Transparent attempt to psychologically manipulate the player in to being addicted to gambling. You're being trained like a dog to log in every day with a little treat as a reward for good behavior. Disgusting and shameful.
Predatory Pricing
Predatory decoy pricing in the monthly subscriptions. $15 dollar subscription is there to COERCE you in to spending more buying the "better value" 3 month pass at 9.99/month. It's there to get you to sink more of your money in to the game so that you'll feel OBLIGATED to play to get the value back on your money.
Obviously there's no reason players couldn't pay $9.99 on a month-to-month basis. The pricing scheme, like everything else in this game, is a scam, there to separate you from your money.
Endless Expansions
$200 dollar barrier to entry in the form of the NEVERENDING series of expansion packs. Even the developers realized how absurd this is when they decided to give half the expansions away for free (otherwise new players would have to buy $400 dollars worth of content just to keep up with their peers, instead of $200).
And oh yeah, these are all packaged with decoy products just like the subscriptions. You can spend $25 and get basically nothing, or you can be COERCED in to spending $75 so that you at least feel like you paid for SOMETHING. Same predatory model used in subscription pricing.
And guess what? In the end, all the pay-to-win stuff you bought in on doesn't get you ahead anyway. If everyone else is buying the same power-ups as you, the only one that really wins in the end is the developers. The game used to be about providing value to the users at a competitive price. Now it's about scamming the customer as hard as possible. RIP DDO.
