's current search is bad, we know it's bad, but fixing it is turning out to be really awkward), there is a fundamental issue here, which is that Exceptional Intelligence, Intelligence Skills - Exceptional Bonus and Exceptional Astute Skills Bonus are different things, and we group them in different categories because, naturally, they all do something slightly different.

In order:
* "Exceptional Intelligence +1" provides a flat +1 to Intelligence (exceptional bonuses to stats aren't really in vogue these days, so higher exceptional bonuses for Intelligence aren't currently available.) This can increase the rank of Intelligence-based skills if it pushes a character's Intelligence up to an even number, but it won't necessarily do so.
* "Intelligence Skills - Exceptional Bonus" is an old enchantment which isn't in use in modern loot. It still shows up on a few items which haven't been updated in a long time - one Ioun stone, a trinket from Haunted Halls and that belt from Through a Glass Darkly - but these items are massively overshadowed in today's environment. (Maybe a few people still use the Manual of Stealthy Pilfering, but the others are honestly pretty rubbish now.)
* "Exceptional Astute Skills Bonus" is the new version of "Intelligence Skills - Exceptional Bonus". As a more modern enchantment, it gives much better values for the loot level of items it's used on, although weirdly it doesn't seem to affect Spellcraft now (at least if the in-game tooltip is accurate.)

If you're looking for ways to give a Rogue an Exceptional bonus that directly affects their trapping-related skills, you only really need one category: https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Exceptional_Astute_Skills_Bonus_items. https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Exceptional_Intelligence_%2B1_items might be helpful if you're trying to push your bonus from Intelligence up, although most of the items in that aren't great now either - I'd just farm a Globe of True Imperial Blood, personally.

Why don't we have a page that lists bonuses to trapping skills directly? Because that would need to be actively maintained and updated, and that gets complicated. I believe we started out with such a thing in 2006, and by 2010 it was already so out of date that the idea was abandoned entirely.
