In Impossible Demands, some of the hostages decided to stop close to the door.
They could not be interacted with at that point any more.
The priestess was also confused. When I was finishing her, she ran to the hostages as if to consume them, but probably discovered that they were just out of reach. She was running back and forth, turning invulnerable and then back to vulnerable several times. She couldn't eat em so eventually I killed her.
